    Rosie the Shark

    Imagine with me for a moment. You go into an abandoned amusement center, urban adventuring, and you see a tank full of greenish fluid. Your flashlight reflects off the glass as the sun sets through broken windows on the other side of the room, and that's when you see it-the silhouette of a giant shark, suspended in time, waiting for her adoring public to return. Rosie is seen, and she's both terrifying and vulnerable. This was a moment that was the catalyst for Rosie's return. Rescued by geologist extraordinaire, palientologist, world traveler, owner of Crystal World, board and/or consult for multiple museums, and all around amazing and down to earth dude (basically everything any kid wanted to be when they grew up) Tom Kapitany, she was given a new lease on life.  She is slowly being preserved for future onlookers, and she is a mirror to the human spirit. Please, listen to her story. Also, side note, we are still planning to release a bunch of videos eventually, and it will make this episode even better. Tom gave us a tour of Crystal World, and as much as we try to describe, it's much better seen than heard. However, the conversation was just too good to get rid of, so apologies for some of the parts that need to be seen.     Social Cognition and Inequity Aversion and Other Words Cory Doesn't Understand with Dr Jim McGetrick

    Good morrow, Idiot Army. This week we have another excellent guest, a friend of recent guest Dr Raffaela Lesch, and super genious from The University of Vienna (yes, Cory and Kent were disappointed to find out this is not where tiny hot dogs come from) Dr Jim McGetrick comes on to discuss social cognition and inequity aversion with dogs, and other animals. They discuss reactions in animals seeing other companions who get more, or less, of treats and how they react, how running tests is as much making sure your own bias is removed as making sure the dogs in the tests aren't smarter than you, and coop with humans, among other topics. Also, it wouldn't be a VM4IBI episode if we didn't have any issues- No, the Idiot Associate Producer Beth did not quit half way through, but her microphone did. You'll notice her sudden silence...she was with us in spirit...or something.     Happy Tuesday, and welcome back. All three Idiots are present to talk about Prions (pronounced Pry-Ons, unless you don't like the taste of Freedom, then it's Pree-Ons) and how folded proteins can affect the brain. Other notable moments is Cory doing a (sounds like a capella but the mic did not pick up his guitar over his voice...you'd think the Idiot Musician would know how mics work, but apparently not) parody of "Mad World" and The Doctor Idiot having the bejeezus scared out of him by his mom.

    Horsin' Around With Dr. Lord (not THAT Lord, though)

    Are you ready for some really cringe jokes that make Dr. Kent want to play in traffic, followed by some really great and inciteful discussions about horse medicine? Then we've got an episode for you. This week, The Idiots talk with Dr. Natalie Lord (who does not turn water into wine, much to our disappointment) about the fun, the frustration, the pride, and the problems with being a horse vet. Most is done ambulatory, so travelling on site, and sometimes the trips can take up nearly the entire day. However, it is rewarding, always.

    This Episode Is Very Boarding

    Welcome welcome! This has been a crazy season. The first half was as long as our longest season. We took a break, and now we are back again. Man, it always feels good to take some time off. While it may not seem like it, the three Idiots really put in a lot of effort, and it takes a lot of effort to sound this relaxed, honestly. We're proud of what we do, but sometimes the batteries need to recharge.  Anyway, that aside, we are joined by Kristi, franchisee/owner of Hounds Town Fayetteville. We talk about the care that goes into making sure your pooch has the best time at doggy daycare and boarding, the behind the scenes so people can get a grasp just how hard and time consuming this job can be, the joys of the grind, and somehow, we all stay on topic because Kristi is as much a music and record nerd as Cory.  If you are in the Fayetteville area, Vet Med For Idiots By Idiots highly recommends Hounds Town Fayetteville (I'm sure all the locations are top tier, they have a great vetting and training process, but Kristi is a friend and we trust her 100%, since she is a peak human).     The Reign of Reindeer

    Parents, bring the kids around for this one! They'll be excited to hear it, and for a VM4IBI first, there is no cursing at all!   Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever you believe and celebrate. For a midseason finale, The Idiots (all three, including Merry Bethmas, the Associate Producer Idiot) talk vet med on reindeer. At least, the first half is, until Cory gets a text from a guy calling himself "Santa" and asks us to talk about his 9 reindeer. Beth, who is the Christmas Reindeer expert, teaches us even more about the reindeer that help Santa deliver millions of presents around the world each Christmas Eve night! Don't want to miss this, lest you might end up on the naughty list, like Dr Kent and Cory! Also, apologies for the sound quality for Kent's parts-he left his microphone at home, and is somehow convinced his AirPods work just as well.    We will be taking a short break for holiday festivities, but will be back early 2026. This season has been groundbreaking for us in so many way, including the fact that we have already done more episodes that we typically do in a full season, have had some collossal guests, and have expanded the brand to 3 total Idiots. Also, you may hear that we have added in some advertisements. We have partnered with Libsyn and with Audacy for advertisements. We don't necessariy endorse anything that has been put with our episodes for ads, but frankly, we simply sold out. That said, we have purposely only added ads to the front and back of every episode, at least for now, as we have always aimed for our show to feel like a sit down chat, not an overly produced slick show.
