    68. Healing Through Art and Tattoos with Yvette Castro

Please share your thoughts about how you felt about the episode and/or podcast! In this episode of Herstory is Medicine, I sit down with Yvette, tattoo artist, mother, and founder of Honey & Myrrh Collective, for a personal conversation about motherhood, postpartum depression, religious trauma, spirituality, art, tattoos, and healing. Yvette shares about growing up in a church environment that affected her relationship with God and spirituality. We talk about the process of questioning what she had been taught and finding her own way back to a spiritual relationship that felt authentic to her. Yvette also opens up about experiencing a very dark postpartum depression after becoming a mother and how that season challenged her identity, mental health, and relationship with herself. We explore how art and tattooing became part of Yvette's healing journey and how that personal experience eventually led her to create Honey & Myrrh Collective, an intentional private tattoo studio where the experience is about more than the tattoo itself. This conversation is ultimately about reclamation—reconnecting with yourself, questioning what no longer feels true, and allowing your story to evolve as you heal. 67. How My Son’s Cancer Journey Led Me Back to Ancestral Healing - with Ryanne Nieto

Please share your thoughts about how you felt about the episode and/or podcast! What happens when your child’s healing journey becomes the catalyst for your own? In the very first episode of Herstory Is Medicine, I’m joined by Ryanne—a storyteller, activist, and practitioner of traditional Curanderismo and ancestral plant and amphibian medicines. In 2019, Ryanne’s 10-year-old son was diagnosed with stage four cancer. As she walked alongside him through his cancer journey, she experienced firsthand the life-saving role of Western medicine while also beginning to question what other layers of healing were needed for her son, herself, and her family. What began as a mother doing everything she could for her child became a catalyst for Ryanne’s own healing journey. It led her back to ancestral knowledge, traditional healing practices, plants, and teachings that were nearly lost within her family. Today, her work is rooted in Mexica and Andean-Amazonian teachings and centers on collective healing, decolonization, sovereignty, and the remembrance of ancestral traditions. In this deeply personal conversation, we talk about motherhood, her son’s cancer journey, the relationship between Western and traditional medicine, reconnecting with ancestral wisdom, and what it means to carry these traditions forward with humility, respect, and responsibility. Ryanne’s story doesn’t end with her own healing. What she began reclaiming for herself eventually became something she could bring into her family and community. This conversation is about more than healing. It’s about remembering. Because sometimes the story that changes your life becomes the medicine you carry forward. 66. Your Story Is Allowed to Change

Please share your thoughts about how you felt about the episode and/or podcast! In this honest and vulnerable episode, I’m sharing a personal reflection on what it means to outgrow part of our lives—and the quiet, persistent intuition that tells us when it’s time for something to change. I’m also sharing why I made the decision to rename this podcast (tune in to find out what it is) and what this new chapter means to me. For me, this change isn’t about starting over. It’s about honoring the journey I’ve already walked, trusting the woman I’m becoming, and allowing the podcast to evolve alongside me. I talk about intuition, alignment, trusting your soul’s path, letting go of identities and stories that no longer fit, and finding the courage to make changes even when you don’t have all the answers. It's about honoring the wisdom that comes from lived experience, trusting the subtle nudges within us, and giving ourselves permission to evolve. Because our stories aren’t meant to stay the same. They grow. They change. They teach us. And sometimes, the very story we’ve lived becomes the medicine we’re here to share.🪶 Timestamps 00:00 - Introducing the episode and the coming changes 01:02 - Starting over and setting the tone for a vulnerable update 04:42 - Why recent life changes have affected the podcast rhythm 06:53 - Considering whether to pause, slow down, or continue 08:25 - The first signs that a name change was coming 09:19 - Looking back at how the original title was born 11:31 - Realizing the old name no longer fit 13:03 - Meditation, ceremony, and asking for guidance 14:56 - Recognizing when something feels off but familiar 15:55 - Permission to outgrow what no longer aligns 17:14 - Why stories are medicine for both speaker and listener 18:47 - Story as lineage, inheritance, and healing memory 20:08 - The medicine of being witnessed and speaking truth 21:15 - What stays the same beyond the name change 22:32 - Reflection on what in your own life may need to be released 23:33 - Two years, 66 episodes, and the meaning of moving forward 24:31 - What listeners can do next and how to stay connected If you are feeling called to work together and would like more information about my services through Nourish Inc, I invite you to apply to work with me using the link below. 65. Healing in Relationship with Plants: My Journey One Year Later

Please share your thoughts about how you felt about the episode and/or podcast! A year ago, I shared the beginning of my journey into the world of plants and herbalism. At the time, I was learning how to make herbal teas, infused oils, natural skincare, and simple remedies for me and my family. I knew plants held incredible healing properties, but I had no idea how deeply they would transform me from the inside out. In this solo episode, I'm reflecting on where that journey has taken me over the past year. After completing one plant healing program and now continuing my studies in spiritual self-healing, medicine making, and building relationships with plants, my perspective continues to shift. This path has become about so much more than herbs. It's taught me how to slow down, trust my intuition, cultivate presence, and reconnect with nature as a source of wisdom, healing, and guidance. Whether you're curious about herbalism, interested in holistic healing, or simply longing to feel more grounded and connected, I hope this conversation encourages you to see nature in a new way and reminds you that healing often begins with simply paying attention. In this episode, we discuss: Reflecting on where my plant journey began one year agoThe difference between using herbs and building relationships with plantsWhat I've learned through plant meditation and spiritual connectionHow medicine making has become a mindful and intentional practiceThe emotional and spiritual ways plants have supported my healingLessons nature continues to teach me about trust, patience, and presenceSimple ways to begin reconnecting with the natural worldReady to Nourish Yourself?
