Shawn Chidiac: The Man Behind “My Parents Are Divorced” | Comedy, Success & the Fear of Comfort

Shawn Chidiac is a UAE-based comedian, content creator, and entrepreneur best known online as My Parents Are Divorced. But behind the accents, viral characters, and sold-out shows is a side of Shawn most people rarely get to see. In this episode of Luca’s Insight Track, Shawn joins Luca Allam for a conversation that goes far beyond comedy, from growing up with divorced parents, experiencing bullying and overcoming social fears to starting stand-up in small Dubai venues and eventually performing at Dubai Opera. Shawn opens up about why, despite his success, he still isn’t proud of himself, why he believes “comfort is the death,” and why comparing yourself to others can become destructive. He also shares how his family shaped his outlook on life, business, relationships, and the person he has become. They also explore the more controversial side of comedy: accents, stereotypes, cultural boundaries, political commentary, freedom of expression, and where comedians should draw the line. For Shawn, humor can be much more than entertainment, it can become a vehicle for communicating deeper truths. Beyond comedy, Shawn discusses entrepreneurship, talent management, working with family, building the right team, and turning creativity into a sustainable business. And when asked to leave one final insight, Shawn keeps it simple: try. Because failure isn’t trying something and watching it go wrong, failure is deciding to stop trying. A funny, honest, and unexpectedly deep conversation about comedy, identity, ambition, fear, success, family, business, and what happens when the person making everyone else laugh gets serious.

Off Track: Who Are You Trying to Impress?

Welcome back to Off Track, the space where I speak unscripted, unfiltered, and share an insight or two. There are no guests, no scripts. This week, I reflect on my conversation with Charbel Khoury and one question that really stayed with me: “If nobody could see what you're buying, would you still buy it?”Who Are You Trying to Impress? For much of my life, I was trying to impress people. My parents, my friends, even girls. Whether it was climbing the corporate ladder, becoming a CEO, buying a new car or showing off something I'd achieved, I was constantly looking for validation from others. But when I left my CEO role, something interesting happened. I went from wanting everyone to see my success to almost wanting to hide. Without the title, I suddenly felt I had less to show off. It made me realise just how much of my self-worth I'd placed in other people's hands. And here's what I've come to understand. People don't really care that much about what you have. They might admire your success for a few moments, but more often than not, it becomes a reflection of what they feel they don't have themselves. The problem with constantly seeking external validation is that it's never enough. You can't keep looking outside yourself to fill what's missing inside. So here's my question to you: How much of what you're doing in your life is genuinely for yourself, and how much is simply to impress somebody else?Honest, reflective and straight off my chest and off the cuff. Welcome to Off Track.

Off Track: Talk Human to Me

Welcome back to Off Track, the space where I speak unscripted, unfiltered and straight from the heart. No guests, no scripts, just honest reflections shaped by real conversations and real life.   This week's episode is a little more personal. After launching my first book, Talk Human, I found myself thinking about the one idea that sits at the heart of it:   Connection Starts With You   For most of my life, I thought connection came from other people. Being liked. Being validated. Feeling supported and loved.   I thought reaching the top of my career and becoming a CEO would somehow give me that feeling. Instead, I realised I had become disconnected from myself.   In this episode, I share what happened when I started trying to understand who I was without the title, why reconnecting with myself changed the way I communicate, and why that journey ultimately became Talk Human.   Because great communication isn't just about storytelling, presentations or saying the right words. It's about knowing who you are and giving yourself permission to show up as that person.   And in a world where AI is making our emails, presentations and posts sound increasingly the same, that individuality matters more than ever. The more technology advances, the more our humanity becomes our differentiator. AI might just force us to become more human than ever before.   Honest, reflective and straight from the heart. Off my chest and off the cuff.   Welcome to Off Track.
