Chasing Chevy Chase Podcast

Chasing Chevy is much tighter as a title. But Chevy Chase is probably yields more search results. Gotta get them clicks. As someone who has sat through most of Chevy’s filmography, they earn most of their stars simply watching the movies. Chevy was only in a handful or so of good films. Most of the time, neither he nor the material are really up to snuff. The hosts recognize that. However, they tend to repeat their points quite a bit. That time would be better spent providing more background info on the production of the film. They get better at this towards the end of Chevy’s filmography like reading the shooting script. In fact, there’s a whole podcast about Fletch, Fletchcast with Laker Jim, yet it was only mentioned in passing in one episode? Do some more research, fellas. HDTGM provides some background info and encourages listeners to really engage with their show and the movies they watch. I understand Chevy and his body of work are kind of a shallow pool. For example, Chevy had a biography come out that was very short even compared other Hollywood bios. Chevy’s best work, which was written to suit him, was in Community. #andamovie If you need a guest to discuss Memoirs of an Invisible Man, I have the blu-ray! It’s not the best film but Chevy actually tries. Overall, it’s a good podcast with room for improvement.

The Chasing Chevy podcast is a blast. I’m loving this deep dive into Chevy Chase’s entire filmography — the good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s fun to hear three different perspectives on these films, especially when I compare them to the Chevy movies I grew up with and discover new takes on the ones I missed. The show is hosted by the REAL Three Amigos: Mike White, Mark Begley, and Chris Stachiw, known from The Projection Booth, Wake Up Heavy, and The Kulturecast. They bring just the right mix of film knowledge and Gen-X/Millennial sensibility. Whether they love or hate the film, I’m laughing along with them and happily strapped in for this wild ride.

You can’t go wrong with these hosts, even when (as they readily admit) some of the movies discussed aren’t exactly classics. It’s a fun exercise, much like “George Kennedy is My Co-Pilot” where you just take on an actor’s entire filmography. Chris, Mark and Mike are thoughtful and prepared, and they manage to create an interesting conversation whether it’s a classic like Fletch or a dud like European Vacation.

Listening to this podcast is like sitting in traffic with three dorks a.k.a “whine-cast trifecta” over which gas station has the best coffee — tedious, directionless, and somehow still boring and annoying. Listening to three nerds that still probably live at home with their mother go on and on about Chevy Chase movies. This podcast needs to be canceled like Chevy Chase’s talk show back in the day .
