    What is Samhain | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show Halloween gets all the attention, but Samhain is where the season turns into something deeper. We’re talking about the real meaning behind Samhain (often said like “Sowin”), why it sits on the witch’s Wheel of the Year as a cross quarter day, and how that timing connects to what we can feel in the natural world as autumn darkens and the year shifts toward winter. If you’ve ever heard “the veil is thinning” and wondered what that even means, we make it plain and practical. Jenny C. Bell shares how witches think about the invisible world and why Samhain isn’t the only time spiritual contact can feel stronger. We connect the dots between Samhain, Halloween, Day of the Dead, and All Souls Day, and we talk honestly about why this season brings up ancestor veneration, grief, curiosity, and a different relationship with death. Instead of treating death like a taboo, we explore it as a cycle and a teacher, including the small deaths that change us: leaving a job, dropping a harmful habit, outgrowing an identity, or paying the “price” of wisdom by letting ignorance fall away. We also get hands on with ideas you can actually use. Learn how to turn classic Halloween traditions into meaningful Samhain rituals with intention, from carving jack o’ lanterns with symbols, sigils, or runes to creating a simple silent supper for ancestors, guides, deities, or even personal heroes. If you want spirituality that fits real life, this conversation gives you a bridge between spooky season fun and grounded witchcraft practice. Subscribe so you don’t miss the rest of our seasonal conversations, share this with a friend who loves Halloween, and leave a review if this helped you rethink Samhain. You're Not Flawed - You're Tarot Magic! | V. Readus author of Tarot for the Flawed and Fearless

Text or VM the Show A lot of us learned “belonging” by getting smaller. So when we finally try to be honest, creative, or spiritual in our own way, it can feel risky, even when it’s the truest thing about us. We sit down with V Readus, author of Tarot for the Flawed and Fearless and the creator behind Red Light Readings, to talk about what it really takes to stop shrinking and start showing up with embodied confidence.    We trace the origin story of people pleasing through a memorable eighth grade moment: V brings a Ouija board to Catholic school field day, and the reaction teaches her a hard lesson about social norms. From there, we connect the dots to adulthood, work, identity, and the quiet ways we dilute our truth. V also shares how her background as a speech and language pathologist shaped the way she reads tarot today: practical language, clear steps, and a focus on helping people communicate what they want and need without giving their power away.    Then we get hands-on with tarot for self-development. We talk about the Major Arcana as archetypes, why tarot can be predictive but works best as a mirror, and we even pull The Fool card to explore new beginnings, leap-of-faith energy, and bold authenticity. V breaks down simple embodiment practices, astrology links like Uranus and individuality, plus a three-card spread to help you reclaim your truth. She also explains her Confidence Code reading using numerology and tarot, and invites listeners into the Academy of Audacity virtual book club for community and accountability.    If you’re ready to choose yourself with more courage and less apology, press play, then subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review so more people can find it. Bio:  V. Readus is an author, tarot reader, confidence catalyst, and energy alchemist who helps people stop shrinking and start showing up as the fullest version of themselves. Through tarot, archetypal wisdom, astrology, and practical personal development tools, she guides clients toward deeper self-trust, authentic expression, and embodied confidence.  Known as "The Tarot BFF," V. combines intuition, humor, compassion, and honest conversation to help people transform self-doubt into self-belief. She is the author of Tarot for the Flawed & Fearless: 22 Keys to Master Self-Confidence and creator of transformational experiences designed to help people choose themselves unapologetically and live with greater courage, clarity, and confidence. @redlightreadings - IG @redlightreadings - FB  www.redlightreadings.com #TarotForSelfDevelopment #PeoplePleasing #AuthenticSelf Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Shadow Work | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show The shadow is not a monster under the bed. Most of the time, it is the part of us that got shamed, silenced, or trained to disappear and it is still trying to protect us the only way it knows how. We start with a clear, grounded definition of shadow work through Carl Jung, then bring it into real witchcraft and shamanism practice. We talk about how the shadow forms through social pressure and early conditioning, why certain emotions like anger get labeled “bad,” and how suppression can show up as triggers, anxiety, or even body signals like inflammation. Along the way, we challenge the idea that shadow automatically means evil and offer a more honest view: the shadow is organic, human, and often holding the very gifts we miss most. From the shamanic side, Granddaughter Crow shares a nature-based approach to shadow integration, including journey work and working with animal allies that many traditions call “taboo,” like raven, snake, owl, and wolf. From the witchcraft side, Jenny C. Bell explores ancestral shadow, the witch wound, and why deity work with underworld figures like Hecate can be a powerful way to move through the inner labyrinth with a lantern instead of panic. We also emphasize safety: shadow work is not one-and-done, and it goes better with a book, a trusted community, a therapist, or a spiritual guide so you have a path back home to yourself. If you’ve been feeling stuck, reactive, or secretly afraid of your own intensity, this conversation offers a steady place to start. Neuroscience and Magic? | Dr. Siddharth Ramakrishnan author of The Neuroscience of Magic

Text or VM the Show What really happens in your brain when you practice magic, pull tarot cards, or step into a ritual with a clear intention? We talk with neuroscientist, educator, and author Siddharth Ramakrishnan about the surprising places where modern neuroscience and ancient mystical practice stop arguing and start explaining each other. If you’ve ever worried that loving science means you can’t be spiritual (or that understanding the brain will “ruin” the mystery), this conversation flips that assumption on its head. We dig into intuition as fast subconscious pattern recognition, why your body reacts before you can name the emotion, and how that “gut check” can be trained through reflection instead of blind trust. Siddharth breaks down how attention, belief, and meaning-making work in the brain, including why we can’t fully separate mind and body when we’re trying to understand anxiety, insight, or felt sense. We also explore the cultural history of “ways of knowing” beyond pure logic, and why treating science as the only path can flatten what it means to be human. Then we get practical: what rituals do to attention, why repeated movements and objects add value in the brain, and how flow states can open the door to real insight. We talk sigils as embodied symbol-making, simple tarot routines that build presence, and the balance between a dull mind and a turbulent mind in a world that keeps pushing speed and noise. If you’re curious about neuroscience of magic, intuition, ritual psychology, tarot and the brain, or the science of belief, this one is for you. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’d debate you about magic, and leave a review so more people can find the show. Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Crafty Witchy Cord Magic | Loren Morris Author of Cord Magic

Text or VM the Show Braiding your hair with a whispered intention sounds simple, but it opens a door into a whole world of fiber magic. We’re joined by Loren Morris, a traditional witch, owner of Primitive Witchery in Kingsport, Tennessee, and author of The Crafty Witch’s Guide to Cord Magic. Loren talks about cord magic as a living, hands-on practice: not just tying knots, but building a spell you can see, touch, and return to.    We get into what makes a spell cord feel different from a candle spell that disappears overnight. Loren explains how layering components like charms, beads, herbs, stones, printed images, and sigils turns the crafting into the ritual itself, helping you stay focused and intentional through every step. We also talk about how long cords can take to make, why that time matters, and why cord magic can be especially supportive if you want a more meditative approach or you struggle to stay locked in on one method.    From there, we go practical: how we “feed” and maintain cords over time by repeating the original activation steps, tracking moon signs, moon phases, and planetary hours. We explore Samhain themed ideas for fall cords, then weave in rune magic, including beginner guidance for working with Elder Futhark runes before attempting bindrunes. Finally, we pivot into simmer pot magic, including cozy seasonal ingredient ideas and how to strain the leftover water into a home spray, floor wash, or bath addition.   Subscribe, share this with a crafty witch friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. What kind of cord would you make first? ________ Bio: Loren Morris is a traditional witch with over twenty years of practice rooted in Norse and Celtic traditions. She is the owner of Primitive Witchery, based in Kingsport, Tennessee, and the author of The Crafty Witch’s Guide to Cord Magic (Weiser Books, July 2026). Her spell bottles have appeared in Hocus Pocus 2, and she holds a Nornic Priestess endorsement from renowned runic scholar Freya Aswynn. Are Tattoos Magickal? | Jake Morningstar author of Tattoo Magick

Text or VM the Show Tattoos can be art, memory, armor, prayer, or pure fun, but what happens when you treat ink as a living spiritual tool. I’m joined by Jake Morningstar, founder and high priest of Diamond Eye Coven, to unpack tattoo magick as real-world spellwork you can do with healed tattoos, fresh tattoos, and even temporary body markings. Jake brings a rare mix of experience: over 20 years of practice in the Craft plus formal training in neuroscience and marketing, which makes this a grounded, curious conversation rather than mystical posturing. We talk about how symbols speak to the subconscious, why a tattoo can become an energetic anchor, and how meaning can deepen long after the session ends. Jake shares the story of his triangle tattoos and the moment he realized his tattoo was showing up in his magic, leading to the bigger question: are tattoos spells. From there we widen the lens into what “magic” is, why some witches spell it “magick” with a K, and how science and spirituality can coexist as two valid ways of describing the same human experience. Then we bring it back to practice. We get into simple methods to “activate” healed ink through touch, tracing, chanting, and sympathetic magic, plus considerations around pain, ritual, and working respectfully with artists and timing. If you have tattoos, want your first one, or just want a smarter way to think about symbolism and perception, you’ll leave with tools you can actually try. Do You Work With Angels | A Witch & A Shaman

Text or VM the Show We start with a community question from Our Coven Community: do you work with angels? From there, we get honest about what “angel work” means when you come from a strict Christian or Catholic background, and why opting out can be just as healthy and powerful as opting in. We talk about the real crossover between witchcraft, shamanism, ceremonial magic, and folk traditions. Angels show up in structured practices with archangels and protective rituals, and they also show up in everyday spiritual life through prayer, candles, and signs that feel personal. We also dig into the messy part: labels. Is it an angel, an elemental, a spirit guide, a being of light? Sometimes the name matters less than the energy, the consent, and how supported you actually feel. Jenny C. Bell shares her journey from outright skepticism to direct angel connection, including studying A Course in Miracles and experiencing a powerful Archangel Michael attunement that felt physical and undeniable. Granddaughter Crow adds a shamanistic perspective on beings of light, plus a childhood story of protection that still reads like a guardian angel encounter. If you have ever wondered whether angels belong in a modern spiritual practice, or how to navigate that question with religious trauma in the mix, this conversation gives you a clear, compassionate way in. The Gender Doula | Eli Lawliet, Ph.D. author of Gender Rituals

Text or VM the Show We’re sitting down with Eli Lawliet, PhD, the creator of the gender doula, to offer a more grounded, human way into gender exploration: start with desire, values, and what actually feels good in your body, then build support around that.    We talk about why the gender doula model matters for anyone navigating gender transition, questioning, or identity change, and why this kind of full spectrum care can also help families, teachers, and professionals who want to show up with more skill and less fear. Eli also shares a personal path from evangelical Christianity through atheism and into a spirituality rooted in lived experience, with a clear-eyed look at cultural appropriation, colonialism, and what it means to find something that is truly yours.    From there, we get practical. We unpack ritual as something simple and usable: an action done for a specific purpose. That opens the door to energetic hygiene (cleansing, grounding, boundaries and protection) you can use before a difficult family gathering, after a day of bad headlines, or any time you’re feeling porous and depleted. We also explore tarot as a consent-based tool for guidance and deeper conversation, and we spend time on surgery rituals that make room for the real emotional landscape: doubt, relief, grief, numbness, joy, and post-surgical depression, without forcing a perfect narrative.    If you want concrete tools for authenticity, transition support, and ritual practice that meets you where you are, hit play. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. Bio: Eli Lawliet, Ph.D. , (he/him) is the dreamer and weaver of The Gender Doula; a source of full-spectrum support for those who are transitioning, questioning, or exploring their gender, as well as for families, loved ones, and professionals who wish to better support gender expansive folks.
