Happiness Is Here and Now

Howen Sangha

We, Howen Sangha, are a group of families acting as a Sangha, sharing lessons and experiences regarding happiness as taught by Thay, the Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh — “Without suffering, there is no happiness; and without happiness, there is no suffering. It is like the lotus and the mud: without mud, you cannot grow a lotus. The lotus exists for a time, only to eventually become mud again. Thus, when looking at the lotus, you see the mud, and when looking at the mud, you see the future lotus. Suffering is the same.”

Buddha’s Way 08. Mindfulness Is Energy That Can Bring the Right View and Concentration by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh

“The value of our life depends on the value of our thinking, of our speech and our our action. And in Buddhism this this is called a triple action. Triple action because thinking is the first kind of action, because thinking can affect you. If you think wrongly, the world will be destroyed, the world will suffer and you will suffer. So that is why you have to practice right thinking. And when you produce a thought in the line of right thinking, a thought that has no discrimination, a thought that goes along with non-discrimination, that goes along with intervene understanding, forgiveness, compassion, that thought will have effect right away on yourself, on your health and on your mind and on the world. And this is true.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Plan Your Visit Deer Park Monastery for Days of MindfulnessEven a Buddha Needs a SanghaPractice Walking Meditation with Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh22 Video Episodes The Buddha's Way by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh21 Video Episodes Peace Is Every Step by Thay, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh18 Video Episodes Science of Buddha by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh24 Video Episodes The Buddha's Path by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhSeries of Video Episodes The Journey of HappinessHow to Walk by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Love by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Relax by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Eat by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Connect by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh#thichnhathanh #howtorelax #happiness #howtolove #walkwithThay

Buddha’s Way 07. Practice Having Deeper Understanding as It Makes Us Accept New Things by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh

“It's like in Plum Village, the monks, the nuns and the lay people advised that they when they go to the Internet, they have to be occupied by a second person. Not only when they go to the marketplace or to the pharmacy, to the post office, they have to go with another person. We call it the second body. That is the practice and publish. So, when you go to the Internet, you have to be accompanied by a second body, so that you will not be ventured into the realm that is not beneficial to you. And if you are a senior brother and everyone know that you never got into this place. But in order to set an example for your younger brothers and sisters, you always go to the Internet in the presence of another brother.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Plan Your Visit Deer Park Monastery for Days of MindfulnessEven a Buddha Needs a SanghaPractice Walking Meditation with Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh22 Video Episodes The Buddha's Way by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh21 Video Episodes Peace Is Every Step by Thay, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh18 Video Episodes Science of Buddha by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh24 Video Episodes The Buddha's Path by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhSeries of Video Episodes The Journey of HappinessHow to Walk by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Love by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Relax by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Eat by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Connect by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh#thichnhathanh #howtorelax #happiness #howtolove #walkwithThay

Buddha’s Way 05. The Teachings of Buddhism Embracing Misfortune and Happiness by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh

“ if you want to love and make someone happy, you should ask yourself question, do I understand him enough? Do I understand her enough? And you, you may like to go to her and ask darling, do you think I understand you enough? And she will tell you. You have not understood her enough, that's sure. And she can help you, darling, because I want to love you and make you happy. I want to understand you. And first of all, your difficulties, your suffering now and in during your child. Please tell me, help me, because I know very well that if I don't understand you, I will make a lot of mistakes. That is the language of love. So understanding is first of all understanding suffering, difficulties, sufferings, blockage. You understand the despair, the frustration, the difficulties, the pain of the person you love. But if you have already understood your own pain, your own anguish, your own despair, it will be much easier to understand the anguish, the despair and the pain of the other person. Because your being is inside and around every understand the nature of your being inside, it will be much easier to understand the nature of your being around us.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Plan Your Visit Deer Park Monastery for Days of MindfulnessEven a Buddha Needs a SanghaPractice Walking Meditation with Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh22 Video Episodes The Buddha's Way by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh21 Video Episodes Peace Is Every Step by Thay, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh18 Video Episodes Science of Buddha by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh24 Video Episodes The Buddha's Path by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhSeries of Video Episodes The Journey of HappinessHow to Walk by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Love by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Relax by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Eat by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Connect by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh#thichnhathanh #howtorelax #happiness #howtolove #walkwithThay

Buddha’s Way 03. Quitting Is an Important Part of Meditation by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh

“When we practice mindful walking, we do the same when we walk with our body and with our mind together. And it should be fully present in every step. It should be there in every step. Fully present. I'm there. I'm really there. When you are alone, you might like to try the slow walk. When you breathe in, just back one step and when you breathe out respect one step. You can afford to do it very slowly because you are alone. You can be as low as you could you. You can afford to be as low as you want breathing in. You might like to say I have arrived. I have arrived. It means I have arrived in the present moment, in the here and the now. And this is not a verbal, A verbal declaration. It is a realization. You have to really arrive.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Plan Your Visit Deer Park Monastery for Days of MindfulnessEven a Buddha Needs a SanghaPractice Walking Meditation with Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh22 Video Episodes The Buddha's Way by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh21 Video Episodes Peace Is Every Step by Thay, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh18 Video Episodes Science of Buddha by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh24 Video Episodes The Buddha's Path by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhSeries of Video Episodes The Journey of HappinessHow to Walk by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Love by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Relax by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Eat by Thay, Thich Nhat HanhHow to Connect by Thay, Thich Nhat Hanh#thichnhathanh #howtorelax #happiness #howtolove #walkwithThay
