    Witnesses say they saw low-flying, triangular craft over military sites | Reality Check

    The White House on Friday released the latest tranche of declassified UFO files that includes information about recent incursions over U.S. military sites. Some of the documents date back to the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, but perhaps the most intriguing records on “unidentified anomalous phenomena” are from this year. They include three separate reports describing what the FBI and the Pentagon call a black, triangle-shaped craft flying over sensitive military sites. The object reportedly flew at an elevation of 200 to 300 feet and measured about 9-feet long, with a wingspan of approximately 13 feet. The craft traveled roughly a mile and a half in less than three seconds while flying near military personnel. It reportedly had no obvious propulsion mechanism and produced no sound or lights. Some officials interviewed about the sightings said the U.S. may still be years away from developing technology comparable to what military personnel reported seeing with their own eyes. Other documents in Friday’s file release include reports of cylinder-shaped flying objects dating back to the 1960s and 1970s in Saudi Arabia, Sweden and other locations.     The Lakenheath drone incursions | Reality Check

    In this episode of "Reality Check," Ross Coulthart sits down with Mike Morgan, a former senior investigating officer with 30 years in British policing and the author of "The Silence is Deafening," and Liberty, a plane spotter who lives near Royal Air Force Lakenheath. The conversation centers on the objects reported over Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Feltwell and Fairford in November 2024, which officials called drones without naming an operator or releasing a single photograph. Morgan explains what his Freedom of Information requests turned up, from a police helicopter's near-miss report to an investigation staffed by part-time officers who, by his account, made no inquiries of local drone operators. Coulthart presses both men on the case for Russian or Chinese involvement and on why bases associated with nuclear weapons might draw that kind of attention.     'Archive X' and the impossible | Reality Check

    In this episode of "Reality Check," Ross Coulthart sits down with Jeffrey J. Kripal, the J. Newton Rayzor Chair in Philosophy and Religious Thought at Rice University and host of the new six-part series "Archive X: Unexplained Phenomena." Kripal oversees Rice's Center for the Impossible, formerly the Archives of the Impossible, a collection that holds the papers of John Mack and Jacques Vallée among more than a million items on telepathy, near-death experience, abduction and precognition. The conversation opens with the nonverbal autistic children of the series' first episode and the place they call the hill. Then, moves to the abduction account of Karin Austin, the artist Andrew Paquette's dreams of disasters that later happened and Kripal's argument that the brain is a receiver of consciousness rather than its producer.     Mapping the Palomar transient hotspots | Reality Check

    In this episode of "Reality Check," Ross Coulthart sits down with astrophysicist Dr. Beatriz Villarroel, founder of the VASCO project at Nordita in Stockholm, and Vanderbilt's Dr. Stephen Bruehl, whose new paper suggests something in near-Earth space was flashing sunlight onto the photographic plates at Palomar Observatory years before Sputnik ever reached orbit. Projected back down to the ground, those flashes don't scatter at random. They cluster over some very familiar places, including the Pacific off Southern Mexico near where the Nimitz Tic-Tac encounter took place in 2004, the southern Gulf of Mexico off Tampico and the American Southwest around Sedona and White Sands Missile Range. The nuclear connection gets even stranger. On the night before Castle Yankee, the 13.5-megaton hydrogen bomb detonated at Bikini Atoll in May 1954, 203 high-probability transients appeared over the Pacific, while the transients tied to Nevada tests fell over Arizona and New Mexico instead. Coulthart plays the debunker for much of the hour, pressing the pair on plate defects, cosmic rays, radioactive fallout, survey bias and whether enough statistical tests will always turn up a hit. They also discuss independent work by former Hubble scientist Ivo Busko, whose plates from a German observatory show the same spike in transients on April 4, 1956, that appears in the Palomar data.
