The Good Music Show

Danny and Julius

Welcome to the Good Music Show with Danny and Julius! Each episode they will give each other an album or playlist based around a theme, then talk about the music and artists that make it. They'll cover a wide spread of artists that they care deeply about: from 2Pac to Willie Nelson, John Prine to Donna Summer, Ray Charles to Future. Keeping an open mind to new styles allows Danny and Julius, as well as listeners, the opportunity to step out of individualized music bubbles and find new music to love.

S3 E3 Side by Side: Outkast x The White Stripes (Playlist Episode)

This one's personal! Welcome to the second installment of our side by side series, where we pick 2 artists to compare and contrast, and create playlists that showcase their best work. The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony featured touching speeches from inductees Outkast and the White Stripes, which got us reflecting on how big of an impact these acts made on our young lives. We start off with the Julius-crafted Outkast playlist, which samples from almost every Outkast album, but also includes a solo Big Boi track that reunites the duo, along with a slick Raekwon verse. We share our album rankings and make the case for Big Boi in the face of people who focus solely on André 3000's undeniable greatness. Then we discuss Danny's White Stripes playlist, including tracks demonstrating why Jack White was a guitar hero for a 10-year-old Danny picking up the electric guitar. But crucially, this playlist also proves why Meg White's sense of timing behind the drum kit was key to the band's success. S2 E12 X-Files - Season Finale (Playlist Episode)

The truth is out there. Today on The Good Music Show, we close out season 2 with a creative narrative-based playlist episode. We assembled songs that we would show to an X-files-esque supernatural being, and we both went with alien extraterrestrial stories. First, Danny takes us through the last playlist he will hear as he reckons with the imminent destruction of Earth. Join him on his crazy farewell/going away party where he remembers the good times before the Moon gets shot right between the eyes. Then, follow a sketch of the core of human history with Julius, where they are tasked with helping an alien with a school project about Earth. This journey sums up humanity and the spiritual archetypical journey of love and hate and war and back through love. Thank you to everyone who has been listening, and we look forward to releasing more episodes in the near future! S2 E11 Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" x Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" - First Listens

Content warning: this episode contains lengthy discussions about death and drug use, and a brief mention of suicide. On this episode we tackle two albums we've never heard before... until we listened to them for the first time for this episode! That's right, instead of perfectly curating a classic album for a prompt, today we are spinning some albums we've been meaning to check out but have not heard a single song from. First we discuss Julius's pick. As a big fan of the Stooges, they never got around to checking out any solo Iggy Pop. Produced by David Bowie, The Idiot is Pop's first solo album and was recorded while both Pop and Bowie were trying to kick their drug habits. Does it meet the high standard set by the Stooges? Find out by listening! On to Danny's pick, we talk about Tonight's the Night - the final installment of the unofficial "Ditch Trilogy." This era saw Neil Young eschewing the sounds of Harvest  that skyrocketed his career. Instead, he made albums infused with raw emotion stemming from tragic losses in his life and struggles with substance abuse. Send us a text message!
