The Fear Review

thefearreview

Welcome to The Fear Review — the horror podcast where a lifelong genre addict (William) somehow convinced his wife Amy to watch every scary movie, not “just a few.” Each week we dive into new theatrical releases and horror classics with two very different perspectives: one of us is quoting Clive Barker, the other is questioning why any couple willingly watches possession movies before bed. If you love scary movies, sarcastic marriage banter, or just want to relive the trauma of the films that scarred you (IT, Candyman, The Conjuring), you’re in the right place. 🎙️ New episodes weekly 📍 Available on Spotify, Apple, YouTube and more 📩 Contact: contact@thefearreview.com Around here, The Fear is Family.

Insidious: The Last Key Review | The Least Scary Yet... So Why Does It Work?

Insidious: The Last Key may be the least scary entry in the franchise so far, but does trading some of those relentless scares for a stronger story actually make it worse? We’re halfway through Further into the Further, and this time William and Amy find a very different kind of Insidious movie. Elise moves firmly to the center of the story as the franchise digs into her childhood, her abilities, and a threat where the line between supernatural horror and very human evil starts to blur. Amy says she could finally breathe a little more during this one although “less scary” still somehow meant multiple jumps and a few screams. We also get into why KeyFace may have one of the coolest designs in the series without being its scariest villain, why Lin Shaye continues to make these prequels work, and whether a stronger mystery can make up for dialing back the scares. We give our ratings before a clearly marked spoiler warning, then head into the Further to talk about the movie’s biggest reveals, Elise’s past, and how The Last Key connects to the larger Insidious story. Where does Insidious: The Last Key rank for you? Does an Insidious movie still work when the story gets stronger but the scares back off?
