💌 on The Five-Star Weekend, saving my mom’s text messages, and a toxic ex situationship

Welcome to the Grief Support Group 🪩💌🍒. This is the show where I examine how pop culture helps us cope with love, life, death, and grief. On today’s episode, I discuss the Peacock show The Five-Star Weekend and how it portrays different types of grief, wanting to archive my mom’s old texts, fall movies (Resident Evil was WILD), how the act of forgetting is a beautiful thing, and more. I also answer the following advice questions: ★ My old neighbor stopped talking to me two months ago. I heard from our mutual friends she was talking shit about me but I decided to give her space until I finally confronted her last weekend asking if we can talk. She said she doesn’t want to engage in a conversation with me and basically will not tell me why she doesn’t want to be friends with me anymore. I’m gutted by it all but most of all the lack of direct communication. I wish she would come to me and keep it real. How do I deal with losing a friend like this? ★ My ex situationship blocked my phone number last week and it has me crashing out because I would always block him when he made me feel emotionally unsafe. He blocked me because he got tired of me always blocking him I assume. He’s since unblocked me but has not messaged or picked up any calls. I do know it rings now though. I know I should save whatever dignity I have left and stop contacting him but I feel hurt thinking our connection could really be over. We were always so toxic and bad to each other though so why does the distance really hurt me this much now? Ive been trying to get space but now that I have it, im gutted. Why am I drawn to toxic people? Spider-Man, Obsession, Backrooms, and the depiction of loneliness on screen

Welcome to the Grief Support Group 🪩💌🍒. This is the show where I examine how pop culture helps us cope with love, life, death, and grief. On today’s episode, I was joined by Jack Molmud, who you may also recognize as husband of GRIEF AND MEDIA! We did a ~thematic analysis~ on the movies we saw this summer (is this what y’all talk about when your partners drive you to Caltrain too?) and noticed a pattern: All of this summer’s box office hits commented on and depicted loneliness in some way. And loneliness is grief, whether it’s longing for something you once had and lost, or longing for something you never had in the first place. We discuss Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Backrooms, and Obsession, and how each of the films’ main characters cope with loneliness. For better or for worse! We also discuss romanticizing life, my psychic hit that brought us together in the first place, and answer the following advice questions: ★ why hyper specific actions can bring back feelings or things you haven't thought about in a long time. (e.g making a grilled cheese for the first time since a breakup) ★ I (gay man mid/late 20s) have a crush on a guy I’ve never met, but we run in the same professional circles. We matched on Hinge last month and have scheduled 4 first dates. Every time it comes down to it, he ghosts me the day of and then the next day has what seems to be a legit excuse (i.e family health emergency, death in the family). I’m conflicted because it definitely feels like this might be a sign he’s not into me the same way I am into him. But I also get mixed signals. What’s your take on the situation? Should I keep pursuing a date or chalk it up to bad timing and move on? grief support group #23 💌 on Something Very Bad is Going to Happen and marriage

Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions. This week we had a very special guest: husband of GRIEF AND MEDIA Jack Molmud! We discuss our anniversary (on 4/20), Netflix’s Something Very Bad is Going to Happen and its themes of relationship dynamics and mortality, and answer the following advice questions: ★ I’m feeling really torn about marriage and kids. The more books I read written by women the more it’s clear that basically most women throughout history regret getting married and having kids (even if they won’t say the words “I regret it” everything always gets way harder on the woman). Also you lose both your first and last name (“mom”, traditionally taking man’s last name) so like how can anyone agree to losing your whole identity when millions of women that came before us are a testament to the fact that it is most often a permanent downgrade in quality of life? But that being said I love kids I think they’re fantastic and I’d love to have some of my own and I love my boyfriend and I do see “forever” with him. So I’m losing it!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the 💌💗GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP🪩🍒‼️. This is my radio show on KSFS Radio at San Francisco State where I talk all things pop culture, my research on grief and media, and answer your advice questions. This week I discuss my presentation at the Popular Culture Association conference, Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance, rejecting the concepts of “content” and “consumption,” what grief literacy is, and answer the following advice questions: ★ Hello Grief and Media! This is Justin from The Reading Podcast 😎 Like you, I love reality tv competitions like Survivor, Big Brother (RIP BBCanada 😭), Drag Race, etc. Since Survivor is so friendly now (Jeff Probst when I catch you…), I wanted to ask you what you think makes a good reality tv fight?
