Our history gives us very good reason to question a Black person found hanging from a tree. But when does healthy skepticism become an unwillingness to accept evidence? We’re looking at several real cases involving Black men, women and teenagers whose deaths sparked everything from unanswered questions and independent autopsies to family investigations, public outrage—and, in some instances, evidence that challenged what people desperately wanted to believe. Then we’re opening up another uncomfortable conversation: what does it mean to be Black in predominantly white spaces when something goes terribly wrong? This episode isn’t about paranoia. It’s about history, evidence, instinct, safety—and knowing the difference between something doesn’t feel right and something doesn’t add up.
