Lindsay Clancy Trial: Her Doctors Saw No Psychosis. What Does That Prove?

Joshua Ritter is joined by board-certified psychiatrist and former FDA medical officer Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring to analyze a critical day of psychiatric testimony in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial. Jurors heard from two psychiatrists who treated Clancy before the deaths of her children, Cora, Dawson and Callan. Dr. Alia Goodheart testified that Clancy showed no signs of psychosis and was considered a low safety risk when she left McLean Hospital 19 days before the killings. Dr. Jennifer Tufts described initially treating Clancy for anxiety and depression, saying Clancy denied experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, hallucinations or other signs of psychosis. Josh and Dr. Josef break down what the psychiatrists’ testimony establishes, what it does not and how it could affect Clancy’s lack-of-criminal-responsibility defense. Could postpartum psychosis have gone undetected during those evaluations? How much can doctors rely on a patient’s self-reporting? And what does the absence of documented psychosis weeks or months earlier prove about Clancy’s mental state at the time of the killings? Plus, Josh covers two major case updates: • Hawaii doctor Gerhardt Konig challenges his attempted manslaughter conviction, claiming jurors misunderstood the judge’s instructions. Konig claimed he acted in self-defense when he attempted to push his wife, Arielle Konig, off a cliff. •  OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney prepares to formally accept a plea agreement in the death of Christian Obumseli at a hearing Monday Follow Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring: https://www.youtube.com/@taperclinic https://x.com/DrJosefWD https://www.instagram.com/drjosefwittdoerring/ About Joshua Ritter: Joshua Ritter is a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor providing legal commentary and analysis on the nation’s biggest true crime cases. Lindsay Clancy Trial: Did the Prosecution’s Own Witness Help Her Defense? With Special Guest Paul Mauro

Criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor Joshua Ritter is joined by Sierra Gillespie, host of Law&Crime’s Scandal, to break down the latest testimony in the Lindsay Clancy trial. Sierra has been closely reporting on the case as prosecutors present their evidence against Clancy, who does not dispute that she killed her three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, but argues that she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum mental illness. Today, prosecutors called the Clancy family’s former nanny, Elaine Rossi, who described Lindsay as “a wonderful mother” who loved her children and was deeply concerned about their safety. Rossi also recalled Clancy struggling with sleep, taking medication and losing a significant amount of weight, but said Clancy never disclosed intrusive thoughts or thoughts of harming herself.  Josh and Sierra discuss whether the prosecution’s own witness ultimately helped or hurt Clancy’s insanity defense, along with the toxicology, medical and forensic evidence presented this week. Then, Fox News analyst and The Weekly Rap Sheet co-host Paul Mauro joins Josh to analyze where the Clancy case stands and what prosecutors must prove to establish that she was criminally responsible. Josh and Paul also break down the latest developments in the Luigi Mangione case, including the defense’s push for greater public and media access as his state murder trial approaches. Lindsay Clancy Trial: Did Her Medications Trigger Psychosis? With Special Guest Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring

Board-certified psychiatrist and former FDA medical officer Dr. Josef Witt-Doerring breaks down Lindsay Clancy’s rapidly changing medication history and explains why he believes her psychiatric treatment may have made her condition “worse and worse” before the deaths of her three children. Joshua Ritter presses Dr. Josef on the question at the center of the trial: even if Clancy was psychotic, could she still have planned her actions and understood they were wrong? They analyze testimony from psychiatrists Dr. Sejal Shah and Dr. Jhilam Biswas, discuss whether psychosis can disappear within days, and examine what Clancy’s medical records and diary entries can and cannot establish. Then, Fox News Digital investigative reporter Michael Ruiz joins Josh with major Nancy Guthrie developments, including the failed attempt to recover DNA from hair evidence, thousands of videos still under review, and new questions surrounding two purported ransom notes. Lindsay Clancy Trial: Psychosis or Planned Murder? With Special Guest Dr. Patrice Berry

Josh Ritter is joined by licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Patrice Berry to recap Day 1 of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial and examine the psychological issues at the center of the case. Lindsay Clancy is accused of killing her three young children, Cora, Dawson and Callan. Her defense argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible. Prosecutors contend that her actions were planned and deliberate. After opening statements and the first part of Patrick Clancy’s testimony, the central question is taking shape: could someone appear organized and purposeful while still experiencing psychosis? Tonight, Josh and Dr. Berry discuss what postpartum psychosis can look like, whether planning rules out psychosis, the warning signs and treatment described in court, and what Patrick’s observations may reveal about Lindsay’s mental state. They also examine the limits of judging someone’s psychological condition by outward behavior alone. Plus, vote in tonight’s Viewers’ Choice poll to decide which case Josh covers next: Nancy Guthrie: Savannah’s New Plea — Savannah Guthrie has released an emotional new video asking her mother’s kidnappers to reveal where Nancy can be found nearly six months after her abduction. Mario Fernandez: Two Charges Dropped — Prosecutors have dropped two charges against Fernandez as he prepares to become the first defendant tried in the alleged murder-for-hire plot to kill Jared Bridegan. Kristin Ramsey: Key Witness Challenged — Prosecutors argue that a key witness in the 2011 murder of real estate agent Ashley Okland remains credible despite the defense’s claims that the witness changed her story. Bryan Kohberger’s “Broken Plea”: Can He Take It Back?

Joshua Ritter is joined by Idaho Statesman investigative reporter Kevin Fixler to break down the stunning news that Bryan Kohberger wants to withdraw his guilty plea and seek a trial in the Idaho student murders case. More than a year after pleading guilty to murdering Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, Kohberger is now declaring his innocence and calling his plea “broken.” In a new statement, he says the plea was based on “false promises and blatant disinformation,” declares his intention to enter a not-guilty plea and says he is willing to risk the death penalty at trial. Kevin, who has covered the case extensively since the investigation began, joins Josh to discuss Kohberger’s statement, what he is alleging and what could happen next. Josh analyzes whether Kohberger has any realistic path to withdraw his plea after sentencing, what he would have to prove and whether the state could seek the death penalty again if the plea were overturned. Then, Josh is joined by criminal defense attorney Elyse Hershon, Esq., to analyze Day 1 of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, including opening statements and the testimony of Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy. They break down the prosecution’s argument that the killings were planned and deliberate, the defense’s claim that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and whether Patrick’s testimony may have helped the prosecution or the defense.
