She was told girls don't play soccer, until she met an American girl who told her that in America, girls can do whatever they want. At ten years old she decided she would come to the United States. Years later she did, arriving as a teenager and moving in with a family where no one spoke Spanish. Her English came fast. As she tells it, after three days of waiting for someone to sit down for dinner, she figured she had better learn the language or she was going to starve. That same grit built a career. She spent nearly a decade at American Express Travel, working the call center through September 11th to get stranded travelers home. She moved into Medicare almost by accident and became rookie of the year having never owned or sold a policy. She went on to build multiple companies, including S&R Services, now a team of about 30 agents, and Rosie Paulsen Enterprises, where she mentors other servant leaders entering the Medicare space. What began in Florida now reaches seniors across the country. She is also the author of Ñeque, named for the Ecuadorian word for grit and resilience, built on four components: purpose, persistence, perseverance, and pivot. She chairs the Spirit of the Community Awards for the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. In this episode of The Cynthia Manion Show, Rosie sits down with Cynthia to talk about the soccer field that started it all, why she treats Medicare as a calling rather than a sale, the four Ps behind her book, sitting at the tables where decisions get made, and what she wants to leave for her family and the people she serves.
