And who better to guide you through it than Todd and his merry co-hosts, delving deep into the art of enjoying the holidays without losing your cool (or your goals). Here’s your step-by-step guide inspired by the sage discussions from Chris & Todd --- Step 1: Acknowledge the Stress (And Plan for Success) Todd’s wisdom rings clear: acknowledge the holiday stress. Whether it's Christmas Day, New Year’s, or the madness in between, it’s crucial to admit that ya ain't gonna juggle everything without strategy. - Evaluate Your Stress Level: Are you red-light-about-to-burnout, yellow-light-cautiously-optimistic, or green-light-diving-into-the-season-like-Scrooge-on-happy-pills? Categorise yourself and plan accordingly. - Build That Social Media Strategy: As Todd works on his social media game for his business, apply the same tactics to manage your holiday. Create work-life harmony before going all in. Step 2: Perfect Your Average Day Craft the “Perfect Day” blueprint. - Morning Movement: Be it a brisk walk, hardcore training, or simply dancing around the tree—start the day moving. Not only does it burn those extra calories from holiday feasts, but it sets a positive, energetic tone for your day. - Afternoon Relaxation: After burning the energy, switch to rest and digest. Dive into festive activities, culinary indulgence, or lazy lounging—they all fit here. Step 3: Embrace the Holiday Growth Mindset Use the holiday downtime not just for relaxation, but as a “playground for life.” Think of the off-time as a canvas to craft the days you'd live if you had all the time (and money!) in the world. Step 4: New Year’s Revolution, Not Resolution Face it—resolutions are out; revolutions are in. Here’s how you approach them: - List Your Desired Change: Grab a pen (or your favourite note’s app). Scribble what you'd love to conquer in the new year. - Identify the Roadblocks: Recognise what tripped you up in the past. Fear? Time? Netflix? Acknowledge these joy-killers and strategize to thwart them. Step 5: Traffic Light System The “traffic light” approach to goal-setting. Create a green, yellow, and red light plan: - Green Light: Full steam ahead! You’re motivated, eager, and have the bandwidth to go all out. - Yellow Light: Proceed with caution. Maybe life’s throwing some curveballs, but you’re still in the game. Scale back your efforts reasonably. - Red Light: Minimal viable effort. Don’t beat yourself up for not doing everything. Stick to the smallest, simplest actions that keep you in the game. Step 6: Get Ready for the Habit Hangover Brace yourself for the inevitable: Habit Hangover. Week 3 blues are real and kicking. Combat it by establishing consistent, sustainable habits that become second nature, regardless of life’s whims. Step 7: Reclaim and Repurpose Resource allocation matters. - Time: Where can you snag a few spare minutes in your day? - Money: Are your expenses aligned with your goals? - Attention: Redirect focus from the mindless scroll to things that truly nourish your soul. --- In the end, making magic out of the holidays or new year aspirations isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence, patience, and a dash of playful persistence. Follow these steps, align them with your daily life, and get ready to turn a stressful season into a sensational success! Enjoy the season and emerge on the other side ready to rock your resolutions with more gusto than Father Christmas’s sleigh makes its rounds. Happy Holidays! If you think parenting is a breeze, you're either superhuman or deceiving yourself. But worry not, because today's blog post is your lifeline. We recently had a riveting podcast conversation with our regular guest Todd, where we tackled the beast we know as parenting. What makes it tough? And is it really as daunting as it seems? Creating Space to Parent Your Way We started our conversation with the concept of creating enough space in our busy lives to actually parent the way we want. Remember your childhood? Recall the methods your parents used that made you cringe and vow to do things differently. Creating space isn't just physical—it's mental. It’s about setting aside the chaos to focus on what truly matters: moulding the little humans entrusted to us. Ruptures and Repairs—The Backbone of Relationships In our podcast discussion, we stumbled upon the theme of “rupture and repair.” It’s a cycle that happens in every parent-child relationship. Ruptures are those moments when things go awry—a missed connection or a misplaced word. But more crucial than the rupture itself is the repair. Like an emotional Band-Aid, repairs help build resilience and keep the lines of communication open. As one of our favourite anecdotes from a book describes, it's about swiftly addressing the behavior in the most effective, yet compassionate manner. Understanding Open Loops and Triggers Next up, we delved into the world of open loops—those pesky unfinished tasks that crowd our mental bandwidth and affect our parenting mojo. By learning to manage your open loops, you set yourself up to be a more present and relaxed parent. Remember, it's not about closing all loops, but managing those that subconsciously weigh you down. The Ever-Changing Story We Tell Ourselves A fascinating part of this journey is redefining the narratives we carry. One such tale is believing that parenting is inherently hard. Shifting this story could transform how we approach our roles. For instance, we used to loathe the school run, but upon reflection, we realised those drives offered precious bonding time with our kids—a chance to savour moments that are all too fleeting. Self-Care: Not Just a Buzzword Both Todd and I underscored the critical importance of self-care. It's vital to nurture yourself to show up better for your kids. Exercise, nutrition, and mental well-being are not negotiable—they're necessary investments in yourself that pay dividends in your parenting. Final Thoughts We wrapped up on an optimistic note. Parenting, while no walk in the park, offers numerous approaches and rich experiences. The key is not waiting for parenting to get easier but equipping ourselves with strategies to handle it with grace. So, kudos to every parent striving to create positive experiences for their kids, even amidst their imperfections. If you’ve reached this part of the blog, you're a dedicated parent looking to make a difference. Keep going! Each moment you invest in understanding yourself and connecting with your child is a step toward becoming the parent you aspire to be. Join us in our next episode, and don't forget—your perspective as a parent is invaluable to us. Share your thoughts, reach out, and let's create a community of thriving parents together. Here's to parenting smarter, not harder! P.S. - Done watching from the sidelines? Space Builders is where dreamers become doers. We're building something different - a tribe of intentional adventurers who know extraordinary lives aren't built alone. Ready to become a Space Builder? Your expedition awaits.
