    What Would You Do With One More Day

    Send us Fan Mail I thought this would be a quick snapshot, but it turns into something heavier and more honest. A new job has me traveling back to Alaska, the place I was born and raised, and it’s strange how time changes the story. When I left, I couldn’t wait to be gone. Now I’m back four or five times a year, and every trip makes me love the state more. Coming home doesn’t just bring scenery and nostalgia, though. It brings the parts of your life you tried to outgrow. I end up in my hometown, where memory lane is basically unavoidable, and I stop at a park with a rock that holds my mom’s plaque. Her name, her dates, and a few words about her warmth and kindness pull me straight into grief. If you’ve lived through the loss of a parent, you know how fast life keeps moving and how easy it is to never slow down long enough to feel it. I also talk about something many of us, especially men, do without realizing it: avoiding pain by stuffing it down and driving right past the places that would make us stop and breathe. My perspective is shaped by years in law enforcement, telling families their loved one is gone when they expected them home for dinner. That experience makes one message impossible to ignore: you’re not promised another tomorrow. I was coming out of law enforcement against my will, carrying the weight of homicide and child abuse work, and trying to make sense of a nervous system stuck in survival mode. This anniversary is me pulling the curtain back and telling you what changed, what didn’t, and why this podcast became a lifeline for me and, apparently, for some of you too. I talk about the highs and lows of the last 160 episodes, including the moments that forced real self-reflection: the armor we hide behind, the pride we don’t want to admit, and the secrets that quietly shape our choices. I share how therapy helped me start processing trauma and why changing your relationship with a memory can change your whole life. I also talk openly about faith, what it looks like when you drift, and what it takes to come back and rebuild something solid.
