Key topics In this episode, they explain that a good financial advisor should start by listening to your goals, not by pushing a product. They use a sat nav analogy to show how advice should help map the most appropriate route based on your destination and your risk tolerance. They discuss why emergency funds matter, including the warning that many people are only a couple of pay slips away from trouble. Explain why money needed in the short term should not be left in volatile investments, especially if it is earmarked for something like a renovation. They stress that different people have different priorities, such as protecting income, saving for a renovation, or funding a pension. They talk about the importance of plain-English explanations so clients understand what they are signing up for before they leave the meeting. Reviews are a major theme, with both hosts saying an advisor should revisit your plan regularly as your circumstances, goals, and legislation change. The episode closes with a reminder that if you do not feel comfortable with your advisor, it may be time to have an honest conversation or find a better fit.
