    The Guilt of Choosing Yourself

Send a message or voice memo Have you ever finally chosen to do something for yourself… only to feel guilty about it afterward? Maybe you said no because you were exhausted. Made plans with your girlfriends. Took time to rest. Or decided you couldn't take on one more responsibility. And suddenly, instead of enjoying your decision, you're questioning whether you're being selfish. Ay, mijita. I know that feeling. In Episode 66 of Ay Mijita, The Guilt of Choosing Yourself, we're exploring why honoring our needs can feel uncomfortable when we're used to being the dependable one. I'm sharing what I've been learning while balancing my corporate career, family, marriage, and the things I love creating—including a recent experience of showing up late to Club Pilates and realizing how quickly I fill unexpected free time with more tasks. We also explore the expectations we inherit from our families, how my breast cancer journey changed my relationship with receiving support, and why choosing yourself doesn't automatically mean choosing against someone else. In this episode, we talk about: Why feeling guilty doesn't always mean you've done something wrong. How being capable can lead to overcommitting.Mexican raíces, family expectations, and inherited ideas about sacrifice.Learning to receive support without feeling like you have to earn it.Why setting boundaries and loving your family can coexist. How communication matters when saying no.Using the five steps of the PAUSE Method when guilt shows up.A guided reflection to help you make one intentional choice for yourself.Your invitation this week: Ask yourself: What is one thing I've been putting off because I feel guilty about choosing it? You don't have to wait until the guilt disappears to make a thoughtful decision that honors your needs. 🌹 Get my free PAUSE Guide and audio activation: https://dorapraxedis.kit.com/pause-before-you-say-yes Connect with me: Instagram: @aymijitapodcast Website: https://www.dorapraxedis.com Coming next: A heart-to-heart with my longtime friend Jill about travel, friendship, intuition, and making room for life. Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You

Send a message or voice memo When was the last time you really listened to your body—not just when something hurt, but during the ordinary moments of your life? For years, I was so accustomed to being the dependable one that checking in with myself often came last. Then, at 38 years old, an unexpected discovery changed my relationship with my body. After straining my pectoral muscle during a workout in 2025, I noticed a lump in my left breast while massaging the area. What I initially thought was a cyst eventually led to my diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer. In Episode 65 of Ay Mijita, I'm sharing that personal experience and exploring what it means to take our physical health, emotional well-being, intuition, and everyday needs seriously—without waiting until life reaches a breaking point. In this episode, we explore: Why pushing through exhaustion and postponing our own needs can become a habit. The experience that changed how I approach my health and receiving support. How to notice everyday physical sensations and emotions without assuming what they mean. Why intuition and professional medical care can coexist. How to use the five-step PAUSE Method to check in with yourself.A gentle guided body check-in you can practice in your own time.Your invitation this week: Ask yourself: What is one part of my well-being that deserves more attention right now? Choose one manageable action. Maybe it's resting, asking for support, making an overdue appointment, or giving yourself a moment to pause. You don't have to finish everything before caring for yourself. 🌹 Continue exploring the PAUSE Method: https://dorapraxedis.kit.com/pause-before-you-say-yes Connect with me on Instagram: @aymijitapodcast Embrace your raíces. PAUSE Before You Say Yes

Send a message or voice memo How many times have you said yes before checking in with yourself? Yes, I can help. Yes, I'll figure it out. Yes, I can take on one more thing. And then comes the exhaustion, resentment, or quiet realization that your yes to someone else became another no to yourself. In this episode of Ay Mijita, I'm introducing my PAUSE Method, a five-step practice I've shaped through nearly a decade of learning to slow down, listen inward, and make decisions that honor my needs as much as everyone else's. I share how being the dependable daughter, mother, wife, friend, and leader shaped my relationship with saying yes, and how my experience with breast cancer deepened my understanding of receiving support and listening to my body. Inside this episode, we'll explore: Why saying yes can become automatic, even when you're already overwhelmed. The difference between a wholehearted yes, a conditional yes, and a conditioned yes.The five steps of PAUSE: Pause, Acknowledge, Understand, Self-care, and Express gratitude. How to communicate a boundary without abandoning your compassion.A guided two-minute PAUSE practice to help you approach a real decision with more clarity.Your invitation I've created a free companion guide and guided PAUSE audio activation so you can continue this practice beyond the episode. Download your free PAUSE guide and activation  Remember, the pause doesn't always lead to no. It creates space for a more honest answer. Embrace your raíces. Reclaim your esencia. One Year Of Healing

Send a message or voice memo A full year of publishing changes you, whether you meant it to or not. I’m celebrating my one-year podcast anniversary with a behind-the-scenes look at how this show started, why it almost didn’t, and what kept me recording even when I felt exposed, uncertain, or simply exhausted. This milestone also lands next to a deeply symbolic moment in my breast cancer survivor journey: having my chemo port removed. It feels like a closing, an opening, and a reminder that healing is never just one thing. I’m also counting down the four episodes you listened to the most and unpacking why they hit so hard. We revisit ancestral healing and spiritual practices including “Ancestral Energy Medicine” and “limpias,” and the way cultural traditions can bring us back to ourselves without shame. We talk about first generation Latina life and generational healing through cycle breaking, including teen motherhood, strict family expectations, and choosing a different future while still honoring where we come from. Then we go deeper into naming childhood wounds, people pleasing, fear, control, and the hard decision to get support for mental health when it finally hits home. I also share one of my most vulnerable topics: money. From bankruptcy to abundance mindset, the real work is worthiness, learning to receive, and trusting that being resourceful matters more than pretending you’re fine. If you’ve ever felt like you had to be the strong one, this conversation is for you. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the show.
