EP. 80 - Seagal Hagege on Turning Helmets Into Hope

Seagal Hagege never set out to become a fundraiser or an advocate for the arts. A New York schoolteacher who moved to Israel with her family, she was still struggling to find her place when October 7 changed everything. What began with a request to help provide boots for Israeli soldiers grew into an extraordinary effort to supply military equipment—and eventually inspired Helmets for Chayalim, a project that transforms used military helmets into powerful works of art. In this episode of Orange Socks, Seagal shares how a simple idea evolved into a collaboration with artists from around the world. We explore the stories behind the helmets, their journey from the battlefield to galleries and museums, and the remarkable ways art can connect communities, honor sacrifice, and offer a glimpse of healing and hope. We also talk about finding purpose in unexpected places, the challenges of making aliyah, and what happens when you stop waiting for the perfect opportunity and simply start doing something. It's a conversation about the power of an idea, the impact one person can have, and how creativity can become something much bigger than the artwork itself. As always, it's about finding your orange socks by leaning into who you already are.More about Orange Socks: Follow and keep up to date with the podcast in Instagram https://www.instagram.com/orangesockspodcast/ Contact us at orangesockspodcast@gmail.com Now on Apple Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/orange-socks-podcast/id1749369628 On Spotify https://open.spotify.com/episode/5Ec3LbPdujZG531xKLPssh?si=381bf3bb2b624ffd On Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@OrangeSocksPodcast Connect with Yitzchok Moully https://www.instagram.com/moullyart/ https://www.moullyart.com/

EP. 79 - Avigail Scheinfeld on Finding Her Voice After October 7

Avigail Scheinfeld  is an Israeli singer, DJ, vocal coach, and music producer who has spent much of her life bringing women together through music. In this episode of Orange Socks, Avigail shares how October 7 changed her life, as her husband was called into military service and she made the unexpected decision to leave her steady job and devote herself fully to music. We explore the extraordinary power of music to bring comfort, connection, and hope during difficult times. Avigail shares the deeply personal experiences of raising three daughters while her husband serves in the IDF reserves, the remarkable story behind her daughter's name, and the inspiration for her newest song, Hakachol V'Halavan (The Blue and the White). Through it all, she reflects on Jewish pride, resilience, and the determination to continue celebrating life even in the face of unimaginable loss. It's a moving conversation about finding your purpose, using your gifts to make a difference, and discovering that sometimes art isn't simply something we enjoy—it's something we need. As always, it's about finding your orange socks by leaning into who you already are. About Avigail: My name is Avigail, a religious singer from Tzur Hadassah in Israel. I perform live for women only. I've been singing and performing for 20 years. I am also a DJ, a vocal coach and music producer. I'm the official singer at OU women events in Israel. I am the proud wife of a soldier who has done over 500 days of reserves (Miluim) since October 7th. I am a proud mother to 3 beautiful girls, b"H. EP 78. - David Feld on Using the Gifts You’re Given

David Feld is an architect and founder of Feld and Associates in Los Angeles. In this episode of Orange Socks, David shares the unlikely path that took him from yeshiva and smicha into architecture school, and the advice that stayed with him along the way: if you’ve been given a particular ability, don’t waste it. We talk about what architecture has taught him about creativity—the tension between big ideas and endless implementation, why tight constraints can actually produce better work, and what it takes to turn a drawing into a building that has to function in the real world. David also reflects on designing Jewish spaces, building a business and team, and the question of whether there is such a thing as distinctly Jewish architecture. It’s a conversation about recognizing the gifts you’ve been given, figuring out what they’re for, and having the passion to actually use them. As always, it’s about finding your orange socks by leaning into who you already are. EP. 77 - Nechama Hordiner on the Courage to Play

Nechama Hordiner is an artist, educator, and the new marketing director at Tzohar Seminary for the Art and Chassidus. Tzohar makes space for creativity, self-expression, and deep personal exploration. In this episode of Orange Socks, Nechama shares her own journey from arts high school in Toronto to becoming religious, and the struggle she experienced trying to reconcile those two parts of herself. Our conversation moves from art and education into something much bigger: the importance of play. Nechama challenges our obsession with results and asks what might happen if we gave ourselves permission to create, explore, and even fail without needing to know where it will lead. We talk about individuality, raising children, finding your own way to serve Hashem, and learning to listen—to ourselves and to the people around us. It’s a wonderfully open conversation about letting go of the need to always get it right—and rediscovering the courage to play. As always, it’s about finding your orange socks by leaning into who you already are.
