QAW explores fashion, gender expression at work, what belonging looks like and what organisations have succeeded in creating this in West Africa, what roles are available to queer people, beyond the creative industry. At QAW, we normalise the specific challenges the LGBTQIA+ community experiences at work to reduce the isolation that accompanies these challenges. We also explore different resources that can be helpful to the listener and finally, contribute to building resilience and preparedness for the world of work. This project will be done in partnership with UsTherapy.

    On queer entrepreneurship in Africa, why does it matter?

    In this episode, we meet Rebecca, an avid jewellery curator and the founder of Avoir and Jordan/Lolu, the founder of Vangei, a brand that focuses on custom-made genderless pieces and Kansrestyle, a thrift and consignment store. They each share their experience building a brand, sourcing their products, identifying their audience and bringing their full selves to a downright hostile environment.

In this conversation, we are exploring these costs with Obioma, the executive director of Intersex Nigeria (Center for Healthcare Development and Youth Empowerment).
