My story is no different and yet is mine alone: I am a recovering perfectionist learning to love my good enoughs and my I gave it my alls. My story leans into the dirt of my life: poverty, sexual abuse, young motherhood, divorce, womanhood, midlife, and domestic abuse. But my story is more about the space I have taken up in the dirt to grow: resilience, courage, gratefulness, determination, persistence, joy, and love. It is the culmination of my experiences that has led me to live a gratefully joy-filled life.

    Shedding and Unraveling

    Season 2, Episode 4 “Shedding and Unraveling” Of Dirt and Wildflowers: A Podcast Hosted by Kylee Jean Marshall In today’s episode, “Shedding and Unraveling,” we will diginto the dirt of life to better understand the that in order to make room for new growth, for any growth at all, we must shed. We must clear. We must allow there to be possibility. I don’t know if I realized what was happening until it hadalready happened – this shedding that left me both raw and also floating, free. Maybe I didn’t know it was happening because what was happening felt like complete destruction and how can destruction and devastation and loss feel likeanything other than ember weight, like sable darkness. But it was there all along, in the shedding and the unraveling, in the clearing out and the cleansing, in the pruning. It was there – it takes one hell of a fire for a phoenix to grow wings from the flames. It requires a clearing – we must create clearings in our lives – prune away all that attaches us to a season passed, past – in order to make space, make room for the impending bloom. In this special reading of my recent blog, I will share with you 45 sacred truths. April is always the idyllic reminder of the beauty in a dance. The two steps forward and the one step back. We throw open windows to welcome a soft breeze sliding down off mountain tops and release layers from our shoulders to let the sun drape itself over our winter skin. And in the next moment, we are holding onto anything not secure, not tethered to keep it from blowing away in the unrelenting wind. Two steps forward and one step back. We saunter into the wild to witness the first blooms brave the barren ground of a sleeping Earth, and we turn our faces up, eyes closed, to take in deep inhales of air broken free from winter’s hold. And in the next moment, we are running for cover as the chilled rain pelts against our exposed skin. We watch the windowpane become a kaleidoscope of watercolor and are reminded that without this, we cannot have the other. Two steps forward and one step back.
