    The Church of the Firstborn (Part 2) : The Blessings | Enoch, the 144,000 & Zion (LDS)

    Send us Fan Mail What are the blessings of the Church of the Firstborn, and who are its members? In this LDS (Latter-day Saint) episode, Tia Smith walks through the promises in Doctrine and Covenants 76:50–70. They include coming forth in the resurrection of the just, overcoming all things, dwelling in the presence of God and Christ, and receiving celestial bodies. She shows how these blessings come line upon line as we do the work of the gathering of Israel now. Building on last week's episode on what the Church of the Firstborn is and how to attain to it, we look at who already belongs to it: Adam and Eve, Enoch, Noah, Moses, Elijah, Melchizedek, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (D&C 133:54–55), along with their wives. We also look at the role of the 144,000 (D&C 77:11). Tia explores Enoch's translation and the power given to those of his order (Hebrews 11:5; Moses 7; JST Genesis 14:27–33), and the covenant of the rainbow, which promises that the General Assembly of the Church of the Firstborn will return to join Zion on the earth (JST Genesis 9:21–25). A: The Church of the Firstborn is the eternal, heavenly church of those who become joint heirs with Jesus Christ, the Firstborn, and receive all that the Father has. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the earthly, preparatory church. Membership requires baptism and confirmation, while the Church of the Firstborn also requires the temple endowment and sealing ordinances (Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual; Aaron P. A: The Encyclopedia of Mormonism describes it as Christ's heavenly church, whose members are exalted beings who receive an inheritance in the highest heaven of the celestial world, where the family continues in eternity. Doctrine and Covenants 93:22 teaches that all who are begotten through Christ "are partakers of the glory of the same, and are the church of the Firstborn."     The Lost Ten Tribes & Calling and Election Made Sure | October 2026 General Conference

    Send us Fan Mail What did President Dallin H. Oaks really say about new records of the lost ten tribes of Israel in the October 2026 LDS (Latter-day Saint) General Conference? In this episode, Tia Smith studies his talk "The Gospel of Jesus Christ Is for All" side by side with his April 2006 talk "All Men Everywhere," where he taught the same promise, almost word for word, as an apostle. Both talks testify that the Lord will eventually bring forth accounts of the resurrected Savior's visit to the lost tribes of Israel (2 Nephi 29:13). We look at what John Taylor and Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught about the records and return of the lost tribes, and why it matters that this promise now comes from the man who directs the keys of "the leading of the ten tribes from the land of the north" (D&C 110:11). Then we turn to making our calling and election sure. Drawing on Elder David A. Bednar's "Sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise" and Elder Gerrit W. Gong's "Come to the Lord in His Holy House," we explore how the Holy Spirit of Promise ratifies our covenants, the role temples play in sealing families for eternity, Elder Theodore M. Burton's teaching on a "book of our dead," and the Prophet Joseph Smith's teaching on the Second Comforter. Q: Did President Oaks announce new scripture from the lost ten tribes in October 2026? A: He testified that the Lord will "eventually" bring forth inspired teachings from various nations, including accounts of Christ's visit to the lost tribes of Israel.     Painting the Other Side of the Veil | Ancestors Who Led Me Back to the Temple

    Send us Fan Mail Can our ancestors help us from the other side of the veil, even after we've stepped away from the Church? In this Latter-day Saint (LDS) episode, Tia Smith visits artist and art therapist Heather Lewis in her studio across the street from the Provo City Temple. Heather tells how she quietly stopped participating after years of leaning on others' testimonies, and how her son's service mission, a patient bishop, and visits from her own family beyond the veil softened her heart and brought her back to the temple. Heather shares the experience behind one of her paintings. At her lowest point, sitting on a mountain trail, her two grandfathers came to her, gave her a blessing, and told her she could not learn about the temple from outside it. She needed to go back. She also describes returning to the temple and finding the same family she had done endowments for years earlier waiting for her to finish their work, and a name that kept coming to her for days, which she first thought meant she should move to Laramie, Wyoming, until she realized it was an ancestor waiting for his baptism. In Class 4 of this five-part series for LDS (Latter-day Saint) young single adults on parting the veil through the gathering of Israel, Tia Smith teaches what the scriptures say about the ministering of angels and why those engaged in family history and temple work can expect to experience it. Drawing on Moroni 7:29–32, Moroni 10, 2 Nephi 32:3–6, Hebrews 1:14, and Moses 1:39, along with teachings from Parley P. Pratt, the Prophet Joseph Smith, President Joseph F. Smith, Jeffrey R. Moroni 7:29–30 teaches that angels have not ceased to minister unto the children of men, showing themselves to those "of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness." Verse 31 says their office is to call people to repentance and to do the work of the covenants of the Father. Q: How do angels communicate with us, according to LDS scripture? A: 2 Nephi 32:3 teaches that angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost. Tia cites an Ensign article suggesting that because of this, some promptings we perceive from the Spirit may be the result of angelic ministration, whether it comes unseen and quiet or openly beheld. Q: Can I pray and ask God to send angels to help me? A: President Russell M. Nelson taught that we may even want to ask God for His angels to walk with us where we presently do not want to tread. In this class, Tia invites young adults to make this part of their prayers, asking for help finding those on the other side of the veil and for strength in their own trials. Q: Is seeing angels only for prophets and Church leaders? A: Moroni 10:14 lists "the beholding of angels and ministering spirits" among the gifts of the Spirit, and Moroni 10:8 exhorts us to "deny not the gifts of God."     When the Gospel Feels Like a Checklist: Religious OCD & Healing in the Temple (LDS)

    Send us Fan Mail Can a Latter-day Saint (LDS) struggling with religious OCD and scrupulosity find peace with God again? Sariah was a returned missionary who served in the Dominican Republic. On her mission, anxiety made prayer, scripture study and even a picture of Jesus feel frightening. She spent months unable to feel God. After she came home, a few seconds of light and hope came to her while she sat in the backyard with her mom. That moment led her to serve as a temple ordinance worker, and there Jesus Christ began to heal her by showing her mission experience through the lens of His love. Sariah and Tia Smith talk about why a checklist gospel can never save us, and how Sariah came to see that covenants are about connection with Christ, not about doing everything "right." Sariah also shares thinning of the veil experiences from gathering Israel. She saw a weary mother standing on a cobblestone street, and that vision led her to an Austrian family on FamilySearch. Names have come to her at the temple prayer roll. In the temple she realized that no one is outside the Savior's saving reach. Sariah is now a Temple and Family History leader in her young single adult (YSA) ward. She tells how she started a second-hour class that teaches doctrine and shares experiences, not just how to attach sources. She explains how rending the veil of unbelief (Moroni 7) opened the heavens for her friends. Q: Can temple service help with religious OCD or scrupulosity as a Latter-day Saint? A: For Sariah, it was essential. After her mission, the temple felt triggering, yet she received a clear impression that serving in the house of the Lord would be part of her healing. As a temple ordinance worker, she felt Jesus Christ heal what she thought was a broken covenant connection. He showed her mission experience through the lens of His love.
