F*ck Your Bucket List: Stop Waiting for Someday

Bucket lists are where dreams go to die. In this episode of the Pivot Party, I’m making the case for ditching “someday” and actually doing the thing. I’m also kicking off Jessi Jean’s 40-day yapper challenge, because my ADHD brain needs structure, accountability, and probably some adult supervision. We get into the learning loop, aka analysis paralysis, where you take one more course, read six more books, and still don’t feel ready. I’m a self-professed course whore, so I know this one well. I share how playing polo at 63 taught me to learn at the walk before the canter, why a gym class beats three reps and a coffee, and what happened the day I left a pan on the stove for two hours. If something has been simmering on your back burner, this is your nudge to pull it to the front and turn up the heat. Why I'm Pivoting My Content NOW in My 60s

Why am I pivoting my content in my 60s? Because reinvention doesn't have an expiration date, and I'm not about to stop trying new things just because I've reached a certain age. In this solo episode of Midlife Strategies for Badass Women, I'm sharing why I'm changing direction with my content, stepping into the world of user-generated content (UGC), and exploring new creative opportunities as a woman in my 60s. After years of encouraging women over 40 to get out of their comfort zones, embrace change, and stop putting their dreams on the back burner, I've decided to take a fresh dose of my own advice. And here's the thing. This isn't about becoming an influencer or teaching you how to create content. It's about following my curiosity, putting decades of experience to work in new ways, and seeing what happens when I give myself permission to be a beginner again. I'm also talking about why fall is such a powerful time for reflection and personal growth, how slowing down can help you reconnect with your creativity, and why everything you've learned throughout your life might be exactly what you need for your next chapter. In this episode: - Why I'm pivoting my content and exploring UGC in my 60s - How I'm turning years of experience into new creative opportunities - Why you don't need thousands of followers to explore content creation - How curiosity can help you discover your next chapter - Why fall is the perfect time to slow down, reflect, and try something new - How to stop waiting for the perfect moment and start doing the things you've been putting off I'm inviting you along for the journey, including the experiments, the lessons, and probably a few spectacularly awkward moments. Because you don't have to know exactly where you're going to take the first step. What's something you've been curious about trying but haven't quite given yourself permission to do? Tell me in the comments. Subscribe to Midlife Strategies for Badass Women for honest conversations about midlife reinvention, personal growth, creativity, and living life on your own terms. And remember, f**k your bucket list. Start living now. Perimenopause, Perfectionism, and People-Pleasing: Why Midlife Feels So Overwhelming - w/ Erin Dougherty

What if the biggest problem with midlife isn't that you're falling apart, but that you're still trying to hold every damn thing together? Perimenopause, career changes, aging parents, shifting identities, and the never-ending pressure to have it all figured out. Is it any wonder so many women hit midlife and think, What the hell happened, and how did I get here? In this episode of Midlife Strategies for Badass Women, Sue Willoughby sits down with health and wellness coach Erin Dougherty for an honest, funny, and refreshingly practical conversation about navigating midlife without losing yourself in the process. From perfectionism and people-pleasing to emotional overwhelm, self-worth, and the pressure to reinvent yourself, Sue and Erin explore why so many women feel compelled to keep doing more, achieving more, and fixing everything, even when they're running on empty. Erin shares her personal journey through perimenopause, career reinvention, and recovering from perfectionism, along with practical strategies for creating sustainable change. Together, they dig into the power of self-compassion, listening to your body, questioning old beliefs, and learning to recognize when resistance is fear versus when it's your intuition telling you something isn't right. And yes, there are horses involved. Because sometimes a thousand-pound animal can teach you more about yourself than another five-year plan ever will. In this episode, we explore: Why midlife can feel like everything is falling apart at once How perimenopause, life transitions, and changing priorities affect your sense of self Why perfectionism and people-pleasing leave so many women exhausted How to stop trying to fix everything and start making meaningful changes The difference between fear-based resistance and genuine intuition Why self-compassion, body awareness, and emotional resilience matter How meditation, journaling, and EFT tapping can support self-reflection Why you don't need a five-year plan to figure out your next chapter How to give yourself permission to evolve without having all the answers The big takeaway: You don't need to overhaul your entire life, become a different person, or figure out the next 30 years. Sometimes the most badass thing you can do is stop, get curious, listen to yourself, and take one small step toward what actually matters. Chapters 0:00 Perimenopause, midlife upheaval, and losing the filter 5:16 Why women feel responsible for everything 8:12 Personalized coaching for overwhelmed women 17:12 Moving beyond performative goals and fixed plans 26:23 Listening to the body and working with resistance 32:48 Coaching tools: meditation, tapping, and journaling 43:08 Root causes, functional medicine, and hormone care 46:26 How to connect with Erin Doherty Connect with Erin Dougherty: Visit Erin's website to learn about her health and wellness coaching and free clarity call. Shedding the Good Girl Myth and Embracing LGBTQ Representation with Angela Briones

Welcome back to Midlife Strategies for Badass Women! In today's episode, I am thrilled to chat with fellow podcaster and award-winning writer Angela Briones. Angela hosts "The Gay Podcast for Everyone" and a show about indie podcasting called "Thank You for Joining Me". She shares the unbelievable story of arriving late and sweaty to the Broadway play "Every Brilliant Thing," only to be pulled on stage to perform alongside Mariska Hargitay. Beyond the glitz of New York theater, Angela gets deeply vulnerable about her personal journey. We discuss the heavy cultural conditioning she faced growing up Catholic and Latina, specifically the spoken and unspoken message that women are prettier when they are quiet. Angela shares what it was like to come out at age 30 after hiding in the closet for a decade, how she navigated conversations with her parents about her "roommate," and why representation matters so much today. We also talk shop about the reality of indie podcasting, battling the inner critic, and why taking a break from your creative passions is perfectly fine as long as you do not quit. In this episode, we cover: How Angela accidentally ended up performing on Broadway with Mariska Hargitay. The inspiration behind "The Gay Podcast for Everyone" and helping parents navigate conversations with their LGBTQ kids. Angela's experience coming out at age 30 and unpacking her internalized homophobia. Overcoming cultural "good girl" conditioning and the phrase "Calladita te ves mas bonita". Why your mindset is more important than your microphone when creating content. Sue shares her own coming out story at age 17 and discovering her mother was also a lesbian. Stronger Bones After 40: What Every Woman Needs to Know About OsteoStrong - with Natalie Nicholas

Welcome back to Midlife Strategies for Badass Women! Today, host Sue Willoughby sits down with Natalie Nicholas, the owner of OsteoStrong in Reno, Nevada, to discuss a foundational pillar of aging fiercely: our skeletal system. At 39 years old and freshly divorced, Natalie suffered a severe spinal injury from a ruptured disc that required a microdiscectomy and left her dependent on a catheter for nine months. Faced with a diagnosis of severe arthritis and a loss of confidence in her physical abilities, Natalie began searching for ways to heal. That search led her to OsteoStrong—a global franchise utilizing "impact emulation" to safely trigger bone growth without the risks of heavy lifting or high-impact jumping. She opened her own center in 2020 and has completely rebuilt her body, even joining a flat-track roller derby team at age 48! If you have been told you have osteopenia or osteoporosis, or if you simply want to prevent bone density loss as you age, this episode unpacks exactly how you can stimulate new bone tissue safely. In this episode, we cover: Natalie's harrowing emergency back surgery at 39 and her inspiring journey to reclaim her physical confidence. The science behind OsteoStrong and how "osteogenic loading" triggers the central nervous system to build denser bones. Why building bone tissue safely requires extreme force (up to 7.2x your body weight) without the danger of actual impact. Why you only need 10 minutes once a week to stimulate bone growth, and why adequate rest is critical for recovery. How complementary therapies like Red Light (to stimulate osteoblasts), PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) mats, and vibration plates support cellular health and pain relief. The difference between traditional DEXA scans and radiation-free REMS ultrasound technology (EchoLight) for measuring bone quality. Welcome back to Midlife Strategies for Badass Women! Today, host Sue Willoughby sits down with Preeti Suri, the founder and CEO of AdventureTripr. Growing up in India and building a fast-paced corporate career in finance in London, Preeti spent the first 35 years of her life believing she simply wasn't an outdoorsy person. After relocating to Seattle with a six-month-old baby, she found herself battling severe postpartum depression and carrying an extra 60 pounds. Looking for a way to heal, she started going on short neighborhood walks with her baby on her back. Those walks turned into hikes, and eventually, Preeti found herself standing at the summit of Mount Rainier on her son’s second birthday! Realizing that moving her body in nature was the ultimate tool for processing trauma and burnout, Preeti founded AdventureTripr—an online platform connecting beginner adventurers with vetted local guides for curated multi-day trips.
