“Trust God When Life Is Not What It Used to Be”

ob 29–30 places two very different seasons of Job’s life side by side. In chapter 29, Job remembers the past. His family was around him. His life was prosperous. People respected him. His words carried influence. He defended the poor, the widow, and the helpless. Then chapter 30 describes the painful present. The respected man is now mocked. His health is broken. His relationships have changed. His nights are filled with pain. And God seems silent. Job is living with the painful contrast between “what was” and “what is.” These chapters teach us to remember God’s past faithfulness without living in the past, to use seasons of influence to serve others, and to keep seeking God when life changes in ways we never expected. “Hold Your Integrity and Seek God’s Wisdom”

Job 27–28 moves from integrity to wisdom. In chapter 27, Job refuses to confess sins simply to satisfy his friends. He knows he is not perfect, but he will not admit to accusations he believes are false. Job also agrees that wickedness ultimately brings judgment. Temporary prosperity does not mean permanent security. Then chapter 28 asks a deeper question: “But where can wisdom be found?” Human beings can dig deep into the earth and discover hidden treasures, but true wisdom cannot be mined, purchased, or manufactured. God alone knows wisdom perfectly. The chapter ends with the answer: “The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.” Welcome to EveryDayWord — the daily podcast of Derrick J. “ God Is Greater Than We Can Measure”

Job 25–26 brings another short exchange between Bildad and Job. In chapter 25, Bildad emphasizes God’s greatness, holiness, and humanity’s weakness. His central question is important: How can a human being be righteous before God? But Bildad still does not address Job’s actual struggle. Then Job responds in chapter 26. He first points out how little help his friends have actually provided. After that, Job gives a magnificent description of God’s power over creation. Yet Job concludes that everything humans observe represents only the “mere edges of His ways.” In other words: What we understand about God is real— but it is only a small part of His greatness. These chapters teach us that humanity desperately needs righteousness before God, that correct truth should actually help hurting people, and that God is infinitely greater than what human beings can fully understand. “God Knows the Way I Take”

Job 22–24 brings another sharp exchange. In chapter 22, Eliphaz goes beyond suspicion and begins accusing Job of specific sins the text never says Job committed. In chapter 23, Job longs to find God and present his case. Yet in the middle of feeling unable to find Him, Job says: “He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.” Then chapter 24 returns to the problem of injustice. Job looks around and sees oppression, poverty, violence, and wrongdoing that do not seem to receive immediate judgment. These chapters teach us not to invent accusations, to trust God when we cannot trace Him, and to remember that delayed justice is not forgotten justice. “God’s Justice Is Bigger Than What We See”

Job 20–21 continues the argument between Job and his friends. In chapter 20, Zophar insists that wicked people may prosper briefly, but judgment eventually comes. That basic truth is biblical. The problem is that Zophar continues aiming the warning at Job as though Job’s suffering proves he is wicked. Then Job answers in chapter 21. Job points out something his friends’ simple formula cannot explain: Sometimes wicked people prosper. They grow old. Their families flourish. Their businesses succeed. They may live comfortably for many years. Job is not saying God approves of them. He is saying that present circumstances do not always reveal God’s final judgment. These chapters teach us not to measure righteousness by wealth or suffering, not to confuse temporary prosperity with God’s approval, and to remember that God’s final justice is greater than what we can presently see. “ My Redeemer Lives”

Job 18–19 gives us one of the strongest contrasts in the book so far. In chapter 18, Bildad speaks again. He describes the terrible end of the wicked and clearly intends Job to see himself in the description. His words contain truth about the ultimate danger of wickedness, but he again wrongly assumes Job’s suffering proves Job is wicked. Then chapter 19 gives us Job’s response. Job feels attacked by his friends. He feels abandoned by family. He feels forgotten by people who once respected him. He even feels as though God has turned against him. Yet in the middle of that darkness, Job says: “For I know that my Redeemer lives.” Job cannot explain his circumstances. But he still reaches toward hope. These chapters teach us not to weaponize truth against hurting people, to recognize the loneliness suffering can produce, and to hold onto the living Redeemer when almost everything else seems to disappear. “Hold On When Hope Feels Far Away”

Job 15–17 takes us into the second round of conversations between Job and his friends. Eliphaz speaks again, but his words become even harsher. Instead of comforting Job, he increasingly treats Job as though his suffering proves wickedness. Job answers that his friends have become “miserable comforters.” His suffering is already severe, and their accusations make it worse. Yet in the middle of Job’s anguish, something important appears. Job says: “Surely even now my witness is in heaven.” Job feels misunderstood on earth, but he still believes there is Someone in heaven who knows the truth. Chapter 17 then shows Job reaching another emotional low. His strength is disappearing. His friends have disappointed him. Death feels near. Hope seems difficult to find. Yet Job still refuses to abandon his integrity. These chapters teach us to be careful with accusations, to avoid becoming miserable comforters, to remember that God sees us when others misunderstand us, and to keep walking faithfully even when hope feels far away. “Trust God With the Questions”

Job 13–14 shows Job becoming more direct. He tells his friends that their explanations are not helping him. He would rather speak directly to God. Job still does not understand his suffering, but he refuses to walk away from God. Then chapter 14 turns toward the shortness of human life. Job reflects on suffering, death, and whether there can be hope beyond the grave. In the middle of his questions, he asks: “If a man dies, shall he live again?” The rest of Scripture will ultimately answer that question through Jesus Christ.
