The Brain Changers™

Rebekah King and Yvonne King

The Brain Changers™ is a podcast all about learning how to revolutionise the way you think and live by mastering your mind. We're your hosts, mother and daughter duo, Rebekah and Yvonne King. Our goal is to empower you to live the life you choose by teaching you how to retrain your brain. Some people tell us it sounds like 'mind-control' and you know what? It is! But not in the way you might think. This is about taking control of your own mind - that's right! YOU taking control, rather than letting your mind control you, so you can choose to live a life free from the expectations of others. No matter what you've experienced in the past, you can create positive change and transformation by learning how to master your mind. We know this because we've done it. Between us, we've survived cancer and stroke, and eliminated debilitating anxiety and depression. We've turned our pain into purpose through the power of our mind and we're now here to support and guide you to do the same. In this podcast we share valuable insights about how your brain works, why you think, say, and do the things you do, how to begin the process of change, and why it's necessary. Because we know that when you change your mind, you change your life.

Ep 50 | When Life Doesn't Go To Plan: What Pressure, Reinvention and Trading Reveal About Who You Really Are - with Louise Bedford

This is our 50th episode of The Brain Changers, and we couldn't think of a better guest to mark the occasion.   Louise Bedford is one of Australia's most respected voices in trading psychology and behavioural finance. She's a trader, mentor, keynote speaker and bestselling author of six books, and for more than three decades she's helped thousands of people understand not only how markets work, but how they themselves work under pressure.   But this episode goes well beyond trading.   Because Louise's work has always sat at the intersection of identity, reinvention, and human behaviour. And in this conversation, that's exactly where we go.   We talk about the small decisions that quietly redirect entire lives. About the moments when life ignores your plan. About what it means to outgrow a version of yourself, and why that often feels more like grief than growth.   Louise shares what decades of working with people in high-pressure environments has taught her about how we really behave when the stakes are high. And she offers something rare - the kind of clarity that only comes from someone who has genuinely lived through uncertainty and come out the other side with something to say.   This is also a personal episode for us. Louise is partly responsible for the direction Yvonne and I have taken in our lives, and in this conversation, you'll hear why.   In this episode you'll hear: •       Why life changes in whispers, not always in explosions, and why we rarely recognise the turning points in real time •       Why pressure doesn't create character… it reveals it •       What it actually means to outgrow a version of yourself, and why it can feel like grief •       The patterns people fall back on when things get hard, and what separates those who adapt from those who stay stuck •       Why most people don't have a strategy problem, they have a pattern problem •       The stories people tell themselves about money, capability and success, and why those stories show up everywhere, not just in trading •       Why asking for help is a sign of intelligence, not weakness •       Why clarity is often the reward for movement, not the prerequisite for it   About Louise Bedford Louise Bedford is a trader, mentor, keynote speaker and bestselling author of six books on trading psychology and behavioural finance. She is the founder of the Trading Game Mentor Program and host of the Talking Trading podcast. Louise holds degrees in Psychology and Business and has spent more than 30 years helping people understand themselves and the markets.   Stay in touch with Louise: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TradingGame/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheTradingGame LinkedIn: https://au.linkedin.com/in/louise-bedford Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/tradinggame Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tradinggame.com.au/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tradinggame.com.au Email: louise@tradinggame.com.au Listen to Louise on her podcast, Talking Trading, at www.talkingtrading.com and on all major podcast platforms. Ep 49 | Maybe this is as good as it gets - the belief keeping you stuck

Have you ever caught yourself thinking maybe this is just as good as it gets, and then immediately justified it with something going on in the world? In this rich, go-deep conversation, Rebekah King sits down with Adelaide's leading NLP coach and trainer Toni Everard to explore why so many capable, intelligent people stay stuck in jobs, relationships, and lives they've quietly outgrown. Toni unpacks the hidden role of emotional neglect in childhood (even in "good" childhoods), why our nervous system fights change even when we consciously want it, and how the real barrier to having what we want is rarely external. If you've done the therapy, the coaching, the self-development work, and there's still something a little sticky you can't quite shift, this episode is for you.   About Toni Everard Toni Everard is one of Adelaide's most respected NLP coaches and trainers, with over a decade in her own business and 20 years of prior experience in accounting and finance. Known for getting quickly beneath the surface and helping clients make changes that stick — personally and professionally — Toni works with coaches, practitioners, leaders in blue-collar industries, business owners, and corporate teams. She has a particular gift for helping people identify the unresolved emotional patterns quietly running the show in their business and their life. Her debut book, The Turning Point, is out now (order online at tonieverard.com/the-turning-point) Key Takeaways "Maybe this is as good as it gets" is a belief, not a fact.  Emotional neglect doesn't always look like trauma.  We abandon ourselves to protect others.  Your identity will die to be right.  It's not about blaming your parents.  Change happens in layers.  Episode Chapters 00:00 — Introduction to Toni Everard and NLP Coaching 02:21 — The Belief of "This Is As Good As It Gets" 04:13 — Emotional Influences and Childhood Experiences 08:14 — Addressing Unresolved Childhood Issues 12:54 — The Impact of Parental Relationships 20:51 — The Importance of Emotional Safety 27:05 — Fear of Change in Successful Individuals 30:01 — Personal Growth and Abandoning Self for Others 35:21 — The Dread of Mondays: Recognising Your Value in Work 39:07 — External Structures and Self-Worth 42:08 — Integrating Inner Power and Authority 45:56 — The Turning Point: Shifting Perspectives 54:54 — Finding Joy and Resolving Tension 01:00:05 — Business as a Vehicle for Personal Growth   Resources Mentioned 📖 The Turning Point by Toni Everard — tonieverard.com/the-turning-point   Connect with Toni Website: tonieverard.com Instagram: @tonieverard LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/tonieverard   Here's 3 ways you can work with Rebekah King  1. 1:1 Coaching – Deep, personalised work to shift the beliefs, patterns and pressures that hold you back, so you can lead with clarity and confidence. https://www.moonbeammonday.com.au/one-on-one-coaching 2. Ep 48 - Why you can't seem to change no matter how hard you try

You're following the plan. You're doing the work. You're showing up consistently. And somewhere in the back of your mind, there's still a nagging question — why hasn't anything actually changed? In this episode, Yvonne shares something from her own experience learning to trade shares — a world where the rules are clear, the strategy is defined, and there is nowhere to hide. She followed the plan, took consistent action, and still found herself hesitating after a loss and overriding the strategy after a win. Same pattern. Different circumstances. What she discovered — and what this episode unpacks — is that the problem was never the plan. It was the level at which she was trying to change things. Most of what people try works at the level of behaviour. And it helps, for a while. But if the belief and identity underneath haven't shifted, the behaviour keeps defaulting back. You end up white-knuckling your way through the same patterns, wondering why effort alone isn't enough. This episode is about why. And what to do instead. Topics discussed ·        ·       Why doing more of the same thing keeps producing the same result ·       Yvonne's experience learning to trade — and what it revealed about belief and identity ·       The three levels at which we operate: behaviour, belief, and identity ·       Why most tools and strategies only work at the surface level ·       What it actually means when you override your own plan ·       How the brain defaults to what feels familiar — especially under pressure ·       Why real change feels different from trying harder ·       The question worth asking when effort alone isn't working Links and Resources Work with Rebekah If you've been doing the work — therapy, coaching, all of it — and still not getting the results you want, it might be time for a conversation. The work Rebekah does with clients goes to the deeper levels: the belief underneath the behaviour, and the identity that's been running the show. Ep 47 | If the tools worked alone, you would be done by now

In this episode, we're addressing a question a lot of people don't say out loud… If I'm doing all the right things, why hasn't anything really changed? You've read the books, listened to the podcasts, tried the strategies, but you still find yourself back in the same patterns. This episode explains why that keeps happening. We break down the difference between surface-level tools and what actually drives behaviour underneath. Because most tools give you something to do, but they don't change the way you think. And if that part doesn't shift, the pattern doesn't either. So you end up managing the same thoughts, the same reactions, and the same habits, just in slightly different ways. If you've ever felt like you're trying everything and still not getting anywhere, this will help you see what's missing. And once you understand that, you can stop searching for the next tool… and start working at the level where real change actually happens. Topics discussed: Why surface-level tools don't create lasting change The difference between knowing something and actually changing it How the brain mistakes learning for doing Why patterns keep repeating (even when you're "doing the work") Real-life examples: overthinking, anxiety, and boundaries How underlying beliefs drive behaviour Why pressure and uncertainty expose your default patterns The question that shifts you from surface-level fixes to real change Links and resources Join the Mind Masters Collective https://www.moonbeammonday.com.au/mind-masters Book a Connection Call with Rebekah to find out how coaching can help you https://bit.ly/connect-with-moonbeam What's in Your Suitcase? Ep 46 - How To Live With Uncertainty When The World Is Falling Apart

In this episode of The Brain Changers, we're talking about uncertainty - what it is, why it affects people so differently, and what's actually going on in your mind when everything feels unstable. With constant news about the economy, jobs, and global events, it's easy to assume your reaction is coming from what's happening around you. But that doesn't explain why one person moves forward clearly, while another spirals. We break down what your brain is doing when it doesn't have clear answers, why it fills the gaps with worst-case scenarios, and how that creates the "what if" loop so many people get stuck in. More importantly, we look at what these reactions reveal, because uncertainty doesn't create the response, it exposes patterns that are already there. If things have felt unsettled lately, even if you're not directly affected by world events, this episode will help you see why. And once you understand that, you can stop trying to control everything around you and start focusing on what actually moves you forward. Topics discussed: Why uncertainty feels so intense right now What your brain does when it can't predict what's next Why two people can respond completely differently to the same situation How worst-case thinking and "what if" loops are formed The patterns uncertainty exposes in your thinking and behaviour Why surface-level strategies don't last How to shift your focus back to what's in your control Links and resources We're giving you free access to our Reset + Recharge mini course. Ep 45 - Level Up In Real Life: Leadership Lessons from a 12-Year-Old

What if the clearest thinking on confidence, leadership, and resilience you heard all year came from a 12-year-old? I first came across Elliott Lea at the Victor Harbour TEDx event, where at just 11 years old he had a room full of adults hanging on every word. His talk wasn't about becoming a leader someday, it was about the small, everyday choices that build leadership right now. When I heard him speak, I thought, "This is exactly what I coach adults on every single day!" In this episode, I sit down with Elliot (now 12 and one of the youngest TEDx speakers in the world) for a conversation that is just as relevant to adults as it is to kids. Whether you're a parent, a leader, or someone who has ever talked themselves out of doing something hard, this episode is for you. What You'll Hear in This Episode •    Why real-world wins feel better than digital ones, and why that matters for how we build confidence •    The story of how a 9-year-old Elliot was asked to book a restaurant table, and what that moment taught him about capability •    The difference between levelling up in a game versus levelling up in real life •    What good guidance actually looks like, and why doing everything for your child (or your team) works against them •    The house rule Elliot lives by: "create before you consume" •    Why most of the time, it's our mindset holding us back, not our ability •    Elliot's challenge for adults Standout Quote "Parents, if you do everything, you're playing for us, and we never learn to win on our own." — Elliott Lea About the Guest Elliott Lea is one of the youngest people in the world to give a TEDx talk. At just 11 years old, Elliott took to the stage at the Victor Harbour TEDx event to share his message about leadership, confidence, and what it really means to level up in real life. He speaks with a clarity and wisdom well beyond his years, and has a passion for helping others discover what they're truly capable of. Ep 44 | You have good judgement. So why don't you trust it?

You're good at your job. You make decisions all day long. And yet somewhere in the middle of a meeting - or on the drive home, replaying a conversation that finished hours ago - there's that question running underneath everything... Am I actually getting this right? This episode is about where that question comes from. And why working harder on your confidence hasn't made it go away. Ep 43 | The Most Dangerous Thing You Believe About Yourself

Most of us have a label for what's going on with us. "I'm a perfectionist." "My anxiety." "I've always been a bit like this." And those descriptions feel accurate.  But at some point — for most of us without even noticing — the thing we were experiencing became the thing we decided we were. And once something becomes who you are, you stop asking whether it has to be true. In this solo episode, Rebekah explores what it actually costs to carry a label you've never examined. Not just the obvious cost, but the one that accumulates over years. The ceiling it puts on who you think you can be, and what you believe is possible for you. This is an honest conversation. And for a lot of women, it's one they've never had. In this episode: — Why identity labels feel permanent, and why that's not the same as being true — What it actually costs to manage something instead of resolving it — Why the women who have "done the work" are often still living inside the same story — How NLP works at the level where these labels actually live — Why change happens faster than most people expect, when you're working at the right level Timestamps 0:00 The labels we carry 2:00 When a description becomes an identity 6:00 What it actually costs 10:00 The woman who had been "anxious" for fifteen years 14:00 Why it feels permanent, and why it doesn't have to be 17:00 Free live masterclass Free live masterclass: You Know Better.
