USS Archerfish (SSN678) 1978 – 1986

The podcast presented an interesting perspective on life on a submarine. This is the very first podcast I listen to. When I first heard about this idea to interview a bunch of old guys who served together 40 years ago, I couldn’t imagine how the story could be woven together into something I wanted to listen to. Peter and Neal exceeded my expectations on this series. It was a very entertaining series. Editorial comment, in the first episode I believe Neal referred the the submarine as having a propeller. Ships have a screw and aircraft have a propeller. Thanks for putting this together.

Both my father and grandfather served for the Navy on submarines, but I’ve never fully understood their day to day life until this podcast. I had tears in my eyes several time throughout my listen of season 1: tears of joy, laughter, and sadness for not having this podcast available decades ago. It’s entertaining, educational, and leaves me so excited for season 2.

was not in the military, and when I heard about this podcast about life on a sub, I was intrigued. I hadn't thought about it prior, but they were mainly 20-somethings cruising around the world in a nuclear reactor. The funny stories are great, but I was really blown away when I heard about the qualifications that they needed in order to do their jobs and how deadly seriously they took that part of their jobs. I especially liked the Monte Carlo episodes which are both funny and serious. This series is a love letter for the time they served.

I recently binge listened to this podcast series while on a road trip. The story was very interesting, the editing and paste of the stories as well done, and the explanations of Navy culture really help me better understand the topic. At the end of episode one, I was feeling a little jealous that I wasn’t on the boat with them, as it sounded like a lot of fun. Definitely worth downloading and listening to, Invisible inspirational for me to record my own life events.
