Teaching Tech Episode 10 - YouTube for Podcasters

Should your podcast be on YouTube? Yes — but do it right. In Episode 10 of Teaching Tech with Professor Cannetti, we're exploring why YouTube requires a different strategy from traditional podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Simply uploading a two-hour podcast with static cover artwork and the same title from your audio feed isn't necessarily going to help new audiences discover your show. We'll explore how to use full episodes, clips, YouTube Shorts, playlists, chapters, thumbnails, video descriptions, pinned comments, and end screens to create a better experience for YouTube viewers. I'll also explain why the difference between an audio podcast, a video podcast, and a YouTube show matters — and how podcasters can adapt their content for YouTube without completely changing what makes their show unique. The takeaway: YouTube isn't just somewhere to store your podcast. It's a discovery platform, and it deserves its own strategy. Start with what you have. Upgrade with purpose. Teaching Tech Episode 9 - Livestreaming

Livestreaming is podcasting without a safety net. When you're recording, you can stop, restart, or fix mistakes in post-production. But when you're LIVE, your audience sees and hears everything — including the technical problems. In this episode of Teaching Tech with Professor Cannetti, we're breaking down the technology, equipment, and workflows behind building a reliable livestreaming setup. Whether you're livestreaming a podcast, interview, class, YouTube show, or special event, I'll walk you through the cameras, microphones, video switchers, audio routing, software, and monitoring you need to understand before hitting that LIVE button. **In this episode, you'll learn:** - The differences between recording and livestreaming - How video and audio signals travel through your setup - When you actually need a video switcher - How multi-camera livestreaming works - What the RØDECaster Video S can do for creators - Why audio routing matters more than you think - How to switch cameras without distracting your audience - Using graphics, lower thirds, and title cards effectively - How Stream Deck can simplify your workflow - Why monitoring your outgoing stream is essential - What to test before every livestream - Common mistakes and unnecessary complications to avoid I'll also share how I approach livestreaming as a solo creator, where you're often the host, producer, camera operator, audio engineer, technical director, and IT department all at once. Don't build the most complicated livestreaming setup you can afford. Because when you're LIVE, reliability matters more than complexity. Teaching Tech Episode 8 - Make 10 Posts

One podcast episode can become an entire week of content. In Episode 8 of Teaching Tech with Professor Cannetti, we're talking about how to get more value out of the content you're already creating. Instead of recording a podcast, publishing it once, and moving on, I'll show you how to turn that single recording into YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikToks, quote graphics, carousels, newsletters, and behind-the-scenes posts. We'll also explore how tools like OpusClip and Riverside can make repurposing easier, why AI shouldn't make all your editorial decisions, and how Substack can help you build a deeper connection with your audience. I'll walk through a practical 10-piece content framework you can adapt to your own workflow. The takeaway: Don't think one recording equals one post. Think one recording equals one week of content. You don't need to create more from scratch. You need to get more out of what you've already created. For episode recaps, resources, and practical creator checklists, join the Teaching Tech Substack. Teaching Tech Episode 7 - Bonus

I made a YouTube video about why nobody clicks on your content. And then nobody clicked on mine. The irony isn't lost on me. In this bonus episode of **Teaching Tech with Professor Cannetti**, I'm doing something a little different. No teleprompter. No carefully prepared script. Just an honest conversation about what happens when you spend hours creating something, follow all the supposed rules of YouTube, and nobody watches. I've invested in the cameras, lighting, microphones, editing, thumbnails, titles, hooks, and a consistent publishing schedule. I've even set myself a goal of creating **52 videos in 52 weeks**. But what if I've been so focused on following the YouTube formula that I've lost some of what makes me a good teacher and storyteller? As a professor, I can spend hours in a classroom teaching without a script. As a podcaster, I can have spontaneous conversations without a teleprompter. So why am I trying to force myself into a different format for YouTube? In this episode, I'm talking about: - The irony of getting zero views on a video about getting views - Why YouTube analytics can affect creators emotionally - The frustration of putting hours into content nobody watches - Whether teleprompters are holding back my natural delivery - The difference between teaching in a classroom and speaking to a camera - Why there might not be one perfect YouTube formula - My experiment with 52 videos in 52 weeks - Why I'm considering a more conversational approach for future episodes - The importance of continuing to create even when nobody is watching **The takeaway:** Sometimes you can do everything you're supposed to do and still not get the results you want. That doesn't mean you should stop creating. I'm still figuring this out, and I'm bringing you along for the process. Have you ever spent hours making something that nobody watched? I'd genuinely love to hear about it in the comments. Subscribe for more Teaching Tech, creator workflows, podcasting, filmmaking, editing, and the realities of building something from scratch. Teaching Tech Episode 7 - Thumbnails and Intro

Why does nobody click your content? In this episode of Teaching Tech, Professor Cannetti breaks down the real reason great videos, podcasts, and creator projects often get ignored: the packaging. Your title, thumbnail, and opening hook are not afterthoughts. They are part of the concept. A strong video with a weak title and cluttered thumbnail can lose to an average video that clearly earns the click. I’ll walk through the mistake that led me to revise one thumbnail nine different times, why that still did not solve the real problem, and the checklist I now use before publishing. In this episode, we cover: • Why titles and thumbnails are part of the creative process • Why “Episode 7” is not a real title • How to make a title specific enough for a stranger to understand • The thumbnail checklist: focal point, contrast, emotion, phone test, and visual anchor • Why endless revisions are usually fear disguised as craftsmanship • The difference between curiosity and clickbait • Why the first 30 seconds of your video are part of the hook too Main takeaway: The title is the promise. The thumbnail is the hook. The first 30 seconds decide if anyone stays. If this helped you make tech make sense, please like the video and subscribe to the channel. Teaching Tech Episode 6 - Branding and Brand Identity

Branding is not a logo. It's not a font or a color palette you picked because it looked good on a mood board. Branding is how your show looks, sounds, feels, and gets remembered — and you can build all of that without being a designer, a composer, or an audio engineer. In this episode I break down what brand identity actually means for podcasters and creators, why your job is to direct the work rather than produce every piece of it yourself, and where AI tools like Canva fit in the process — and where they don't. I also talk about hiring artists for logos and music, what files you need to ask for when you commission a logo (most beginners never ask), and the revision trap that kills more launches than bad gear ever does. Nine minor tweaks before anyone's seen your thumbnail isn't craftsmanship. It's anxiety wearing the costume of craftsmanship. Set a revision limit. Ship it. Let real data tell you what works. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 — Branding is not a logo 0:24 — What your brand actually is 0:50 — You don't have to make it — you have to direct it 1:20 — Where AI and Canva fit (and where they don't) 1:56 — Why I hire artists instead of doing it myself 2:44 — How to treat creative relationships like long-term partnerships 2:59 — What files to ask for when you commission a logo 3:51 — Branding isn't only visual — your show has a sound 4:33 — The revision trap: anxiety wearing the costume of craftsmanship 6:15 — Consistency is what turns assets into an actual brand 6:38 — The whole lesson in four lines YouTube Link #TeachingTech #PodcastBranding #BrandIdentity #ContentCreation #Podcasting #LogoDesign #PodcastTips #CreatorBranding #SYWTBAG #SoYouWantToBeAGeek #PodcastGrowth #BuildYourBrand #CreativeDirection #Canva #AIDesign TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sywtbag?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sywtbag/?locale=us&hl=am-et Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/so-you-want-to-be-a-geek/id1758179991 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5uEnbJaVsaoeezUwj7oEoB?si=fc2b17d719fb4eb2 TeePublic: http://tee.pub/lic/SYWTBAG https://www.riverside.fm/?via=michael-cannetti https://www.riverside.fm/?via=sywtbag Substack: https://substack.com/@sywtbag https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UCUq40V5XzKruaVRLYG_TXEA/collaboration/UC5TaNcX92FPxaSw1bgBB7RQ

So You Want To Be a Geek about Trading Cards!

What makes someone a trading card collector? And how has the hobby changed from ripping packs as a kid to grading, online marketplaces, Pokémon, sports cards, and cards worth thousands of dollars? In this episode of So You Want To Be A Geek, I visit Collectors Corner of West Islip to dive into the world of trading cards and the community that surrounds them. We talk about how people get started collecting, what makes certain cards valuable, the importance of grading, sports cards vs. TCGs, how eBay and online selling have changed the hobby, and some of the coolest cards and collections that have come through the shop. More importantly, we look at something you can’t always get from buying cards online: the local card shop experience— a place where collectors can meet, trade, learn, play, and geek out over the things they love. Whether you collect baseball cards, football cards, basketball cards, Pokémon, graded cards, or you’re just curious about why trading cards have become such a massive hobby, this episode is for you.
