Episode 10: Rock musician/poet Mish Shell (Mish N Possible)

And here we are! Episode 10 - the Season 1 finale of my podcast, P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh, and who better to wrap up this season on a very energetic, positive note than spectacular rock musician and poet Mish Shell (Mish N Possible).Mish (and her musical Mum, Annette) joined us in the studio to talk about all things music. And we were treated to a never-before-heard song, Earth, Air, Water, Fire, featuring Mish's bold, new style of music... and a very cool, positive poem. When Mish is not writing and recording, she is on the road performing at festivals such as Mushroom Valley Festival, Wintermoon Festival and it's sister festival Springfest - and, of course, at many gigs and festivals in her home region, the Sunshine Coast. She's on the road with her puppy dogs, Little Black and Wiggles, in her trusty car '5-star Camry'. Mish Shell is a powerhouse performer who struts the stage with her bass guitar. She says that when she is holding her bass guitar "it feels like home". It is my great pleasure to present to you, Mish Shell (Mish N Possible) on my Season 1 finale. Season 1, Episode 9: Lou Steer, a Sydney-based performance poet, Radio Skid Row broadcaster and lawyer

Lou Steer, Sydney-based performance poet, lawyer and presenter on the community radio station, Radio Skid Row, is my very entertaining guest this week on my podcast, P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh. Lou is a very colourful performance poet. She and husband, Brian, are great supporters of anything creative - theatre, music, performance poetry, rap music, poetry, young performers. And they have travelled the world seeking out and being involved in amazing creative events, Lou is also a staunch supporter of human rights, so Sydney's Radio Skid Row, which gives a voice to more than 40 different cultures, is a great fit for her passions. We met as members of the invitation-only online poetry group, Prompted Prose, which has some 300 members all throughout Australia. We only met voice to voice on this podcast chat. But, we are both booked to go to the Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup Challenge in early September, so will finally meet in person there. Episode 8: Melbourne-based poets, Dev Vedant and Irralee Jones

This is an exciting episode for me on my podcast, P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh, because it is my first phoner chat... and with poets... from Melbourne! Dev Vedant and Irralee Jones are the curators of the (invite-only) online poetry group, Prompted Prose, which has more than 300 members from throughout Australia. And, they are the founders of the regular spoken-word event, Melbourne Morphemes! Each of these very inspiring creatives, share 2 of their poems and talk about their love of poetry, their inspirations, and, life in general. Both openly admit that they never thought they would be posting out prompts to poets throughout Australia or co-hosting a major regular spoken-word, performance poetry event in Melbourne. Dev Vedant joined the original version of Prompted Prose (The Dirty Thirty Challenge ... yes... writing a poem for the 30 days of April) some 2 years ago just to read other poets' works. His beautiful partner, Ella, encouraged him to join the sharing and post his poems. His career is an important one, guiding international uni students to accessing our Australian health care system. Oh, and he's also a cricket tragic! As is my producer/editor James McKay so they also talked about the heydays of cricket in India and Australia... and as a sports journalist for many years during my career, I found their chat very entertaining. Dev and a mate actually run a podcast called 'Cricket Therapy'. Irralee Jones has been writing poetry since she was about 12 and wasn't shy about sharing her poetry. She has been published on many platforms and joined The Dirty Thirty Challenge some 8 years ago. The most-exciting news is that her first poetry collection, Lost in the Woods, has just been published on Amazon! It features 99 poems... yes, I asked that question. Irralee also has a very important career as a child carer and many of her beautiful kids inspire her fantastical works. This is a fun episode. I joined the Dirty Thirty Challenge just over 4 years ago and this is how we 3 met... online. We've just heard each other's voices over the phone. The next challenge is to meet in person! Episode 7 features the founders of Nu4U Creative, the amazing Jo and Colin Male

I met Nu4U founders, Jo Male and Colin Male, many years ago to learn more about their beach trash-to-treasure endeavours. The beautiful jewelery they have created from plastics, fish hooks, ropes, netting - is all that rubbish we pick up every day on our beach walks. And, Jo researched for ages to perfect the perfect eco-resin to make this beautiful jewelry. Her mad-keen fisherman husband, Colin, was with us in the studio. P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh. Episode 6 with author Dr Sarah Pye

Australian author and environmentalist, Dr Sarah Pye, is my guest this week on my podcast, P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh. A trip to Borneo with her daughter, Amber Kai, in 2012 changed the trajectory of Sarah's life. That's when this amazing woman with a warm and adventurous spirit, met Malaysian ecologist Dr Wong Siew Te and the sun bears he's saving from extinction. She asked Dr Wong what she could do to help him save the rainforest. He replied: "Do what you do best." And for journalist Sarah, that meant writing. 'Saving Sun Bears' is her first book - a biography of Dr Wong and his work. Then followed a series of children's books, The Wildlife Wong series, then school workshops and speaking engagements, regular video talks with Dr Wong and other ecologists from around the world, and project travel trips to Dr Wong's Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre in Sepilok, near Sandakan. There are more exciting children's books about wildlife on the way. Sarah hopes to encourage kids (and adults) to become citizen scientists - eco warriors. Sarah's website, sarahrpye.com, features so much amazing information about her books, her podcasts with Dr Wong, cool experiments (like how to build an orangutan nest), book reviews by kids, school workshops and speaking engagements... so much more. This week's episode of P.O. Box 45 with Wendyoh features prolific award-winning songwriter Ethan Roberts from the band, Favourite Kid. For the past 8 years, Ethan has performed under the stage name of Aspy Jones, but with sister Jamie (trumpet) and brother Saul (bass and back-up vocals) joining him on stage for the last year or so, the band name has changed to Favourite Kid... a funny heads-up to sibling rivalry. This year, Ethan Roberts was awarded the first-ever Queensland Music Awards' Dalwood-Whyte Foundation Scholarship for a Queensland-based contemporary musician who lives with a disability. This comes with a $15,000 sponsorship which the band will use to produce and launch their first-ever album as Favourite Kid!!! Ethan has also just celebrated his graduation of a Bachelor of Contemporary Music degree from the University of Canberra, studied through Southbank TAFE. Ethan has autism and anxiety and he uses his music, lyrics and stage performances to talk openly on the subject and warmly welcome conversations about living and thriving with these gifts. In my previous role as a community radio broadcaster, I have followed Ethan's journey from it's beginnings with his first single release 8 years ago when he was just 17. It was so much fun to catch up with Ethan in the podcast studio this time. He is an inspiring human and an awesome singer-songwriter and ambassador for people living with a disability. Her Instagram page mandy_spooner features really interesting videos and tips about how to reduce plastic usage and links to clever Australian companies doing just that. And her information-packed e-book, 'Living Green - a guide to creating a sustainable lifestyle' is available online. Mandy's mantra is: Just change one thing at a time! That way, it's not an overwhelming goal. She also hosts workshops around the region. In her spare time, she organises regular beach clean-ups, because that's where a lot of our plastics rubbish ends up. Her beautiful new book 'Greetings from Paradise' is a tribute to our love of the beach and how it has played a big role in our Australian story. Filled with beautiful photographs of Sunshine Coast beaches, particularly from Coolum and Yaroomba to Noosa, this book also shares the story of Kerry's own childhood love of family beach holidays and the stories of a number of families who holidayed at Coolum Beach caravan park every year for decades.
