    Episode 6 - Ben Lopez

    "We lived on top of this hill. There was an optical effect and it would usually happen around dusk with the light, where people were in the distance... You could actually see like seven streets down. It look like they were floating, like they were spirits. People would always say, 'Don't be afraid of them. Just let them do their thing.'" Ben Lopez is an established leader and consultant in the global DEIB space. Born in Mexico City, raised in Tucson and based in Los Angeles, Ben developed a deep expertise and data-driven solutions to help expand the talent pipeline and elevate Latine and BIPoC communities in the entertainment, media, and tech ecosystem. Ben's early entry into the industry was as a contributor to film festivals, labs and incubators, and as an independent producer, which gave him real-world insight into the challenges faced by Latine and BIPoC filmmakers. Via his work as a producer and as the leader of NALIP, he contributed to the growing viability of Latine stories in the United States and abroad. In 2022, Ben launched L21 Consulting to help the Latine and BIPoC community thrive in an increasingly complex entertainment and media ecosystem. More recently, L21 has partnered with McDonald’s Spotlight Dorado, a multi-year platform aimed at empowering and amplifying Latino voices across different industries, starting off with film. As producer and Founder/CEO of L21, Ben remains active in creating channels to fund, support, and drive content focused on diverse communities in Hollywood and beyond.     Episode 5 - Dani Fernandez

    "Last year, I hosted the official Oscars party for The Academy Museum. They had a special table reserved for me. But at some point I went and was working the party. I came back, and somebody was in my booth saying, "She was on your team." That shit terrifies me." Dani Fernandez is an LA based writer and actress. She wrote in the anthology series The Good Immigrant USA about her life as a Chicana in America. She has hosted for E! News, iHeartRadio, Nerdist, The CW, and Disney. She can be seen in animated form, playing herself, in Disney’s "Ralph Breaks the Internet" as well as SYFYs “The Great Debate". She recently wrote a Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy love story for DC Comics.     Episode 4 - Maggy Torres-Rodriguez

    "We were on a beach in Sarasota. I thought was being swarmed by sharks. I think everyone heard my screaming. I can still hear it. My whole family was ten feet away and they were like, 'DON'T MOVE.' I'm standing there, swarmed by stingrays." Maggy Torres-Rodriguez is a Cuban-American filmmaker from Miami, Florida. Maggy did the cinematography for a film that got into the Cannes Film Festival during her time in film school. She received her MFA in Screenwriting at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Maggy has spent the last 8 years as a producer/editor for various places, like HBO. Currently an adjunct professor at USC where she teaches feature screenwriting, she also freelances as a writer for Nickelodeon Animation and is an alum of the Sundance family.     Episode 3 - K. Broch

    "I loved the idea of being close to death. I just didn't care if I lived or died when I was driving. That's what made me such a good driver because I would do risky sh*t. Also, I was the only girl. I didn't give a f*ck." K. Broch (like the pins Abuelas wear) is a queer, mixed, dark comedy writer from West Michigan. As an organization queen, she's been a producer on several short films, along with her podcast, She Said...Let's! which empowers women in film & TV. K. reflects on her young life in street racing, her near-death experience, and her complicated relationship with her parents.
