In this episode, we’re doing a full gut motility masterclass and breaking down what motility actually is, why it matters so much for digestion, and how sluggish movement through the digestive tract can keep symptoms coming back over and over again. We’ll walk through the major systems involved in motility, including the migrating motor complex, stomach emptying, intestinal transit, and bowel regularity, along with the factors that can interfere with each one. We’ll also cover practical strategies for improving motility through meal timing, movement, hydration, nutrition, stress support, and the supplements we commonly use when someone needs additional help. If you feel like you’re constantly bloated, backed up, dealing with incomplete bowel movements, or stuck in a cycle where SIBO keeps returning after treatment, this episode will help you understand why motility matters so much and what you can start doing to improve it.

A lot of people with chronic bloating, IBS, SIBO, reflux, or food sensitivities get stuck in a cycle of removing more and more foods just to keep their symptoms under control. And while diets like low FODMAP can be really helpful temporarily, the goal isn’t to stay restricted forever. In this episode, we’re breaking down how to gradually rebuild your gut microbiome and expand your food tolerance without constantly triggering major flare-ups. We’ll explain why your microbiome plays such an important role in digestion, inflammation, immune function, and food tolerance, why “healthy” high-fiber foods can sometimes make you feel worse at first, and how to know when your gut is actually ready for more variety. We’ll also walk you through the progression we use with different types of fibers and microbiome-supportive foods, starting with gentler options like polyphenols and slowly working toward more fermentable foods like resistant starches, FOS, inulin, and fermented foods. If you feel like every time you try to “eat healthier” you somehow end up more bloated, gassy, or uncomfortable, this episode will help you understand why that happens and how to start rebuilding your tolerance the right way.

    17: What is a Herxheimer/Die-Off Reaction?

Interested in working with us 1:1? 👩🏼‍💻 If you’re tired of guessing and want a personalized plan to figure out what’s actually driving your gut issues, apply for our 1:1 coaching program below: 👉 https://atlasfunctionalwellness.com/apply-now Follow me & come say hi! 🤠 📲 Follow me on Instagram 🕺🏻 Follow me on TikTok 📹 Follow me on Youtube On today’s episode, we’re talking all about Herxheimer reactions, commonly referred to as “die-off” reactions, and what people may experience when starting certain antimicrobial protocols. Some people notice a temporary flare in symptoms after starting things like antibiotics or herbal antimicrobials, especially when they’re working through gut imbalances such as bacterial or fungal overgrowth. These reactions are often described as an increase in inflammation or symptoms while the body is adjusting to treatment. Symptoms people may experience can include: • Bloating • Fatigue & brain fog • Constipation and/or diarrhea • Acid reflux • Nausea • Headaches • Skin issues like acne, hives, or rashes • Flu-like symptoms such as body aches or chills In this episode, we break down what may be happening, what symptoms can show up, and how to tell the difference between a temporary adjustment and a sign that your protocol may simply be too aggressive. We also talk about practical ways to support your body during this process so you’re not just forcing yourself to suffer through a miserable protocol. Because when it comes to gut healing, more intense does not always mean more effective. And it’s important not to automatically assume every new or worsening symptom is “die-off.” Sometimes it can be a sign that something about the protocol needs to be adjusted. The goal is to make progress while keeping your body as supported and stable as possible along the way. I hope you enjoy! 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗨𝗦?
