    The Darkness Before Dawn

    We’re talking Episode 20, “The Darkness Before Dawn,” and WOW are we ready for the Digimon Emperor arc finale! Kimeramon is completely out of control, Ken is finally starting to realize just how far he’s gone, and Wormmon makes the huge decision to help Davis bring the Emperor’s flying fortress down from the inside. But the moment that had us the most excited was Davis discovering the mysterious golden Digi-Egg and unlocking Veemon’s incredible new Armor Digivolution: Magnamon!     Run Yolei Run

    Apparently Yolei woke up and chose absolute chaos. As the DigiDestined begin searching for the Digimon Emperor’s mysterious moving base, the episode starts laying the groundwork for a bigger, more connected story that has us really excited about where Season 2 is headed. But the real question is… what the heck got into Yolei?!     Ghost of a Chance

    This week’s episode takes us back to one of the most emotional pieces of season one as we revisit “Ghost of a Chance” and the return of Wizardmon. With the original DigiDestined and the new team coming together on August 1st, this episode is packed with nostalgia as everyone looks back on their first adventure, revisits familiar places from the Myotismon battle, and remembers just how much has happened since that first trip to the Digital World. But the real heart of this one is Kari, Gatomon, and the mysterious ghost haunting Fuji TV Station. Seeing Wizardmon again absolutely got us, especially as his connection to Gatomon and his sacrifice for Kari come rushing back while his cryptic warning points toward something much bigger still waiting for the DigiDestined.     20,000 Digi-Leagues Under the Sea

    We’re revisiting Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 16, “20,000 Digi-Leagues Under the Sea,” and Cody’s big lesson about lying is testing our patience almost as much as his fear of the ocean. We get what the episode is going for, but when the rest of the DigiDestined are literally in danger, Cody agonizing over whether it’s okay to lie for help feels a little too much like toddler-level morality, even for a kids anime. Thankfully, the episode gives us plenty of fun along the way, including the Digi-Egg of Reliability, Joe stepping in with some much-needed perspective, and the debut of Submarimon, which finally gives Cody and Armadillomon their underwater upgrade. It’s an okay episode with a cool new Armor Digivolution, a few laughs, and one moral dilemma that had us doing a whole lot of eye-rolling.     His Master’s Voice

    This one genuinely felt like a horror movie. Between Kari’s unsettling visions, the fog-covered world, the eerie Dark Ocean, and the looming presence of Dragomon, this episode gives us some of the creepiest and most fascinating world-building in the entire series. We absolutely loved the Cthulhu-esque atmosphere and the sense that something ancient and terrifying is lurking just beyond what the DigiDestined can understand. At the same time, this episode gives us some wonderful Kari and T.K. moments as their relationship continues to grow, leading to some of the sweetest and most memorable interactions of the season. We’re breaking down the mystery of the Dark Ocean, why the lack of a true resolution is both frustrating and fascinating, and why this might be one of the most haunting episodes Digimon ever produced.
