S2 Ep. 6 - What About the Native Jane Does? w/ Mary Kathryn Nagle

CW: This episode discusses sexual assault, domestic violence, violence against Indigenous women and Two-Spirit relatives, MMIP/MMIW, child abuse, murder, and other forms of gender-based violence. In response to the ongoing #Cornell7 / #Cornell57 conversation, Jana and Bobby are joined by attorney, educator, and playwright Mary Kathryn Nagle for a rage-fueled breakdown about the violence Native women and relatives experience and the systems that continue to fail them. They trace the connections between colonization, boarding schools, sexual violence, media representation, tribal jurisdiction, VAWA, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis. As always, believe and support survivors, hold perpetrators and leaders accountable, and find the people already doing this work in your own community and support them. S2 Ep. 5 - It's Giving Hunger Games

Jana and Bobby talk about the chaos of working in the arts, old-school YouTube, awkward social interactions, and the questionable things they once did for free. They get into how to welcome someone into a conversation, what to do when you forget a name, embracing awkwardness instead of spiraling, and learning from kids who simply ask for what they need. Plus: Bobby gets ghosted by a park dad, penis vocabulary across Indian Country, toboggans and pajoggans, Rocky Point, border politics, AI doom, and advice for a listener dealing with racism in her own family. S2 Ep. 4 - It's Giving Shart Chonies w/ Mary Hollis Inboden

Jana and Bobby are joined by Mary Hollis Inboden (Kevin Can F**k Himself, The Righteous Gemstones) for a conversation about Arkansas and learning a Boston accent. Then, naturally, things spiral into Boyz II Men fart allegations, sharting at the Mall of America, whether kids still think farts are funny, and what it means if they don’t. Mary, Jana, and Bobby talk about trusting the people whose feedback actually matters, embracing embarrassment instead of letting it control you, and creating the work you want to see rather than waiting for someone else to give you permission. Plus: Mark Ruffalo’s neck, an Amazon beadwork confession, and a reminder to support the artists making things in your own community. S2 Ep. 3 - It's Giving Deflated Titty w/ Beth Stelling

Jana and Bobby are joined by Beth Stelling (Rutherford Falls, Girl Daddy), getting sacred, silly, and deeply real as they remember Georgina Lightning, swap stories from their Rutherford Falls days, and somehow spiral into cat surgery, TIFF styling, Dayton tattoos, machetes, and the state of stand-up comedy. They also get into criticism, narcissism, learning how to take a note, and figuring out whose feedback is actually worth listening to. Then, they answer a listener’s question about how to support a friend through breast reduction surgery, with Jana sharing what helped during her own recovery and the gifts that can make those first few weeks a little easier. S2 Ep. 2 - It's Giving Slash Their Tires

Jana and Bobby are back, getting sacred, silly, and wildly off track as they ponder what happened when someone broke an ankle in the old days, talk Indigenous approaches to disability and community, mourn the emo poems lost to colonization, and somehow end up on birch bark porn. They also dive deep into dreams, premonitions, alternate dimensions, and the ways dreams can guide us through change. Then, they answer a listener’s question about crushes, mixed signals, getting left on read, and whether it’s better to play relationship chess or just be earnest and go for it. S2 Ep. 1 - It's Giving Interim Co-host

Jana welcomes friend Bobby Dues Wilson as Sage-Based Wisdom’s new interim co-host, and the two waste no time getting sacred, silly, and deeply off track. They swap stories from Tacoma, unpack Bobby’s adventures as an Indian stage dad, expose Brian’s questionable skateboarding skills, investigate Adam Driver’s alleged Native roots, and react to some truly unhinged Johnny Depp advice. Then, they answer a listener’s question about oversharing, social anxiety, and the dreaded vulnerability hangover. Ep. 97 - It's Giving Snuggle

Jana and Brian unpack people-pleasing, older-sibling dynamics, and the comfort of knowing the women in your life will never let you go missing. They also debate manifestation versus actual goal-setting, explore improv and play as tools for imagining a bigger life, and discuss the emotional labor women often carry for the men around them. A listener asks how to go from “cute” to “hot.” FOR MORE OF US IN YOUR LIFE, BECOME AN OFFICIAL WISE ASS: sagebasedwisdom.supercast.com Hosts: Jana Schmieding (@janaunplgd) and Brian Bahe (@brian_bahe) Music: Steve Jenkins (@stevejenkins) Producer: John Delviscio (@johndelviscio) Have a question or comment about anything? Ep. 96 - It's Giving Home Alone Saved Me

Jana and Brian catch up from Tacoma and San Diego, unpack Jana’s new role, and celebrate the power of tribal investment, creative momentum, and little-brother energy. They also roast an awkward consent video, debate whether social media actually helps a career, and answer a listener’s question about outgrowing a longtime friendship, offering advice on recognizing when a relationship has run its course and whether it is kinder to be direct than to keep dropping hints.
