Grief, Presence, And Continuing To Move Forward

In this episode, I share some very personal thoughts following the passing of my dad after his battle with ALS. This conversation is not really about fitness in the traditional sense. It’s about life, presence, grief, appreciation, emotional awareness, and navigating the moments that remind us just how quickly things can change. We talk about: How fast life can shift Being present with the people around you Appreciating moments while they’re happening Grief, uncertainty, and emotional processing The emotional complexity of watching someone decline Lessons learned from vulnerability and connection The importance of emotional openness, especially for men Why movement, activity, and quality of life matter Continuing forward without ignoring what you feel Building a life and message that matters long term This episode also reflects on family, relationships, purpose, and the reality that life continues moving even during painful seasons. Sometimes there are lessons in life. Sometimes situations are simply hard. And part of growth is learning how to hold space for both of those realities at the same time. This conversation is more reflective, personal, and raw than usual, but it also ties deeply into what we talk about so often through the YLF philosophy: appreciating the time we have, being intentional with how we live, staying emotionally aware, and building a life with as little regret as possible. Thank you for continuing to be part of this community and this approach to life, health, mindset, and personal growth.

Why Your Brain Keeps Moving The Goalposts

Why does it feel like nothing is ever enough? In this episode, we explore why so many people constantly move the goalposts in health, fitness, personal growth, business, and life. We talk about the pressure to always chase the next thing, the emotional discomfort that can come when things finally get quiet, and why achievement alone rarely creates long-term fulfillment. This episode also dives into: Why hyper-achievement can become emotional avoidance The difference between ambition and self-rejection Learning how to appreciate your life while still growing Why so many people struggle to sit with quiet thoughts The emotional side of constantly chasing more Building a life that includes things you genuinely enjoy How fitness and goal-setting tie into self-worth The importance of operating from a calmer headspace Why thoughts and feelings are valid without always being true Learning to reduce regret while staying intentional about your life We also talk about how quickly life moves, why appreciation matters, and why taking time to recognize your effort matters more than many people realize. The goal is not to stop being ambitious. The goal is to stop running from yourself while pursuing the next thing. Because growth should not require constantly feeling like you are behind, broken, or not enough. And sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is allow yourself to sit in the moment, appreciate what you’ve built, and realize that your effort today was enough.

    Diving into The YLF Philosophy

Tonight on The YLF Experience, I wanted to spend time diving deeper into the foundational philosophy behind Your Level Fitness and why this approach is intentionally different from what most people experience in the fitness and weight loss space. The fitness industry often focuses heavily on transformation, results, habits, and actions. While those things matter, I believe the deeper mental and emotional approach underneath those actions matters even more. Because if weight loss and lifestyle change were purely logical processes, far more people would be successful long term. In this episode, I talk about: • The philosophy behind “Build a Forever Active Lifestyle” • Appreciating who and what you see in the mirror while continuing to grow • Why the mental tug of war around food, body image, and self-worth matters so much • The problem with guilt and shame based fitness culture • Why sustainable habits require more than discipline alone • How thought processes drive long-term behavior change • Why sustainability and enjoyment matter in fitness and nutrition • The difference between teaching people what to do versus helping them understand how to do it in their real life I also dive into: • The evolution of the journal prompts and live streams • Why nuance and personalization matter so much in coaching • How environment, comfort, hobbies, and enjoyment influence sustainability • The importance of building a lifestyle that actually fits your life long term At the center of all of this is one idea: Learn to appreciate who and what you see in the mirror while building a lifestyle you’ll actually want to stick with. Because fitness should support your life, not constantly fight against it.

Identity Change, Momentum and Building Self-Trust

In this episode of The YLF Experience, I’m wrapping up our Identity Change live stream series and reflecting on the biggest themes we explored over the last few weeks. We talked about: choosing the identity you want for yourself reinforcing that identity through thought patterns and action building momentum through consistency changing your environment to make growth easier creating friction around old behaviors learning how to pause before thought spirals and reactive decisions taking ownership of your thoughts and actions in real time One of the biggest ideas throughout this series was that identity change is not just about taking action until you eventually believe in yourself. It’s about actively learning how to trust yourself while you take the action. That process takes practice. It takes awareness. And it takes patience with yourself while things are still “clicking.” I also talk about why pace matters so much, why breaks and lighter moments are important inside personal growth work, and how the journal prompts and YLF structure continue evolving to better support real life. This episode serves as both a reflection on the series and a transition into next week’s conversations around the stages of the year, pacing, and sustainability. Most importantly, I want you to remember this: You can change direction at any time. And the more proactive you become in navigating your thoughts, actions, and environment, the more empowered you become in building the life you actually want to live.

Creating Friction for Old Habits and Ease for New Ones

In tonight’s episode of The Your Level Fitness Experience, we continue the conversation around environment, identity, and building a forever active lifestyle by making healthier habits easier to follow and old habits harder to fall back into. This episode is all about creating small moments of interruption between automatic behaviors and intentional choices, because sometimes the difference between staying stuck and building momentum is simply pausing long enough to recognize the decision you’re making. We’re talking about: • How to create “friction” for habits you’re trying to move away from • Why making healthy habits easier is often more effective than relying on motivation • Using environmental triggers to support workouts, nutrition, hydration, and routines • Breaking automatic patterns and building new behavioral pathways • Why small changes can completely shift long-term consistency • Structuring your environment around the identity you’re building • Reframing progress instead of viewing everything as success or failure • Finding victories inside imperfect moments • The problem with the all-or-nothing mindset in fitness and weight loss • The “Rhythms of Your Level Fitness” approach to sustainable focus, recovery, and momentum throughout the year I also share real-world examples from my own routines, eating habits, hydration habits, and decision-making process to show how consistency is often built through awareness, structure, and flexibility rather than perfection. This episode is a reminder that building a forever active lifestyle is not about being “on” all the time. It’s about creating systems, rhythms, and environments that support the person you’re becoming over the long term.

    The Pause Before the Pattern

In tonight’s episode of The YLF Experience Podcast, we continue the conversation around environment and habits by focusing on what I’m calling the pause before the pattern. Before we start overhauling routines or trying to stack a bunch of new habits onto our lives, we need to spend time developing the ability to pause in the moment before automatic behaviors take over. That pause is where awareness, ownership, and long-term change begin. I share another real-world example around food decisions, routines, and the difference between reacting automatically versus intentionally choosing what you want to do. This episode is not about perfection, restriction, or “earning” food. It is about learning how to step back, assess what you want, and own the decisions you make without spiraling emotionally afterward. We also talk about: • Why disrupting one meal instead of your entire day matters • The danger of “banking calories” to reward yourself with food • How habits become automatic over time • Why even one intentional pause can begin rewiring your patterns • How ownership creates empowerment • Why most of your day is made up of neutral habits and routines • Learning to feel more in control instead of emotionally reactive The goal this week is not perfection. It is awareness. If you can begin creating even small pauses before old patterns take over, you start proving to yourself that you are capable of redirecting your choices and building new routines over time.
