Prior to this, I’ve only ever left positive reviews. If I don’t enjoy something, I just move on.
But this podcast just left me so uncomfortable that I felt compelled to speak on it. First & foremost, it could have been one episode. There’s no resolution or any useful facts to build on.
What disturbed me is that they spent so much time telling us what they don’t want this podcast to be: exploitative, entertainment true crime, empty public consumption. But, it actually becomes all of those things.
We heard many clips of Sarah’s personal interactions with her family. Why? It felt voyeuristic, as they weren’t pertinent to the story. The interviews with the family were meandering, with seemingly no editing - it just felt like they were capitalizing on their pain.
The whole series feels wildly conspiratorial and very much exploitative of the family’s pain. Nothing exposed will move the ball forward. I feel so bad for this family, and quite complicit by listening to it.
