EP 8: Some of you are turning into the Toxic Aunties we used to hate!

EP 2: Daddy, I’ve got issues!

Welcome to Episode 2! In this episode, I dive into the topic of "Daddy Issues"—exploring what the term means, how it's often used to demean women, the stigmas attached to it, and the cultural and religious influences surrounding it. I also share my personal experiences and how I’ve worked through them. I don’t believe that women with “daddy issues” are “defective,” despite society’s best efforts to make us feel that way. Growing up in a broken home doesn’t doom you to a life of hardship or mean you deserve any less. Remember, these are just my thoughts and personal journey and please be sure to refer qualified professionals and materials from credible sources for any serious advice ❤️ Ekaete x Pieces of work I mentioned: I May Destroy You (TV series) Queenie (Book & TV series) Rocks (Film)

EP 6: Letting go, navigating envy & protecting my peace for 2025 🤍

Here we are with Episode 6. Thank you so much for all of your kind words, wisdom and support. This year has been a lot for me in both my personal and professional life which I hope you have gathered through listening to my experiences and realisations so far (yay for frontal lobe development lol). Somehow creating and producing this podcast has enabled me to feel an indescribable amount of joy, focus, peace, confidence, clarity, community and positivity as I round out what unfortunately started as a difficult, sad and deeply confusing 2024. I appreciate you all sticking around for the episodes and as I explained, I’m working hard behind the scenes to ensure 2025 will be much smoother with the podcast.

EP 4: A Black Girl's Guide to Surviving Corporate

In this episode, I thought it would be interesting while I take this unintended break from the corporate world to reflect from a distance and share my learnings and advice with you all (check out episode one for my most recent corporate experience that led to this). Having been in my corporate career for nearly 6 years, these are the things I’ve learned in my journey that have helped me be successful and progress up to the point that I have. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t and hopefully a few of these can help you too if you are currently in the corporate world or looking to join soon!

EP 3: Black women are allowed boundaries too.

In this week’s episode, I dive into the often-misunderstood topic of Black women and our boundaries. Why is it that when we assert our standards, it’s seen as a threat or a problem? I unpack the societal pressures that demand we shrink ourselves to make others comfortable and explore the cultural, historical, and personal reasons why this dynamic exists. From relationships to work and wider culture, I reflect on the strength it takes for us Black girls to set and maintain boundaries, and why we should never apologise for protecting our peace. Hope you enjoy. Ekaete x

EP 1: Wtf is happening to black girls in corporate?

Across social media, thousands of young black women are coming online to bravely share their less than ideal experiences existing and working in modern corporate work places. In this episode I share my recent personal experience in what I believed at the time to be my dream job and how months of targeting, isolation, harassment and racially charged interactions eventually led to me leaving after 10 months to preserve my mental health, physical health and self esteem as a Black woman.
