Bati Richès pou Pitit ou: Building Wealth That Outlives You | Jacky Petit-Homme CFP, CEPA

Nou travay di — we work hard. We send money home. We sacrifice so our children have more than we did. But for many families in the Haitian diaspora, wealth resets at every generation, not because of a lack of effort, but because the tools, structures, and conversations that make wealth transferable were never put in place.   In this episode of Edikasyon se Richès, we sit down with Jacky Petit-Homme, CFP, CEPA, a financial advisor who works with diverse communities, including immigrant families to talk about the real mechanics of building generational wealth, not the Instagram version, the real one.   We cover: •       Why budgeting and an emergency fund are the non-negotiable foundation, and how to build them even when you're sending remittances •       The retirement accounts most people in our community aren't using, and how a 401(k) match is literally free money you may be leaving behind •       What happens to your assets when you die without a will in the United States, and what to do about it •       The difference between a will, a trust, and a beneficiary designation, and which one your family actually needs •       Life insurance: what it's really for, and why the wrong kind can cost your family more than it gives them •       How to teach your children about money so that the knowledge transfers, not just the assets   Edikasyon se richès; and this episode is that education. Whether you're just starting out or looking to formalize what you've already built, this conversation is for you.   Guest: Jacky L Petit-Homme, CFP®, CEPA® @ Liberty One Wealth Advisors | Certified Exit Planner Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jackyph/ Book an Appointment with Jacky Petit-Homme: https://calendly.com/jackyp/intro?month=2026-03 Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Financial Literacy 03:35 Personal Journey into Financial Advising 06:19 Challenges in the Haitian Community 08:39 Balancing Remittances and Wealth Building 11:04 Mistakes of the Younger Generation 13:20 Debt Management and Investment Mindset 16:01 Emergency Funds: A Financial Safety Net 19:48 Understanding Retirement Plans 25:04 Tax Implications of Retirement Contributions 29:34 Real Estate: Investment or Liability? 33:46 First Steps into Stock Market Investing 36:40 The Changing Landscape of Investment Accessibility 36:42 Starting Small: The Power of Investment 39:53 The Importance of Wills and Estate Planning 44:20 Wills vs. Trusts: Understanding Your Options 48:09 Life Insurance: Term vs. Whole Life 53:00 Beneficiary Designations: Common Mistakes 56:37 Business Continuity: Planning for the Future 59:37 Taking Control of Your Financial Future
