Ep 98 "Inspect What You Expect"

You don't get what you expect. You get what you inspect. In Episode 98, the Lewis Brothers dig into why standards slip quietly — and why it's almost never a people problem. It's a follow-up problem. They start with the assignment that never actually happened: "handle that" isn't a task, and the expectation in your head is rarely the one that left your mouth. No owner, no date, no standard — three ways a job dies without anybody noticing. Then the line between inspecting and micromanaging, which comes down to one question: are you checking how it got done, or whether it got done? Announce the walk-through in advance and it stops feeling like a raid. Inspect the work, not the person. They close on rhythm — daily, weekly, monthly, and what genuinely doesn't need checking at all. Plus the hardest part: what you do the very first time you catch it slipping. Correct it, or you've just taught everybody the standard is optional. Also in this episode: Two Truths and a Lie on how the car business checks itself, a Myth Buster on whether good hiring should eliminate the need to check, and What's in the Garage @ Lewis. EP 97 "Everyone Agreed. That's the problem."

Everybody Agreed. That's the Problem. A room full of agreement feels like leadership working. Usually it's leadership failing quietly. This week Matt, Shelby, and Taylor Lewis take on healthy pushback in business and leadership — why you don't want yes men, what an agreeable room actually costs, and the line most leaders have never defined out loud. Because you do want pushback, just not everywhere. Before the decision, it's information you need. Three weeks after the decision, it's erosion. The brothers work through where that boundary sits, what separates real pushback from "I don't like it," and why bringing an alternative matters more than raising an objection. Then the harder part: your team is not reading your open-door policy. They're reading what happened to the last person who used it. How you react the first time determines whether there's ever a second time. Plus: Fact or Fiction on how many employees watch their coworkers stay silent, a Myth Buster on the open-door illusion, and what happens when two of three brothers disagree in front of the team. EP 95 " You Fired the Wrong Guy" - guess you should have asked one more question...

Ep95 — "You Fired the Wrong Guy" | Guess You Should Have Asked One More Question… The most expensive thing in business isn't a bad decision. It's a fast one. Matt, Shelby, and Taylor Lewis unpack the discipline almost nobody practices: asking one more question before you decide you already have the answer. It costs deals, it costs good people, and it usually happens in under thirty seconds. Three cores this week: The Deal — the question after the answer. Why "your price is too high" is rarely about the price, and why silence is a follow-up question. The Bench — teaching by asking instead of telling. Ask "what would you do?" before you hand over the solution. The fastest answer is usually the most expensive habit. The Discovery — ask before you accuse. Whether it's an employee, a vendor, or a customer, discovery first gives you direction. Assumption first just gives you a decision you'll have to walk back. Plus What's In The Garage at Lewis, two leadership quizzes, and the brothers on the questions they wish they'd asked. EP 92 "They Bought Once — Now What? The Retention Machine"

They Bought Once — Now What? The Retention Machine | Crossroad Conversations Ep. 92 Anybody can sell a car once. An 80-year, four-generation business runs on repeat families — not first-timers. In this episode, Matt, Shelby, and Taylor break down the systems, moments, and mindset that decide whether a customer comes back or drifts down the road. It costs roughly 5x more to win a new customer than to keep one you already have — so why do most businesses pour everything into the sale and ignore what happens after? The Lewis brothers dig into the retention machine: where customers slip through the cracks, why the service drive matters more than the showroom, and how to win back the ones you almost lost. In this episode:  ► The Handoff Is Where You Lose Them — the sales-to-service leak nobody watches  ► The Service Drive Is the Real Showroom — how an oil change sells the next truck  ► Win It Back — turning a botched repair into a raving fan  ► Why the complainer is a gift, and the quiet one who leaves is the danger  ► When a win-back is worth it — and when to let them move on Whether you run a dealership, a small business, or any operation that depends on customers coming back, this one's about building loyalty on purpose. 🔗 Shop & connect: https://www.lewissuperstore.com 🎙️ More episodes: https://www.crossroadconversationspodcast.com OR https://www.youtube.com/@CrossroadConversationsPod #CrossroadConversations #CustomerRetention #SmallBusiness #Leadershi Feel the dynamic energy of the Lewis Brothers as they deliver real stories and lessons that keep local businesses on their toes, and share how experiences in the community inspire them to keep on driving. Ep91 - "Feed It. Train It. Trust It. — The Leader's Mind"

You train your team. You train your skills. You even train your body. But when's the last time you trained your mind? New episode of Crossroad Conversations is live. We're breaking down the three-part discipline behind every strong leader: 🧠 Feed it — what you consume becomes how you lead  💪 Train it — the first 60 minutes shape the next 15 hours  🎯 Trust it — the inner voice that becomes your outer leadership If your leadership feels off, it usually starts here. 🎙️ Link in bio | crossroadconversationspodcast.com  #Leadership #Mindset #CrossroadConversations #LewisAutomotive X / Twitter You train your team, your skills, your body — but almost nobody trains their mind. Ep. 91 is live: Feed It. Train It. Trust It. — The Leader's Mind. If your leadership feels off, it usually starts here. 🎙️  crossroadconversationspodcast.com LinkedIn Most leaders spend hours training skills and almost none training their thinking. In our latest Crossroad Conversations episode, we break the leader's mind into three disciplines: The Input — What you let into your head becomes how you lead. You can't out-think a bad input diet. The Reps — Train your mind like you train your body. The first hour of your day sets the tone for the next fifteen, and one intentional hour a day compounds dramatically over a year. The Output — Your inner voice becomes your outer leadership. What you say to yourself eventually becomes what you say to your team. A discipline worth building. Feed it. Train it. Trust it. 🎙️ crossroadconversationspodcast.com Feel the dynamic energy of the Lewis Brothers as they deliver real stories and lessons that keep local businesses on their toes, and share how experiences in the community inspire them to keep on driving.
