Welcome to Idiots and Idioms, a podcast where we butcher the English language so you don't have to! Join us as we stumble through bizarre expressions like "raining cats and dogs", unravel their wild meanings and guess how anyone ever thought they made sense. It's all about learning, laughing and wondering how we made it this far without knowing where "kick the bucket" comes from. Tune in for nonsense, a few lightbulb moments, and a lot of "Wait, THAT'S what that means?!" When Everyone’s an Idiot, No One Will Be

In this episode, we're serving up some cold shoulders, dry weather and near-miss cigars! Ever been frozen out of a conversation? We'll explain how "giving someone the cold shoulder" became the ultimate chill diss. Then, we jet to Italy for the idiom "Non ci prove" because when something's a sure thing, there's not a cloud in sight! And for all you almost-winners, we break down "close but no cigar". Tune in for the laughs and language. Producer: Damy McConnell Hosts: Maddy Bigwood, Savannah Gray and Damy McConnell Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    First Things First

In this debut episode, we're diving headfirst into the wild world of idioms! Ever wondered why you're biting bullets (ouch!), pretending not to see obvious stuff (very subtle), or delivering life advice from what kind of pulpit? We’ll uncover the surprisingly messy origins of “bite the bullet,” figure out why Admiral Nelson might not have been the best at keeping an eye on things, and get a front-row seat to an Italian sermon that may or may not involve pasta. Get ready for a deep dive into the things we say—sometimes without thinking—and leave armed with random facts to impress your friends (or confuse them).
