Dance Academy's Dena Kaplan on getting sober

Hello! Today, we speak to Dena Kaplan. Dena played Abigail in the Australian television series, Dance Academy. Dena has had a varied life; she moved overseas and landed a job in music and is now a mother to her two-year-old daughter Maya and is the co-host of her podcast, Life Academy with Alicia Banit.  In this conversation, Dena reflects on her early 20s, filming Dance Academy, and how the TV show really shaped her life. She also opens up about the dependency she developed on prescription medication, her journey to sobriety, and the invisible string that reconnected her to her partner Alex, 11 years later. For help and support about the themes covered in this episode, call our National Alcohol and Other Drug Hotline on 1800 250 015. 3 Life Lessons with Trent Dalton

Hi! Today, we are so thrilled to be bringing you this Life Lessons conversation with award-winning author, Trent Dalton. Trent Dalton is the author of so many novels you’ve probably read already, including All Our Shimmering Skies, Lola In The Mirror, Love Stories, and, of course, his widely acclaimed, semi-autobiographical novel, Boy Swallows Universe, which has been adapted into a seven-part Netflix series and theatre production.  In this conversation, Trent discusses some of the beautiful, vivid memories that comprise the story of his childhood, as told in Boy Swallows Universe. He also shares a truly magical anecdote about falling in love with his wife, Fiona, and the lead-up to the moment he eventually opened up about his feelings for her at a Powderfinger concert.  Pick up Trent’s new book, Gravity Let Me Go, right here.
