The subject of empathy is now receiving more attention than ever before. There are currently calls in many areas of society to make empathy a fundamental element of all political and interpersonal actions. Social scientists consider empathy to be an important social resource in a world characterized by the challenges of globalization, increasing individualization and an endangered ecosystem. Economists such as Jeremy Rifkin (2009) have suggested replacing the US myth of the ‘American Dream’ with the new self-image of an ‘empathetic civilization’.

    Literatur als Schule der Empathie – Shakespeares Othello

    Die Voraussetzung von Empathie ist in der angeborenen menschlichen Fähigkeit verankert, dass wir sowohl wir selbst als auch ein Anderer sein können. The lecture series is part of the CAS research focus "Empathy" under the auspices of the English scholar Prof. Dr. Claudia Olk (LMU). | Igor Levit is one of the world's best-known pianists and professor of piano at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. When public performances were not possible due to the Covid pandemic, Levit gave a series of 52 "house concerts" via Twitter and Instagram starting in March 2020. | David Trippett is Director of Studies in Music at Christ's College, University of Cambridge, and currently a Fellow at CAS. | Magdalena Zorn is a musicologist at LMU and researches, among other things, musicalized light spaces of the German post-war avant-garde.
