On this podcast, I’ll speak with people who have influenced my journey of becoming, from colleagues, coaches and course leaders. Together, we’ll dive into topics like - how to be well in the context of climate change, the power of systems and regenerative thinking, the importance of mindfulness and consciousness, and the role of self-awareness and coaching in creating a regenerative future. Join us as we explore how personal growth and systemic transformation are deeply interconnected—and how together, we can navigate these turbulent times with greater ease, purpose, and authenticity. The Why of Becoming the Change

In this episode of On Becoming the Change, I share my intentions for creating the Becoming the Change movement, where it came from, what my vision is and who it is for. Becoming the Change is founded from my own inquiry into what it means to become the change we want to see in the world. It’s an exploration of what it means to be human in these complex and uncertain times, and how we find peace, freedom, clarity, and a sense of purpose and meaning. Drawing on insights that I’ve learnt from mindfulness, Buddhism, Taoism, yoga philosophy, coaching, therapy, systems and regenerative thinking - I reflect on the common thread I’ve found running through them all: that our true purpose is to come home to ourselves. To me this means deepening our consciousness and living from a place of greater presence, authenticity, connection, and love. I share why I chose the name Becoming the Change as both aspects of becoming and change are important parts. For me, “becoming” represents the ongoing journey of remembering who we truly are beneath our conditioning and evolving into who we are becoming, while “the change” is about orienting that personal journey towards the wellbeing of the whole and being of service to a better future. Together, they reflect my belief that our individual becoming is the greatest contribution we can make to a more just and regenerative future. I talk about my vision for what this movement might become: a place where people navigating the liminal space of inner transformation can come together in community to be together and support one another. Through gatherings in nature, retreats, walks, conversations, mindfulness, movement, creativity, and shared practice, I hope to create spaces where we can be fully human, embrace the messiness of becoming, and embody more heart-led ways of living and leading. I share why I’ve decided to use the word movement rather than a business or organisation, and why I believe the inner and outer cannot be separated and everything starts from within. I explore some limitations I found in some personal development spaces - where it’s focused solely on the self without outer world responsibility - and in social and environmental change - where I found some were unconsciously driven by fear, shame, or the need to prove our worth through the worthiness of our cause. Becoming the Change is an invitation to see our contribution and purpose in a different way: where we recognise ourselves as already whole and enough, and interconnected with all that is and the journey of becoming being about answering our call to contribute from the heart to the greater good. This episode is for anyone who finds themselves in the in-between space: questioning old ways of living, knowing that something new is emerging and taking steps towards the new way of being, and looking for companions on the journey. If it resonates with you, please reach out, I would love to connect with others on a similar journey. On Becoming the Change is part of the Becoming the Change movement for people who are getting to know themselves more deeply, exploring how to contribute to a more just and regenerative future, and looking for a more fulfilling, energising, and easeful way of doing that. On accepting what is

In this episode of On Becoming the Change, I explore the practice of accepting what is and how learning to accept ourselves, other people, and the world as it is can be one of the most direct ways to find greater peace, freedom, and ease. Inspired by a week where lots of things didn’t go as I’d hoped, I reflect on how much energy we can spend resisting reality, wishing things were different, or believing that we, other people, or life situations should be something other than they are. We explore why acceptance is not about giving up, becoming passive, or lowering our standards, instead about meeting life as it is so we can respond more consciously from the present moment. We look at self-acceptance as the foundation for meaningful change, and why we cannot shame, criticise, or reject ourselves into becoming who we want to be. Instead, real transformation often comes through self-compassion, understanding, and learning to accept and embrace all parts of ourselves. We also explore how the parts of ourselves we struggle to accept often shape how we judge and relate to others, and how curiosity and understanding can deepen our relationships and connection, as well as the importance of understanding and honouring our own needs and boundaries. We also explore how acceptance can be helpful when dealing with the state of the world. In times of uncertainty, complexity and change, acceptance can help us let go of the internal battles we have with reality and can help us to be with what’s here now and allow ourselves to feel, without getting carried away in stories. And how we can find more clarity and ability to respond when we trade expectations for acceptance. Throughout the episode, I share reflections from teachings of mindfulness and my take on teachings from Thich Nhat Hanh, Tara Brach, Carl Jung, and Peter Crone, alongside practical ways to cultivate acceptance in everyday life. This episode is for anyone who finds themselves wanting to practice more acceptance in their lives and reflect on how acceptance can bring us back to the present moment, where we often find more peace, energy, clarity and joy and feel more like ourselves. The podcast is part of the Becoming the Change movement for people who are getting to know themselves more deeply, exploring how to contribute to a more just and regenerative future, and looking for a more fulfilling, energising, and easeful way of doing that. The Potential of Becoming

In this episode, I explore a question that has sat at the heart of my own journey: how do we respond to the global crises of our time in a way that feels adequate? When there’s an emergency in front of us, we often know what to do. We act. We respond. But when we’re faced with climate change, biodiversity loss, inequality, and the many interconnected challenges facing our world, it can feel very different. The problems are vast, complex, and often beyond our control. For many of us, this can leave us feeling overwhelmed, powerless, fearful, or questioning whether what we’re doing is enough. I share my own experience of working in sustainability, doing all the “right” sustainable behaviours, and dedicating my career to creating positive impact, yet still feeling like it wasn't enough. I explore how living in a constant state of anticipatory fear about the future can affect our wellbeing, our creativity, and our ability to respond effectively to the challenges we care about. We explore the relationship between our inner world and our capacity to create change. We look at how awareness of what’s happening in the world can contract us into hopelessness and scarcity, and how reconnecting with ourselves can help us move into a more generative, expansive, and creative state. We discuss the importance of taking care of our own wellbeing alongside caring for the planet and others, finding peace in enoughness while also expanding our consciousness beyond the limitations we’ve placed on ourselves and what’s possible. We explore how becoming aware of the stories, beliefs, and assumptions that shape our lives allows us to transform them, and how self-awareness, self-leadership, authenticity, and compassion can help us step into our capacity as creators. This episode is an invitation to consider what change could become possible when we come back to ourselves. When we align with who we truly are, connect with what gives us energy, learn to navigate difficult emotions, and create from a place of presence rather than fear. Because perhaps creating a more regenerative future isn’t just about what we do, but about who we become in the process. The podcast is part of the Becoming the Change movement - for people who are getting to know themselves more deeply, exploring how to contribute to a more just and regenerative future, and looking for a more fulfilling, energising and easeful way of doing that. On just starting the thing

In the first episode of Series 2, I talk about perfectionism - what it really is, where it comes from, and why doing something imperfectly and just starting might actually be one of the most powerful things we can do. I share my own experience of sitting on this podcast for over a year waiting for everything to feel ready, and explore the fears that keep us stuck, why clarity comes through doing rather than thinking, and how the act of starting is itself an act of becoming. If you're sitting on something you haven't started or taken action on yet, this one's for you. We also explore understanding our ‘why’ for what we want to do, getting intentional about our time and how we use it, taking off the pressure of expectation or outcome and the value in taking baby steps. We look at how ‘should’s’ and ‘ought to’s’ can keep us stuck and how resistance and fear may sit behind our procrastination. And we look at what choices you really want to make to align your life with the person you want to become and the change you want to see. The podcast is part of the Becoming the Change movement - for people who are getting to know themselves more deeply, exploring how to contribute to a more just and regenerative future, and looking for a more fulfilling, energising and easeful way of doing that. Living a fulfilled life by overcoming limiting beliefs and unconscious patterns - with Alma Griffith

Three years ago, I started working with Alma Griffith, a psychotherapist and coach, and it completely changed my life. Outwardly I was ‘successful’, I had a good job and a nice life but within me something felt off — I wasn’t feeling fulfilled or content with my life. Through our work together, I explored the beliefs, life stories, and unconscious thought patterns that were keeping me stuck and how to change these so I could create a life that would align more with my values and be more fulfilling. In this episode, Alma and I dive into personal transformation, the stories we tell ourselves, and how we can break free from limiting beliefs to become who we were meant to be. We explore: How outward success can mask inner struggles—and why so many of us feel like we’re not "enough." How to stop people-pleasing and seeking external validation so you can live a life that feels true to you. The power of beliefs—how the narratives we hold about ourselves shape our lives, and how we can rewrite them. What happens when you step out of your comfort zone and how big life changes can trigger unexpected emotions. Why we resist change and how uncertainty can be a gateway to discovering our authentic selves. The unconscious impact of childhood conditioning—how early experiences shape our self-worth and patterns in adulthood. How we unconsciously reinforce limiting beliefs and what it takes to bring them to the surface and shift them. The importance of emotional intelligence and self-awareness in understanding why we react the way we do. We also discuss how deeply ingrained beliefs shape our relationships, careers, and sense of purpose. Alma shares powerful ways to break free from old patterns, step into self-acceptance, improve our relationships and create a life aligned with who you truly are. If you’ve ever felt like you’re not enough or you feel stuck, unsatisfied with your life or unsure of your next step, I hope this conversation will offer you some insight, clarity and encouragement. I am so grateful for Alma’s support on my journey and for joining the podcast. About Alma For over 30 years, Alma Griffith has been guiding people through personal transformation, drawing from her own deep journey of change. She knows firsthand how limiting beliefs can shape our lives—having once struggled with the feeling of not being "good enough" herself. That experience led her to explore Neuro-linguistic programming, life coaching, psychotherapy and the power of shifting mindsets, ultimately changing her own story. Alma’s mission is simple: to help others discover their own ability to change. Through honest conversations and reflections, she explores what it means to break free from old beliefs, step into personal power, and create a life that feels truly aligned. You can find more about Alma from Mind Serenity on https://www.mindserenity.co.uk/about/ or contact Alma here. The last episode of this series of the podcast will be coming out next Thursday. What it’s really like to be a sustainability professional - reflections on our research - with Katherine Ellsworth-Krebs

In this episode of On Becoming the Change, I speak to Katherine Ellsworth-Krebs, a Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Strathclyde focusing on sustainable design and a coach for sustainability professionals. For the past year, Katherine and I have collaborated on a research project to explore the realities of working in a sustainability role within an organisation. We surveyed 92, and interviewed 28, sustainability professionals to find out what the main challenges were and what skills and support they needed. In this conversation, we share insights from our research, stories we heard from sustainability professionals, our personal experiences with eco-anxiety and the journey’s that led us to become coaches dedicated to supporting changemakers. Here’s what we discuss: The stories we heard about sustainability professionals experience of imposter syndrome and eco-anxiety. The unique struggles of the sustainability field, including loneliness, the newness of the industry, and the absence of clear career paths and guidance. The cognitive dissonance that can happen when working in sustainability, the impact of greenwashing, and managing the tension between economic growth and environmental boundaries. How burnout manifests and the profound lessons learned when you’re forced to slow down. The transformative role of coaching in building confidence, resilience, and the ability to navigate challenges. Why coaching and emotional intelligence are crucial skills for sustainability professionals and how they support personal and professional growth. The question: Who holds the space for sustainability professionals to process what they’re going through? We get personal in this episode and share more about our own experiences of burnout, climate grief and anxiety and what led us into coaching. And we explore the importance of emotional intelligence, building supportive networks, and recognising the value of self-care and boundary setting. If you are a sustainability professional navigating the challenges of this work, know that you are not alone. We hope this conversation brings you some comfort, inspiration, and practical insights to help keep you stay motivated and deepen your impact.
