Bullets and Beatdowns: CineClub talks Hong Kong Action

This week the team, Elliott, Billy, Connell and Jake, talk Hong Kong action films. Starting with Bruce Lee’s classic martial arts films Enter the Dragon (1974) and Way of the Dragon (1972) our film devotees appreciate the spectacular fight scenes and wonder about the crossover with video games. The conversation moves on to consider ways the genre has evolved - sometimes with comic elements such as in Jackie Chan’s Police Story (1985) and Rush Hour (1998), and sometimes with a bleak outlook such as in Chow Yun-fat’s City on Fire (1987) and Hard Boiled (1998). It’s clear there is a Hong Kong film for every taste! Our presenters are Elliott, Billy, Connell and Jake. The episode was engineered and edited by Emily Main.
