S1E1 - The Awful Thing: Unveiling the Holiness of God - A. W. Tozer

Are you ready to confront a truth so profound it shakes the very foundations of your being? In this episode, delve into the depths of A.W. Tozer's sermon "Attributes of God (Series 1) - The Holiness of God" and embark on a journey to rediscover the awe-inspiring, unapproachable holiness of God. Prepare to be challenged as the concept of holiness is explored, not through mere definitions, but through its profound impact on humanity. Tozer masterfully paints a picture of a world steeped in impurity, where even our purest acts fall short of divine perfection. He invites us to confront the stark contrast between our fallen nature and the unblemished purity of God. Through vivid imagery and powerful scriptural references, Tozer reveals the inadequacy of human language to capture the essence of God's holiness. Drawing on examples from the Old and New Testaments, Tozer unveils how the encounters of Moses, Isaiah, and even the Apostle Paul with the divine presence left them humbled and undone. He emphasizes that genuine repentance stems from a profound realization of our own unworthiness in the face of God's absolute purity. This episode is not for the faint of heart. It is a call to abandon lukewarm Christianity and embrace a radical transformation rooted in a deep reverence for the Holy One. Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged, your heart stirred, and your understanding of God's holiness forever altered. About A. W. Tozer Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897–1963) was an influential American pastor, author, and theologian known for his deep spiritual insight and passionate call for authentic Christian living. Born on April 21, 1897, in La Jose (now Newburg), Pennsylvania, Tozer grew up in a farming family with limited formal education. His life took a transformative turn at age 17 when he committed himself to Christ after hearing a street preacher. Tozer joined the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) and served as a pastor for over four decades, primarily at Southside Alliance Church in Chicago and later at Avenue Road Church in Toronto. A self-taught theologian, Tozer was known for his rigorous study of Scripture, prayerful dependence on God, and profound preaching. His writings, including the classics The Pursuit of God (1948) and The Knowledge of the Holy (1961), focus on the attributes of God, the need for personal holiness, and the centrality of a deep relationship with Christ. Through over 40 books and countless sermons, Tozer challenged Christians to reject superficial faith and pursue a life fully surrendered to God. Tozer was also a contributing editor for the Alliance Weekly magazine (now Alliance Life), using it as a platform to address spiritual complacency in the church. Despite his prominence, he lived a life of simplicity and humility, often giving away book royalties to those in need. A.W. Tozer passed away on May 12, 1963, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire Christians worldwide to seek a deeper, more intimate relationship with God.
