  1. Pen Names and Plot Twists: The Nordic Cozy Blueprint with A. L. Jensen (Ep. 319)

Pen Names and Plot Twists: The Nordic Cozy Blueprint with A. L. Jensen (Ep. 319)

Tonight I’m joined by Finnish-Canadian author, certified book coach, and podcaster A. L. Jensen (aka Liisa Kovola) to explore how reinvention, discipline, and a dash of Nordic comfort can transform both a writing life and a mystery series.  We dig into her pivot from teaching to full-time creativity, why she split her work between pen names, and how book coaching accelerates craft, confidence, and completion.   A. L. shares the inspiration behind her Nordic cozy Hygge House series—where small-town charm meets culture, community, and just the right amount of murder—and how midlife changes fueled her storytelling. We also unpack the power of accountability, the realities of finishing a book, and why readers are craving warmth and connection alongside their whodunits. You’ll hear practical insights on plotting vs. pantsing, the value of mentorship, and the tough-love truths new writers need.   A. L. also talks about becoming Canada’s first Asahi Nordic instructor, embracing multiple creative identities, and how podcasting helps introverted storytellers find their public voice. If you’ve got a book inside you—or a new chapter of life to write—this conversation is your nudge to start before you feel perfectly ready. Guest: A.L. Brisket, Barter, and Beehives (Ep. 318)

In this Wednesday's with Wayne edition, I’m joined by our resident Practical Prepper, Wayne Rankin, for a lively, wide-ranging conversation on self-reliance, community, and faith. We kick off with updates from Eagle Pass and Wayne’s whirlwind week: a near-disaster averted with a flooded cellar and gas water heater, how smart improvisation (hello, gym showers) fits into practical preparedness, and why a few key home fixes and tutorials can save you big down the line.   Wayne shares the power of church community—teams of men rallying to split and stack 16 cords of firewood, the joy of feeding helpers Texas-style brisket and pulled pork, and giving first fruits to a single mom and youth fundraiser. We dig into homestead systems (propane stoves, generators, future wind turbine, beehives, garden, and flock), medical self-care with simple herbal and pantry remedies, and how to approach bartering—from cakes for car repairs to salmon for small engine help.   We also reflect on stewardship, personal responsibility before God, and honest concerns about policy, AI, and the cost of living, all through a grounded, hopeful lens of family, fellowship, and doing the next right thing. Plus, I recap our recent Sunday Bible study on Revelation 12 and preview Wayne’s next adventure, filming along the Cowlitz River beneath Mount St. Helens. If you’re building resilience and community—without the doom—this episode is for you. 3. Revelation Chapter 12 | The Dragon, The Woman & The Remnant (Ep. 317)

    5d ago

Revelation Chapter 12 | The Dragon, The Woman & The Remnant (Ep. 317)

In this Sunday Bible Study, I walk us through Revelation chapter 12, building on last week’s look at the two witnesses and the rise of global rebellion. We identify the key figures—the woman (Israel), the great red dragon (Satan), Michael the archangel, and the man child—and trace how this chapter unveils the spiritual war behind human history and Israel’s prophetic role. We compare scripture with scripture (Genesis 37; Matthew 16, 24–25; Daniel; Zechariah) to clarify symbols, discuss Satan’s casting down and intensified persecution, Israel’s flight into the wilderness for 1,260 days, and the judgment of the nations based on how they treat Israel. I highlight how believers overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and why Satan’s time is short, reminding us that God remains in control even as deception increases. I also answer common interpretations (e.g., whether the woman is Mary or the Church), note possible double applications of the “man child,” and consider what “two wings of a great eagle” might mean—all with the aim of encouraging you to study with an open Bible and confidence in Christ’s victory. If you missed the earlier Revelation studies or the dispensations series referenced, you can find them in the archives on joerooz.com. Wednesday with Wayne: Simple Steps to Storm-Proof Your Home (Ep. 315)

In this Memorial Day week episode, I open up about why this holiday is one of my most meaningful, honoring the men and women who paid the ultimate price to secure our freedoms and the everyday heroes who keep our communities safe. I reflect on family stories, the purpose behind the day, and what it means for us as Americans to celebrate with gratitude and remembrance.   Then I welcome back our “Wednesday with Wayne” guest, Wayne Rankin—aka Dr. Prepper—for a practical, no-nonsense deep dive on preparedness. Wayne shares hands-on tips for short-term outages and storms: simple water strategies (bathtub fills, water heater access, safe flushing), low-cost pantry essentials (proteins, beans, rice, canned fruit), and easy starter gardening ideas to stretch budgets and build resilience.   We also touch on rising costs, supply chain pressures, and why learning trades and home skills can steady families in uncertain times. It’s a grounded, encouraging conversation about honoring sacrifice while taking practical steps to care for our homes and neighbors. 6. The Beast, The Witnesses and Judgment (Ep. 314)

    May 25

The Beast, The Witnesses and Judgment (Ep. 314)

In today’s Bible Study, we continue our verse-by-verse journey through Revelation 11. Picking up from last week’s discussion on the two witnesses (identified as Moses and Elijah), we explore their martyrdom, the world’s shocking celebration over their deaths, and the fear that grips humanity when God raises them and calls, “Come up hither.”  We unpack the spiritual versus doctrinal applications of Scripture, why Jerusalem is spiritually called “Sodom and Egypt,” the seventh trumpet “headline” of the last half of the Tribulation, and the promise that the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of our Lord.  We also trace the intensifying sequence of earthquakes as creation “travails,” preview judgments to come (including the Great White Throne), and contrast Church Age grace through faith with works-centered dispensations in the Tribulation and Millennium. Through it all, the big takeaway remains: human hostility to truth is growing, but Christ’s eternal reign is certain—and now is the day of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.   Scripture highlights include Revelation 11:7–19; cross-references to Revelation 4, 9, 12–14, 20; Daniel 7:18; Romans 8; Matthew 4; Acts 2, 4, 7; and Luke 19. I encourage you to read along, bring your questions, and share the gospel with boldness this week. Wednesday's with Wayne: Homestead Skills You Can Use Today (Ep. 313)

In this episode of the Joe Rooz Show, we welcome back our resident “Doctor Prepper” Wayne Rankin—and for the first time, his wife Rosanna—live from the Asylum for another Wednesday's with Wayne. We dive into practical preparedness you can start today: water storage for small spaces, why a flashlight tops the list, creative uses for blue tarps and contractor bags, and smart food staples like rice, beans, pasta, and even Top Ramen.    Rosanna brings a wealth of homestead know‑how, sharing hands-on tips for reliable winter egg production, bread troubleshooting (store your yeast in the freezer!), and beginner-friendly beekeeping insights—from queen introductions to how pollinators supercharge your fruit trees.    We also touch on sustainable living through gardening, hunting, and fishing, plus simple, budget-friendly ways to build a 72-hour kit and pantry without panic buying. Preppared, not paranoid—all with humor, heart, and actionable advice you can use right away.    Resources mentioned and takeaways include: start with the basics (water, light, heat), use a small propane grill for cooking during outages, keep matches dry in pill bottles, make fire starters with cotton balls and petroleum jelly, rotate egg-laying hens with light and nutrition, and remember that community—human and honeybee—makes resilience possible.  Watch and Follow https://Rumble.com/JoeRooz https://YouTube.com/@JoeRooz FOLLOW US ON: X: https://x.com/joerooz Facebook: https://facebook.com/joeroozshow Twitch TV: https://twitch.tv/joerooz Instagram: https://instagram.com/notjoerooz TikTok: https://tiktok.com/joe.rooz Minds: https://minds.com/joerooz GETTR: https://gettr.com/joerooz Special thanks to: Executive Producer Wayne Rankin Executive Producer Rosanna Rankin Executive Producer Carolina Jimenez Executive Producer Angela Wetuski Executive Producer John Seeley Want to be a guest on The Joe Rooz Show? In today’s Sunday Bible Study, I pick up our ongoing journey through Revelation, continuing from chapter 10 and into the opening of chapter 11.    Despite battling a rough sore throat, we pressed on to explore the sealed “seven thunders,” what it means that “time shall be no longer,” and why Scripture can be both sweet and bitter—sweet to receive, but challenging when applied.    We also examined the identity and ministry of the two witnesses, cross-referencing Elijah and Moses through James 5, 1 Kings, Exodus, and Numbers, and tracked how their fire, plagues, and drought align with Revelation 11.    Along the way, we discussed the earthly, literal temple to be measured, the 42 months given to the Gentiles, and how the beast from the bottomless pit ties together with the king of the abyss and the sea beast of Revelation 13.    I closed with reminders about progressive revelation—how God unfolds truth in His timing—and encouragement to keep studying, praying, and testing all things by the Word of God.    Key passages included Revelation 10–11, Daniel 12, Zechariah 4, James 5, 1 Kings 17, Exodus 3, Numbers 16, 2 Kings 1, Luke 16, and Jonah 2. We’ll continue next time as we move deeper into Revelation 11 and beyond.
