    Emerging Enterprise: Closing the food loop by building a zero-waste food system

    Did you know that households waste over 1 billion meals worth of edible food every day, the equivalent of 1.3 meals every day for everyone in the world affected by hunger. In fact, according to the UN, about 13.2 percent of food produced is lost between harvest and retail. In line with Singapore’s 30 by 30 food sustainability goal, one startup in Singapore is giving food waste a second lease of life. Through its solution called WasteMaster - an on-site food waste processing system - Life Lab Resources converts the waste food into valuable feed resources.     By the middle of the century, global emissions from plastic production could triple to account for one-fifth of the Earth’s remaining carbon budget. But one Indonesian social enterprise by the name of Plana, is working hard at turning back the clock on our plastic waste. It has developed innovative solutions to convert plastic and waste from rice husks into sustainable materials, called Plana Wood and Plana Brick - which serve as a durable substitutes for building and furniture.
