003 - Mart and Dave - Living Outside the Curriculum

Meetings, meetings, meetings. Timed meetings. Sauna meetings. Boring meetings. Dynamic meetings. Humans like to meet.  Episode 3 starts off with a look at the way we come together and the way we say goodbye. How much of this behavior is learned and culturally acceptable? Enter Minnesota Nice and Iron Fist Detroit and how much does this collective thought and feeling affect the overall ether being created in a sports town, a team, or organization? The fear of offending can hinder great growth. Ruffling, Disrupting, and Offending are oftentimes great stewards of necessary change.  Mart and Dave take us through some of their own coaching journeys. 001 - Mart and Dave - The River has Changed

Harvey and Dave find themselves back together, standing side by side at the banks of a river that is well known to both of them. Except. The River has changed. And. So have Harvey and Dave.  Mart and The Fishbowl gets a warm and thoughtful goodbye. Like a Viking funeral, the name gets gently placed on a wooden raft, let go downstream, and struck with a flaming arrow, sending it into its afterlife. Left standing is Mart and Dave, and in this first episode, the two waste no time diving deep into the swirling waters they now find themselves in, in this current season of life. How have the identities, characters, and personas changed over the years? Where has disruption and discomfort left its mark? 041 - Justin Juntunen - Co-Founder of Cedar & Stone Nordic Sauna

Welcome back to another season. For those who follow A Moment With Mart, you understand the natural ebbs and flows of how Mart's consistency works. It has been a nice break, but it is time to dive back into the intellect. To chop it up with those around the world. See how they're living. How they're thinking. We kick back up with Justin Juntunen, Co-Founder of Cedar & Stone Nordic Sauna. Justin has become a good friend of mine, and it was an enjoyable sit-down with him for this episode. I originally found an admiration for his craft through his ability to tell stories and relate traditional practices to the speed of modern life. I wasn't able to hang out with him for those initial years after discovering him, but once I did, I learned so much more. His talent for entrepreneurship. His skill in leadership. And his lengthy coverage of philosophy and health. I knew immediately we would develop a sustainable friendship. And that's exactly what happened. Whether we meet at the start of summer in Duluth to sauna and swim in the frigid Lake Superior waters, or he's down in the desert visiting friends, we have found the space to connect. Talk sauna, talk life. That is exactly what we did on this episode. Justin came over to my house in the desert, and we took the stream of consciousness for a walk. I love hearing him touch on quality sauna. The history of sauna. The details of sauna. And of course, the approach to health with sauna. Side note — I've also traveled the globe, hitting the sweat box. This guy and his team are undoubtedly at the top of the field, both nationally and internationally. 040 - Dr. Mauro Zappaterra - MD, PhD, Cerebrospinal Fluid and Presence

Hello, my friends, please welcome Dr. Mauro Zappaterra to the podcast. I was thrilled to have a conversation with him this fall. His work grabbed my attention when I saw what he was doing with cerebrospinal fluid. This fascination had been heavily on my mind surrounding our breath and ways to better understand consciousness. I reached out to Dr. Zappaterra to peel into his perspective and the journey he's embarked on. He is clearly intelligent and passionate about his craft, but his curiosity and humility stand out immensely.  For more information, check out Dr. Zappaterra's website here and below: Mauro Zappaterra obtained his MD and PhD degrees from Harvard Medical School. He completed his PhD doing work with neuronal stem cells and the effects of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in brain development and in the adult. He is published in numerous scientific articles on the CSF and his work was chosen as the cover image for the prestigious Neuron Journal.  He was also featured in the New England Journal of Medicine in teaching medical students about living with life threatening diseases and in Psychology Today on an article titled "Joy: The art of loving life." He completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency at the UCLA VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, where he also served as Chief Resident. He is board certified in PM&R with a particular focus on optimizing human performance and decreasing suffering.
