    Wired, Tired, and Energetically Overloaded

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro, holistic health mentor, energy guru, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today I’m going to explore some hidden energetic influences affecting your health and a possible way to better thrive in today’s challenging world. There is something lurking all around us that we cannot see… cannot smell… and often, we don’t even think about… yet we are immersed in it every single day. And that is EMFs. Those evil Electromagnetic frequencies. Don’t get me wrong, I love technology as much as the next person, and I would be lost without it. We live in a wireless world that makes things very convenient every single day. There’s no going back to life without wireless technology. But the reality is this… The human body was never designed to be surrounded by this level of constant man-made electromagnetic exposure 24 hours a day. For thousands of years, humans lived primarily within the Earth’s natural electromagnetic environment. Today, we are swimming in an ocean of artificial frequencies coming from cell towers, wireless routers, smart homes, tablets, smart watches, earbuds, televisions, and devices that stay way too close to our bodies almost constantly. And while science continues to debate just how much impact these EMFs may have on human biology, most of us don’t need a scientific report to realize that we simply don’t feel well. We’re more wired and tired. More restless. More anxious. More mentally foggy. And perhaps most commonly of all… We’re not sleeping well. I can’t tell you how many of my clients complain about waking up between 2 and 4 in the morning every single day, unable to get back into deep restorative sleep. I have always been able to relate because, after menopause, I was also one of them. I think I just resolved to the fact that “as you get older, it’s harder to sleep.” And after menopause, hormones are imbalanced. That was just a fact of life. I guess I figured that if that was my biggest problem, then I’m doing alright. I never really tried to address it or improve it. And maybe there’s another little lesson here. You know how when you focus too much on something that is wrong, and you try too hard to “fix yourself?” Well, things rarely improve if you’re focusing on the negative. I wasn’t giving my sleep disruption a single thought, and now I’m finding it almost funny that I greatly improved it, quite by accident. And how did I do that? Well, I recently acquired a new device called the Qi-Me device from a company called Waveguard. They claim to help the human body better handle EMFs. There are so many other products out there making similar claims that I just wasn’t quite sure I was buying it. The industry can get really hard to navigate because you don’t know who to trust. Luckily for me, I have the superpower to be able to test energy, and that’s exactly what I did the minute I took the product out of the package. I have to say, I was a bit skeptical based on its very simplistic design. It’s basically a block of wood with a golden metal plate on top. What caught my attention about this particular product is that it does not actually claim to block EMFs or shut down your WiFi signal. Instead, the company says the device uses what they call a patented depolarization process designed to transform concentrated man-made electromagnetic radiation into a more dispersed form that behaves more like naturally occurring environmental frequencies. Now this is interesting. It seemed to be a very different approach. In simple language, the idea is not to eliminate technology…but to help the body interact with these frequencies differently. And now that I think about it, I didn’t exactly test for bad energy. In other words, I have special pendulums that can detect toxic energy. Rather than using one of those, I instead used a pendulum that measures the strength of my own biofield. I first measured myself to get a baseline. Then I placed my hand over my laptop, which was turned on with Bluetooth and wifi both activated, and I tested my energy again. No big surprise, it tanked. Then, I kept my hand over the laptop and picked up the Qi-Me block and watched the pendulum spin increase until it was stronger than my baseline energy. Impressive! The part about the Qi-Me product that I love is that it’s passive and requires no charging, batteries, apps, or setup. You simply keep it near you — on your body, at your desk, or near your bed. What I didn’t like about it was that, although it is small, it’s not small enough to wear or carry with you everywhere. The only thing I could imagine doing with it was either putting it on my desk near my computer or leaving it on my nightstand. Since I am constantly moving around the house with my computer and I no longer consistently sit in my office, I decided to just place it on my nightstand. After that, I pretty much forgot all about it. It was after about 3 weeks that I was having a conversation with somebody about how my sleep has been amazing. I mean, I now sleep throughout most nights without waking up at all. My husband getting up doesn’t wake me up. My dog moving about the bed doesn’t wake me up. And apparently my hormones are no longer waking me up. It was shortly after this conversation when it dawned on me that I placed that little block of wood on my nightstand. Could that be making the difference? I honestly can’t tell you anything definitively. I mean, how could it be proven? All I can say is that I’m impressed with the little product. I have no idea how it works, but then again, I couldn’t really explain most of the healing tools that I use. That’s what I love the most about energy medicine. You don’t have to understand it or even believe it for it to work. I believe in the Qi-Me enough to stand behind it. I feel that the more little things we can do daily to reduce our toxic exposure, the better off we will be. Many of us buy organic foods and steer clear of toxic cleaning products, but we also can’t forget that humans are energetic beings living inside energetic environments. Everything carries frequency. Everything carries information. And our bodies are constantly responding to the invisible world around us. So whether you explore EMF reduction through grounding, limiting screen exposure, turning off devices at night, spending more time in nature, or experimenting with tools like this one… take small steps in the right direction as often as you can. If you’re interested in learning more about the Qi-Me product, there’s a link in my show notes. Thank you so much for joining me for another episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. The Smallest Habit That Could Be Affecting Your Health

I want to talk about something today that might seem really trivial at first. But for me, it turned out to be a major game-changer in my health. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I’m going to share a personal story about seemingly safe substances that we consume every single day and how they can quietly have a huge impact on our health. For most of my life, I suffered from ridiculously itchy ears. The urge to itch my ears was overwhelming, and it literally put me in danger when downhill mountain biking or driving my motorcycle. Knowing it wasn’t safe, I still just HAD to take one of my hands off the handlebars to scratch my ears. I went to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and he offered me about 5 minutes of his time and handed me a food allergy list of the things that I should avoid, while writing me a prescription for an ointment to drop into my ears. I gotta say, that ointment, whatever it was, worked like a charm. One drop and I had immediate relief. Problem solved, right? Wrong. When my insurance company decided they would no longer cover it and I found out the tiny bottle of ointment would cost me hundreds of dollars a month, I went back to suffering with itchy years. For YEARS. Most of my life, in fact. Until about four years ago, when I went to see an iridologist. This is somebody who studies the color variations of the iris of your eyeballs and links this information back to your health status. I was always curious about this modality, and during that session, I was told that spices and seasonings were one of the biggest stressors on my system. Specifically, that they were putting a burden on my kidneys and were linked to uric acid. At the time, I was also dealing with gout in one of my toes. So I already knew my body was struggling with something inflammatory. That part wasn’t a mystery. But spices? They were never on my radar. I spent years trying to figure out what foods caused the problems until I finally gave up and determined that EVERYTHING made my ears itch. So this was a very interesting discovery. I followed her advice to be very strict about what I use. Positively no onion or garlic powder (which is used in nearly everything in a restaurant), and I was also instructed to never touch anything with additional flavoring, especially potato chips. I followed this advice and threw away almost all of my spices. Just about all of my cooking is as bland and tasteless as can be, but guess what? My itchy ear problem has almost completely subsided. Now I just want to remind you that when you have a symptom, and it can be anything, it’s your body’s way of trying to tell you something. Yes, I get that itchy ears aren’t life-threatening, and I could have easily lived the rest of my life with the itchiness. But that was a sign that my kidneys were struggling, and the next symptom that showed up (the gout in my toes) was my next message. Not many people might connect itchy ears to painful toes, but for me, they were absolutely connected. And I should also mention that my fingers were also starting to get swollen, stiff, and very sore. All of this has been resolved. My toes and fingers shrank back to normal size with no more pain, and I pretty much forgot all about this story. Until last month . . . My stepdaughter came to stay with us for about a month, and she is an amazing cook. Everything she made was full of flavor, and I really enjoyed eating tasty food again. But within a few days, I noticed something. My ears started itching again. Not occasionally—almost constantly. And it hit me pretty quickly. Nothing else had changed. The only real difference was what I was eating. The seasonings were back. It was such a clear reminder that my body hadn’t forgotten. And then, almost right after she left, I came across a video on YouTube all about spices that I will share in the show notes. The timing was perfect because it reinforced everything I had already experienced firsthand. The video breaks down something that most people don’t think about. We assume spices are harmless, clean, and maybe even beneficial. But when you actually look at what’s in a lot of these blends… It’s not just herbs and spices. There are fillers. Anti-caking agents. Preservatives. Ingredients labeled as “natural flavors,” which can mean a lot of different things...usually all toxic. Sometimes, even added sugars. And it made me think about how careful so many people try to be. We buy organic foods. We avoid processed foods. We read the nutrition labels. But then we reach for something we use every single day—without ever really thinking about it. And that’s the part that struck me the most. It’s not always the big things that we have to watch out for (like going to McDonald’s or eating a ½ gallon of ice cream). It’s the small things that we do consistently and constantly. Those things that we don’t even think twice about. For me, it showed up as itchy ears. For someone else, it might show up very differently. But the point is, the body notices and tries to let you know if there’s a problem. I just want to take this opportunity to encourage you to watch that video and take a good hard look at your spice rack. Maybe even get curious enough to experiment a little. Try removing something for a period of time and see how your body responds. Then bring it back in and notice what changes. And don’t forget that I can test you, energetically speaking. I can tell if any substance is negatively affecting your energy and therefor your health. If you’re interested in that service, please just reach out. Sometimes the answers we’re looking for are hiding in the most unexpected places, and I can help you uncover them. Thanks so much for listening to this episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. Less Is Always More

We live in a world that constantly tells us we need more of everything. More products to buy, more choices to make, and more information to take in. It never seems to end, and the more we have, the more we seem to need. I am as guilty as everyone else when it comes to this, and especially as it relates to information and healing tools. At what point will I decide that I have enough? Hello and welcome to another episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I want to explore a simple but powerful concept: less is always more. And how simplifying your life can dramatically shift your health, your energy, and your peace of mind. I just happen to be in a good place to make this observation. You see, for the past 4 months I’ve been living in our new, much smaller house. We like to call this “our cabin in the woods.” We relocated from Maine for the winter, hauling a small enclosed motorcycle trailer, filled mostly with new items for the new house and a boatload of my husband’s tools. I kept the items that I brought to a minimum due to the limited space, not only in the truck and trailer, but also in the much smaller house. This means that I’m living with a small fraction of my wardrobe, a sampling of my kitchen gadgets, and, more importantly, only a couple of healing tools from my vast collection back at home. And I gotta say, this “living with less” experience has been very powerful for me. The first time this thought struck me, I was standing in front of our shared six-foot closet rather than my very own large walk-in closet that I’m accustomed to at home. I quickly realized that with fewer options, getting dressed became much easier. At first, I missed all of my usual clothing options, but I got over that pretty quickly. I noticed the same thing in the kitchen. Instead of an overstuffed pantry filled with random ingredients and spices I rarely use, now, I simply buy what I need for the week, and that’s it. Dinner decisions became easier, and there was no staring at the pantry wondering what to make. These things made me realize something… We are so accustomed to thinking that more choices are better. But have you ever sat at a restaurant reading through a 15-page menu and the server keeps coming back while you’re still trying to decide what you want? Many times, fewer options are just so much easier. Too many choices can create mental fatigue and pressure. I know... with food, choices are usually a good thing. But less is still more when it comes to quantity. Yes, food is necessary. We need it to survive, but more is never better—especially with the quality of food available today. The more we consume, the more we expose ourselves to additives, chemicals, and pesticides. So even when we think we’re doing something healthy, like eating lots of fruit and veggies, we may actually be increasing the burden on the body. Sometimes, giving the body less to process is one of the most supportive things we can do. And then there’s our environment. We’re conditioned to believe that bigger is better. Bigger homes, more space, more stuff. I learned this lesson firsthand this winter. Smaller is so much more freeing. It’s less to manage, less to clean, and less to maintain. And we can’t ignore one of the biggest sources of overload, which is media. The constant stream of fear-mongering news and social media is overwhelming. It’s all designed to trigger fear and stress, and it works like a charm. This has a direct negative impact on your nervous system and your energy. So therefore, the less you consume, the more stable, calm, and clear you can feel. And who doesn’t want to feel more calm and clear? But the biggest lesson for me this winter… was regarding my healing tools. At home, I have what I would honestly call an overwhelming number of tools. And one might ask, “If any of them really worked, why would I need so many?” And that is a fair and valid question and point, which leads to my biggest guilt when it comes to “too much.” I can’t seem to stop taking in information, education, knowledge, etc. I learn about all kinds of ways to heal the body, and I can’t stop myself from diving in and trying them. But this created the same problem of the overstuffed closet. Too darn many choices, so it’s harder to stay focused and consistent. Here in the cabin, I only brought four tools with me. A very small subset of what I have at home. And something really interesting happened. Because I had fewer options, I used them more consistently. I became more focused and more intentional. It was magical, and I developed a much deeper appreciation for each one. Space didn’t allow me to bring my big and powerful equipment. I only brought the small handheld devices that could fit into my purse. Maybe back home, when I had my full inventory, I didn’t give these tools the full credit they deserved. I want to share just a couple of instances where I used these tools over the past month that made me really appreciate just how powerful these little suckers are... Adjusting to southern cooking has been… an experience. I’ve never been to a BBQ house before, I still don’t know what grits are, and I can’t figure out if southern so-called “side dishes” are really just undercover desserts. My taste buds have certainly been enjoying all of this yumminess, but my stomach, not so much. Since I don’t typically deal with stomach discomfort, my recent tummy aches gave me the perfect opportunity to work with it. I used two different tools during these situations, the Healy and the miHealth, and both seemed to really ease the pain almost immediately. Then came something even more significant. After several days of physical labor working on the house, I developed intense muscle tightness that progressed into shooting nerve pain in my hip. While I was in the first stage of muscle lock-up, I did a quick Healy scan to find out which program I most needed. After doing hundreds of these scans, this was the first time the “Fitness” group came up as first priority. And when I looked to see which of the Fitness programs I needed most, “Muscle Harmony” was the first priority listed. Amazing! So I ran this program a couple of times, and there is no doubt it took the edge off. I can’t say the muscles completely relaxed and went back to normal, but that might also be because I never stopped working my tail off on the house. Without giving myself the recovery time I needed, I can’t expect the healing tools to work miracles. But then, due to my stubbornness with the continual physical labor, the muscles continued to lock up until finally I was in a situation of constant nerve pain radiating down through my right hip. When that nerve pain struck, I suddenly got very motivated to heal. This time, I picked up a biofeedback device called the miHealth and ran some programs specifically focused on nerve pain. I almost still can’t believe the results. Within 15 minutes, the pain went from constant… to completely gone. It’s been over a week, and I’m very happy to report that it has not returned at all. All of these experiences this winter have made me realize how hard it is to focus and appreciate our belongings when we have an overwhelming amount of distractions. With fewer choices, we can become more focused. And when our energy is focused, our results become more powerful. Maybe most of our problems are because we have too much. Too many decisions.Too many distractions.Too many options pulling our energy in different directions. And all of that… works against the body’s natural ability to heal. Maybe having less isn’t about deprivation, but instead it’s about creating the space for your body to do what it’s designed to do. And this is exactly what I’m hoping to do at my new ZenDen, an environment designed to experience different healing tools in a simple, guided, intentional way. I want to save you from the information overload and the collecting of too many unnecessary healing tools. Let me help you find what works for YOU. Because the truth is, there isn’t one single tool that is best for everyone. The key is finding the one that resonates with you. Pun intended. And when you do find your tool, and you stay consistent with it…that’s where real transformation begins. So I’ll leave you with this: Where in your life can you begin to remove instead of add? Because sometimes…less truly is more. What’s Really Controlling Your Health?

I spent most of my life chasing symptoms and trying to fix them. I’m sure you are, or were, in the same boat. I think most of the population is in a constant state of whack-a-mole when it comes to their health. And you know what, it never ends if you only focus on the symptoms. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I want to try to explain why chasing symptoms is never going to work and what is really controlling your health. The biggest ah-ha moment and breakthrough you can have when it comes to your health is to stop looking at the body as a bunch of separate parts. The most terrifying thought is that this is exactly how doctors are trained, but we need to rise above this false concept. We have all been conditioned into this way of thinking. You have a heart issue, you go to a heart doctor. You have hormone problems, you go see an endocrinologist. You have kidney issues, you see a nephrologist. And if you have pain somewhere, you focus right where the pain is. After decades of doing these things, where are we? Are we all living in perfect health? I’m betting not. So maybe this system is not the best idea. And speaking of system, that is exactly what your body is - a system where everything is connected and works in harmony… not a set of isolated pieces. All of our cells are constantly communicating and constantly adjusting, trying to keep our bodies in balance. This is known as homeostasis. * If your temperature goes up, you sweat. * If your blood sugar drops, your body releases stored energy. * If you need more oxygen, your breathing changes. Every second of the day.Your heart is beating.Your lungs are working.Your brain is processing.Your body is repairing, regulating, and adapting. And you’re not thinking about any of it. It just happens all the time, automatically. So naturally, the question becomes- What actually is controlling all of this? Well, underneath everything is a very important feedback system of communication where information is sent around the body, to and from the brain, to all the cells. Your body is always sensing what’s going on, interpreting that information, and then responding accordingly. Which brings up another good question? What is coordinating all of this? What’s keeping everything running smoothly? The body has to be able to send and receive information clearly in order for it to function properly. We’ve been taught that this happens through the nervous system and through hormones. And that’s true. But that’s not the whole story. There’s another very important layer to this. A more subtle level of communication. This is what I refer to as the biofield. Now, you don’t have to get too caught up in the terminology, just think of it like this: The body isn’t just chemical. It’s informational. There are patterns, signals, and communication happening beyond what we can physically see. It’s that information that coordinates everything and is the most important driving force for your health. Ironically, it’s the invisible stuff that makes all the difference! But unfortunately, it’s still very much “invisible” to Western medicine. When that communication is clear, and the proper information flows effortlessly through the system, the body does a pretty great job of taking care of itself. But when static in the lines causes that communication to start to break down, that’s when things go bad. There are so many reasons this can happen. Stress and toxins are big factors, but unprocessed emotions are probably the biggest culprit in the breakdown of internal communication. And when that communication breakdown happens, the body starts to go into adaptation. It does what it needs to do to keep the heart beating, the lungs pumping, and all the other things that happen automatically. But many things start to shift and suffer. This is where chronic problems are born. This is when you start to get the general sense that something isn’t quite right, but you can’t really pinpoint it. Your body hasn’t given up. It’s still trying to correct itself during all of this. It just doesn’t have the clarity it needs to do the job well. The good news is that the body is incredibly resilient. When you give it the right conditions, it knows how to come back into balance. And that’s the focus of my work - giving the body the right conditions to heal. Instead of focusing on symptoms, I look at this invisible communication system to see how information is flowing and what may be stopping the flow. It’s so important to know where the static is and where the body is calling for the most attention. Many people may struggle with the same types of chronic problems, but everybody has a different hidden underlying reason for these issues. Once we identify the areas where information is not flowing properly, we can help support the system using frequencies. Not just generic frequencies, but the ones that your body is actually calling for. It knows best what it needs and when it needs it. When we work with the body at the level it actually operates on - energy and information, the communication improves, and everything else starts to shift in the right direction. If you’re curious about the work I do and want to learn more about frequencies as medicine, please visit www.quantum-dr.com or follow the link in the show notes. Are You Feeling Stuck?

Have you been feeling stuck lately? Maybe you’ve been feeling frustrated… unmotivated… or like you’re just spinning your wheels in life. If so, you’re not alone. Many people experience this exact feeling right around this time of year. And it’s not a coincidence. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I’m going to share a little bit about how the season of spring represents what’s known in Chinese Medicine as the Wood element. And the Wood element is all about growth… movement… expansion… and creating new possibilities. Let’s just think about what’s happening outside right now. And I guess I should mention that I’m currently located in NC rather than Maine, so my outside is much more “springy” than I’m used to back up in Maine at this time of year. Here, things are springing to life. The seeds that have been dormant all winter are suddenly pushing up through the soil. Trees that looked lifeless just a couple of weeks ago are beginning to form new buds. Everything in nature is waking up and moving forward. I’m just thrilled to go for walks every day and notice all the amazing changes. And here’s the most amazing thing … our bodies follow these same natural rhythms. After the slower, more inward energy of winter, spring activates a very different type of energy within us. It’s an energy that wants to move. It wants to grow. And, it wants to create something new. In Chinese medicine, the organs most closely connected with this springtime energy are the liver and the gallbladder. Now, when people hear “liver,” they usually think about detoxification. And yes, the liver does play a very important role in detoxification. But in Chinese medicine, the liver has another equally important job. It helps keep the body’s energy moving smoothly. When liver energy is flowing well, we tend to feel motivated, creative, and clear about where we’re going in life. But when that energy becomes stagnant, we can feel the opposite. We might feel irritable… frustrated… overwhelmed… or simply stuck. The gallbladder, which works closely with the liver, is associated with decision-making and courage. So when these two systems are out of balance, it’s not uncommon for people to feel like they can’t move forward with the changes they know they need to make. And all of this can really come to a head during the springtime, making this time of year a bit more uncomfortable for some folks. The energy of this season is trying to push us forward… but something inside of us may still be holding on to the past. I think we all know what this feels like. I sure do, and it’s something that I’ve been working on for years. But I saw this year as a huge opportunity to finally change things due to Chinese astrology, and this year is known as the Fire Horse. The Fire Horse is known for its strong drive toward independence and progress. It doesn’t like to be stuck, and the energy of this year will naturally move things along at a much quicker pace. Fire Horse years have traditionally been associated with bold changes… breaking free from old limitations… and stepping into a new direction in life. If there was ever a year to let go of the things that are holding you back and fully embrace the life you want, IT’S THIS YEAR! So when we combine the seasonal energy of spring’s Wood element, which encourages growth and expansion, with the energetic symbolism of the Fire Horse, which encourages action and forward movement… we end up with a very powerful opportunity. Then, when you add the energy of the lunar eclipse that happened on March 3rd, it may well have been one of the most supportive times to finally initiate some positive changes. I personally took this very seriously and spent most of that night meditating while listening to frequencies, setting intentions, and really trying to let go of the things that I know are not serving me. That very night, I made the decision to sign a lease on an office space back home in Rockland, Maine, and open up a physical location starting this May. I signed the lease on March 3rd, the very day of the huge energetic shift of the lunar eclipse. It was such an exciting experience for me. I felt like I really put something into motion to help me ride the energy of this Fire Horse to the big changes that I desire. Why not take advantage of the Universal Energy and have it work to our advantage? Now, please don’t fret and feel like you’ve missed your big opportunity because the lunar eclipse has already passed. We are still very much in the season of spring, and the Wood Element, and the energy of the Fire Horse continues all year. There are many simple things we can do to support our bodies during this seasonal reset. One of the most important things is simply movement. Remember, the Wood element is all about flow. So gentle physical activity like walking, stretching, or spending time outdoors can help restore that natural movement in the body. Qi Gong is certainly a great way to get energy moving, and it’s my personal favorite. Nutrition can also play a role. Spring is a time to incorporate lighter foods and fresh greens, and also the best time to practice some gentle detoxing protocols. I always marvel at the fact that Mother Nature gives us a bounty of dandelions every spring because that is exactly what our liver craves during this time of the year. Dandelions are known for their detoxifying qualities, and they help to support the liver and clear out some of the heaviness that can accumulate during winter. Another powerful step is emotional awareness. If you have stagnant Liver or Gallbladder energy, you may notice yourself feeling more irritable during the springtime. Simply acknowledging those emotions and giving them healthy outlets—whether through journaling, conversation, or creative expression—can make a significant difference. And of course, one of my favorite tools for helping the body shift out of these stuck patterns is sound. Sound offers a unique ability to influence the nervous system gently and naturally. When we experience certain frequencies and rhythmic patterns, the body can begin to relax and let go. And when the nervous system relaxes, the body often becomes much more capable of releasing stored tension and restoring healthy energetic flow. This is why I love my sound healing program. It’s designed to give the body what it needs, exactly when it needs it, throughout the changing seasons. This can help with the natural reset process. So if you’ve been feeling stuck lately… take a moment to consider that your body might simply be responding to the natural energy of the season. The Unnecessary Weight We Carry

Every year while I’m in Mexico, I make it a point to explore something new in the world of healing. Not because I’m searching for the next best thing, but because I can’t resist trying new things. Welcome to Quantum Waves of Wellness. I’m your host, Dr. Paula Apro—Doctor of Natural Medicine, holistic health mentor, and your guide to unlocking the healing power within. Today, I want to tell you about my recent experience participating in a Family Constellation group healing event in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Now, I’ll be honest—I didn’t really know what Family Constellation work was when I signed up. I had a general idea, but certainly didn’t know what to expect. And that actually really worked in my favor. I attended with no intention of doing any healing work for myself. My only goal was to observe… and to feel whatever I was going to feel. What made the experience even more interesting was that most of the event was conducted in Spanish, which, sadly, and embarrassingly, I still can’t speak. But that turned out to be a gift because without understanding the words, I couldn’t get all up in my head like I normally do. I had no choice but to drop into my body and simply feel. Something that is much harder than it seems and something that we all need to try to do more of. For those unfamiliar, Family Constellation work involves participants stepping in to represent members of another person’s family system. Through these role-playing scenarios, which are guided but largely intuitive, deep emotional patterns begin to reveal themselves. The people seeking healing experienced profound emotional releases as unresolved family dynamics came to the surface. I was there solely as a representative for other participants’ family members, which meant I needed to describe what I was “feeling” in every situation so that the guide could interpret this for the participant seeking the healing. Nothing like being totally put on the spot. At first, I was terrified, with an overwhelming need to perform and be perfect. Just like in my job, I felt the pressure of needing to come through. I felt like the person’s healing journey was resting on my shoulders. This was not at all what I hoped for on a blissful afternoon in “my happy place.” So, I started to think back to my last session with the Architect AI (which I detailed in a previous episode), and it really helped me. I remembered it telling me that I needed to cut myself some slack and not always pressure myself. I just took deep breaths, closed my eyes, and tuned inward. And I’ll be damed. It worked. I did feel feelings, which were supposedly the emotions of these various strangers’ family members. And I was able to express them and help these participants resolve various issues. This really taught me a lesson in trusting myself. I often get “intuitive hits” when working with clients, and I always hold back in sharing them because I feel as though I’m not one of those truly gifted intuitives and I have no right pretending that I am. It all comes down to self-trust and self-confidence. It’s like when I was back in my old job, flying around the country carrying camera equipment that weighed more than I did. I was being sent to take photos and video footage, and I was being paid to do it. Yet, when people in airports asked me if I was a professional photographer, I would say no. I literally had to go to the New York Institute of Photography to gain a certificate before I could call myself a professional, despite already being paid to shoot photos. Go figure. So here I was again, with the ability to “just know things” but feeling like an imposter. Being a part of this group healing session was a great way for me to release some of this pressure because, after all, these people weren’t looking to me as “the healer.” They weren’t paying me for my services, and I think that made all the difference. Comparing again to photography, when I was being paid to shoot, the pressure took all the fun out of it. But when I took photos just for me, with no pressure to please or to measure up, my creative juices flowed, and my heart sang. Maybe this is why I enjoy creating these podcasts. There is no goal, and I’m not being paid. I’m simply doing something that I enjoy. And you know what? We all need more of that in our lives. Now, let me get back to this family constellation experience because I want to share the most important part of it. Witnessing this healing event really reinforced just how much emotional baggage people carry—often for decades—and how intensely that unprocessed grief, anger, guilt, and pain can live in the body. Even without understanding most of the words being spoken, the pain was unmistakable. And it made me realize that just because we don’t talk about our wounds… doesn’t mean they aren’t there, tearing us apart from the inside. One of the role-playing scenarios from that day is still on my mind. There was this young woman, in her early 30s, who was completely overcome with grief. She was seeking healing because she carried deep sorrow and guilt over not giving her grandmother a better life before she passed away. And you ready for this? Her grandmother had died over ten years earlier—when this woman was only 21 years old! I just floored me. I couldn’t help but ask myself—How many Americans in their mid-30s do you know who carry a decade of grief because they didn’t financially or emotionally provide for a grandparent? What young American even thinks that responsibility rests on their shoulders? It was such a striking cultural difference. And honestly, such a beautiful one. A deep sense of loyalty, responsibility, and love—but also a tremendous burden for such young people to bear. Watching how much grief this woman still carried after all these years made me realize how… Time does not heal emotional wounds like we’ve all been told. Avoidance doesn’t heal them either. They simply go underground where they quietly shape our health, our relationships, and our sense of self. As the day unfolded, participant after participant moved through intense emotional releases. And I’ll be honest, it was uncomfortable to watch. At one point, I caught myself thinking, “There has to be an easier way to do this.” Which of course led me to the thought that, “There is! And I do it!” One of the things I value most about my own approach to emotional and energetic healing is that my clients don’t have to relive their trauma. They don’t have to go back into the story. They don’t have to emotionally re-enter the pain in order to release it. That doesn’t mean one approach is better than another. I truly believe different modalities resonate with different people. And I would love, someday, to experience Family Constellation work from the inside so I could better compare the two processes. But I will say this—with complete honesty—my way is gentler. And for many nervous systems, that matters. One of my personal favorite tools that I use to support emotional healing is The Emotion Code®, a system developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson. This work allows us to identify and release trapped emotional energy that may be contributing to physical discomfort, emotional patterns, or a persistent sense of feeling stuck. The body already knows what it’s holding on to; we simply ask the right questions and allow it to let go—gently, efficiently, and without rehashing the story. For those who resonate with the idea of emotional release but prefer a calmer, nervous-system-friendly approach, this can be a powerful and deeply supportive option. If you are interested in learning more about this, I’ll drop a link in the show notes. I think this experience was a little bittersweet for me. On one hand, it made me grateful that I don’t carry a lot of repressed emotional energy of my own. I do my inner work. I tend to process things as they arise, which makes me feel like a superhero. But at the same time, the truth is that I have very few family members, and nobody really close to me. Yes, this has insulated me from having to navigate constant family drama. But the absence of all that is also a reminder of how alone I sometimes feel—lacking a close family system. And maybe that’s part of the lesson too. Every family dynamic—or lack of one—shapes us. There is no “easy” path. There is only awareness, choice, and the willingness to tend to what lives beneath the surface. Thank you for listening to this episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness.
