Unlocking Illiquid Assets: From Digital Art to Real Estate with Conor Moore of MetaStreet

Welcome to Landline by Fabrica!  In our inaugural episode, host Federico Pomi engages in an insightful conversation with Conor Moore, co-founder of MetaStreet, exploring the dynamic intersection of digital and real-world assets. This episode delves into how traditionally illiquid assets—such as art, collectibles, land, and luxury goods—are becoming more accessible through on-chain tokenization. Conor shares MetaStreet’s journey from offering NFT-backed loans for digital collectibles to expanding into real-world assets like real estate, highlighting the seamless integration of decentralized finance (DeFi) with tangible property ownership.   Federico and Conor discuss how both MetaStreet and Fabrica are committed to simplifying the borrowing and lending processes for everyday users by enhancing infrastructure and user experience, thereby reducing friction in asset tokenization. They explore the significant value that tokenization brings, including the ability to offer “push-button” lending with instant settlement, refinancing options, and flexible term structures that surpass traditional banking services.   The conversation also addresses the classic marketplace challenges of educating and recruiting both lenders and borrowers. While lenders accustomed to liquid digital NFTs find real-world assets like land and watches to be new and intriguing, these physical assets often present lower risk due to their established value and substantial market size. Additionally, Federico and Conor emphasize the critical role of regulatory clarity and user education in fostering trust and encouraging mainstream adoption.   Looking ahead, MetaStreet plans to diversify its collateral offerings by integrating various real-world assets such as GPUs, domain names, and solar farms, while also developing secondary markets for on-chain debt. Meanwhile, Fabrica continues to refine its instant land tokenization processes, enabling property owners to rapidly unlock value through on-chain lending. This episode offers a comprehensive overview of how innovative financial technologies are transforming the way we own, trade, and borrow against real-world property, setting the stage for a future where digital and tangible assets coexist seamlessly.   Full transcript of the conversation.
