Season Two Is Here! Where I Went, Why I Came Back, and the Community Young Caregivers Have Been Asking For

You're in your 20S, 30s, OR 40s, caring for a parent with a terminal diagnosis, and every support group you can find is full of people in their 70s talking about retirement plans. You are NOT alone, and you are NOT doing it wrong. Season Two of the Dancing With Dementia™ & Caregivers Rising™ Podcast is here ~ and so is the community young caregivers have been asking for. Hey beautiful souls. I'm Kama Newbry, RN, NC-BC ~ a nationally Board Certified Nurse Coach, healthcare educator, and fierce caregiver advocate. I'm also a daughter, ten-ish years into caring for my mom, who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at 58. I was in my early 30s. My siblings were still in their 20s. We were quiet for six months. In this solo episode, I tell you exactly where I went. I tell you the honest reason for the pause. Not a content-calendar reason. The turnover in my mom's care home. What it costs me to walk into a place that breaks my heart. And the part most people won't say out loud: "There would not have been a giant pause between season one and season two had finances not been part of the picture." I tell you what it actually costs to work in elder care. Wages below what a fast food window starts at. No PTO. No vacation time. Retaliation when staff call out sick. I've witnessed it. It's like the Wild West, man. I tell you why I almost stopped ~ and what happened in the middle of a total, complete sob fest that made the answer obvious. I tell you about the support group that didn't fit. In-person, down the street, people in their 70s and 80s with retirement plans and paid-off homes and grown families. Beautiful humans. Completely different chapter of life. And then a COVID loophole opened a young adult caregiver group in New York City to me virtually through the Alzheimer's Association, and THAT was the game changer. That was the saving grace. I tell you about the camp out I didn't plan. Friends who showed up, told me to pack a bag, and gave me 48 hours under the stars with kindred spirits. I went in looking for flow. I came back knowing the Caregivers Rising™ Community Circle couldn't wait until next year! WHO THIS EPISODE IS FOR: If you've ever searched for a caregiver support group with ANYONE your age in it and come up empty ~ this is for you. If you're an adult child caring for a parent with ANY diagnosis while you're still building your own adult life ~ this is for you. If you're neurodiverse, or you think outside the box, or your belief system doesn't match the room, or your situation just doesn't fit what the system was built to hold ~ you're what we call an ATYPICAL caregiver, and this is absolutely for you. If you're long-distance, or part-time, or your person is in a care home and you carry it anyway ~ this is for you. If you're a nurse, a teacher, or a frontline care worker holding up a wounded system ~ this is for you too. And if you LOVE a caregiver and you want to show up better for them ~ come on in. WHAT'S INSIDE THE CAREGIVERS RISING™ COMMUNITY CIRCLE: A monthly dance party you can join from anywhere, with phenomenal DJs. Soul Circle Seshes, where you meet other young, young at heart, and atypical caregivers and build your own caregiver vibe tribe. Monthly live Q&As with me and guest experts. And a monthly Grow Your Glow tool you can use in UNDER FIVE MINUTES, right in the middle of caregiving. Evidence-based woo, all of it. Doors open in under two weeks, and they close shortly after, ON PURPOSE, so we can truly curate it and love up on every single one of you inside! ✦ JOIN THE PRIORITY LIST → synergyrising.life/caregivers RESOURCES MENTIONED: Alzheimer's Association ~ alz.org · 24/7 Helpline 1.800.272.3900.
