#11-My Mom Almost Died

A year ago, my family started a journey that would eventually lead to my mom receiving a heart transplant. Looking back, I've realized that while I was focused on helping her get through it, I never really stopped to process what the experience was doing to me. In this episode, I share what it's been like becoming a caregiver, watching a parent face a life-threatening health crisis, and navigating one of the most challenging seasons of adulthood. I talk about the emotional toll of caregiving, the hidden costs nobody discusses, why having control of my time became more valuable than money, and what it looks like to keep building your own life while helping someone else fight for theirs. The reality is, a lot of us are at that age now. Our parents are getting older. Their health is changing. And many of us are stepping into responsibilities nobody really prepares us for. #10-How Cleveland Is Fighting to Save Its Young Black Men

Cleveland's young Black men are facing challenges that can't be solved with arrests, headlines, or social media debates alone. In this episode of Cleveland With Cuz, I sit down with King Kareem of The Safety Unit to have an honest conversation about what's happening to Black boys and young men in our city, and more importantly, what can be done about it. We discuss the root causes of violence, the influence of social media on today's youth, the lack of positive guidance and mentorship in many neighborhoods, and why so many young Black men feel disconnected from civic engagement and the political process. We also talk about the role Black men must play in helping raise, guide, and support the next generation. King Kareem shares insights from his work with The Safety Unit, an organization focused on violence prevention, intervention, mentorship, and helping young people navigate challenges before they become tragedies.
