    Gyo - Ep. 48

Ready, set, "Gyo"! It is spooky season again and so, as is becoming an annual tradition, we are going back to horror master Junji Ito for the "death stench that creeps". What if fish had legs? But not just any legs: robot legs powered by their own flatulence? This manga is not for the faint of heart, or sensitive of smell. For the first half of the show it is a bookclub discussion of our Long Comic, and in the second half of the show we are talking about other horror movie favourites, as well as Canadian cinema. Of course we end the show by introducing the graphic novel that will be the next long comic we will talk about in two weeks time! -------------------------------- 6:00 Gyo bookclub discussion 39:49 Horror films and Canadian cinema 50:21 Introducing the next read: V for Vendetta -------------------------------- Explore our LinkTree for a list of all our socials. Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters - Ep. 47

We've hit a bullseye with this episode as we talk about the modern day Robin Hood "Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters." This gritty 1987 reboot by Mike Grell is considered a turning point for the vigilante as he becomes more of an urban hunter facing social issues of the time. Politically charged and beautifully drawn, forty years later does it still hit the mark? For the first half of the show it is a bookclub discussion of our Long Comic, and in the second half of the show we are doing a blind rank of famous fictional archers to find out who ends up on top. Of course we end the show by introducing the manga that will be the next long comic we will talk about in two weeks time! -------------------------------- 6:28 Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters bookclub discussion 45:50 Blind ranking fictional archers 55:45 Introducing the next read: Gyo -------------------------------- Explore our LinkTree for a list of all our socials. Qualia the Purple - Ep. 46

What happens when you combine Yuri (Girl Love) with quantum physics? Today we are talking about "Qualia the Purple" a sci-fi manga that ask the age old question 'what happens if your left hand was also a cellphone'? Pitched as the weirdest thing Spence has ever read, you know we are in for a journey. For the first half of the show it is a bookclub discussion of our Long Comic, and in the second half of the show we are talking about other Sci-Fi recommendations. Of course we end the show by introducing the graphic novel that will be the next long comic we will talk about in two weeks time! -------------------------------- 6:20 Qualia the Purple bookclub discussion 49:45 Sci-Fi Recommendations 1:00:20 Introducing the next read: Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters -------------------------------- Explore our LinkTree for a list of all our socials. Absolute Martian Manhunter - Ep. 45

The first series of the popular "Absolute" DC Universe has concluded, and so now is the perfect time to talk about it! "Absolute Martian Manhunter" is a reimagining of the green gumshoe from top to bottom. This shapeshifting, mind reading, super powered superhero is reimagined as a cerebral entity inside the mind of trouble FBI agent John Jones. But all of that doesn't matter when the art (by Javier Rodriguez) is some of the craziest I've ever seen, not just with comics. For the first half of the show it is a bookclub discussion of our Long Comic, and in the second half of the show we are going to give the Martian Manhunter his well overdue time in the limelight by writing a 15 beat plot summary in 15 minutes of a movie that doesn't exist yet. Impossible? You'll have to listen to find out! Of course we end the show by introducing the manga that will be the next long comic we will talk about in two weeks time! -------------------------------- 4:52 Absolute Martian Manhunter bookclub discussion 38:49 Explaining the Blake Snyder Beat Sheet 44:01 Writing the Martian Manhunter movie in less than 15 minutes (57:06 finish) 58:40 Introducing the next read: Qualia the Purple -------------------------------- Explore our LinkTree for a list of all our socials. Dragon Ball (Vol. 4 + 5 + 6) - Ep. 44

Dragon Ball is one of the most iconic titles in Manga and Anime, so what better series to come back to as part of our bookclub? After reading the first three volumes (Episode 14) we talked about maybe coming back to the series in the future and here we are! At this point in Dragon Ball we are jumping into the media defining tournament arc of the Tenkaichi Budōkai, and it's quite the spectacle to discuss. For the first half of the show it is a bookclub discussion of our Long Comic, and in the second half of the show Spence does a blind rank of our childhood anime as we take a trip down memory lane and reflect on the shows that defined us. Of course we end the show by introducing the graphic novel that will be the next long comic we will talk about in two weeks time! -------------------------------- 5:16 Dragon Ball (Vol. 4 + 5 + 6) bookclub discussion 39:50 Anime nostalgia blindrank 1:01:53 Introducing the next read: Absolute Martian Manhunter -------------------------------- Explore our LinkTree for a list of all our socials.
